    This seems to me more of a GPR than SPR. This is basically what I’m building my 13.9 adm uic to. I currently have mi e with a Steiner px4i and it’s very good 400 and in as long as I do my part of course. Trying to now raise that dough for a 2-10 but also thinking of a 1-8 just because having that 1x is super nice and fast. Idk. Still can’t decide haha, it’s a very nice set up my guy. I’m sure it’s very fun and proficient. Thanks for taking the time to show it to us mortals. God bless.

    I got a Daniel Defense MK12 a few weeks ago. It came with a SSA trigger, like that trigger so much, I ordered 2 for other AR's. I changed the stock to a Magpul PRS Lite, perfect for that rifle, gave me the adjustability without adding a lot of weight.

      I can assure you the difference between 13.9 and 18" is negligible. When talking about moving through dense vegetation. Now, if starting from scratch, sure. I won't argue with the effectiveness of 13.9. But I would not build a 13.9 SPR if I already have an 18" SPR. (I've run an 18" gun for everything for 6 years)

      @joquin4618 Před rokem +2

      @@grizzle31 yeah… I love my 18” criterion barrel rig suppressed … it makes those 600-700 yards shots much more pleasant… I seem to get more velocity compared to my other 16” and 14.5” ARs since the criterion barrel is handlapped (don’t know if that theory is true, but I get better performance from most match ammo out to distance in comparison to my other rigs) Usually, my “general purpose rifle”usage is satisfied with my 16” and 14.5” set ups ☺️🫡

    Hi Chad, @10:42 I'd recommend the SSA-E or the SSP Flat Bow over the SSA. The SSA-E is what I have in my SPR, and it is my favorite trigger on the market. Wild I’ve had neutral/negative experiences with a couple of your parts. Had 2 Criterion 12.5” barrels that both shot 2-3 MOA with typical match type rounds 69/75/77gr that a couple of my other barrels shoot .5-1.5 MOA. Leupold Mark 5 3.6-18x, glass was “milky”/hazy which led to a somewhat blurry image. My 2 Vortex PST Gen II 3-15x were noticeably clearer, crisper, brighter, more contrast, etc. Vltor A5 I generally like just for the longer cycle operation and I’m sure it helps with stress on parts simply bc of its design, but some guns I notice a little bit of a difference, others I didn’t notice any difference at all, and others actually seemed like a sharper recoil impulse. Just my experience over the last several years of being curious and spending money to try different things. Nice build though!

    • @flatlinefiberco
      @flatlinefiberco  Před rokem

      Thanks for the comment man. That is very interesting about the barrels. First I have heard of them not being superb. Did you have the gun on a tripod or supported really well? Not questioning your ability, just curious. I have the Mark 5 3.5-18 as well. Mine is super crisp and clear just like the 2-10. Did you reach out to their customer service? Did you play with the diopter? I had a Vortex 1-10 as well. It was a super nice and crisp optic as well. I just wanted to try something different and the parallax adjustment was important to me. As for the A5 buffer systems. I have them on 4 different rifles and it improved their performance dramatically. Small sample size. Like with all of these things, there is alot of variables at play.

Fact is Long Range with the US Service Rifle is ALL about the shooter’s comprehension of the principles, elements, and factors important to good shooting. Long Range Service Rifle Competition proves this, where all shooters bring rifles to the firing line as similar as peas in a pod, yet, while a few highly trained shooters will produce good scores all other shooters will shoot poorly, not having had developed the sort of extraordinary marksmanship knowledge and skills needed behind an AR at Long Range. At any rate, while your rifle may fit a notion of what’s needed for good shooting at Long Range the reality for you will not be best because you appear to not yet have received proper training. Why not an 16, 18, or 20? I get you can have a very accurate 12.5 or other shorter types but if you want to make it a long range set up why not just get a longer barrel and get more velocity l? I guess if you decide in a few months that long range isn’t the hotness then you have a shorter compact gun for cqb, patrolling, or whatever the new Instagram hotness is.

    • @flatlinefiberco
      @flatlinefiberco  Před 11 měsíci

      The short answer is... Because I can. The rifle was intended to be my go to gas gun that has more capability at long range vs my 12.5" rifle. The mile bolt gun will be built eventually, but starting this way gives me a challenge. If I can understand how to shoot far with a 5.56. Then gradually step up to larger calibers. I believe it will give me an advantage for understanding wind. Just my thoughts.... it doesn't make it right for everyone. Stay tuned man! We have more content coming. Thanks for the comment.

    You built a "long range" SPR AR15 with a 13.7" barrel? What do you consider long range? Have you shot long range or researched what shooting out past 300 yards or so ( less than that with your barrel) is like with a 5.56? Nice scope though. I absolutely agree with that on the SPR setup. But long range shooting with the 5.56 requires all of the velocity you can get. The wind blows this round all over the place and the slower it goes the worse it gets. The 13.7 is not an acceptable barrel for shooting long range. That is the most important part of your build. You need a decent barrel to do anything at distance, and you've selected one of the worst options for this platform. Generally, you'd want to be in the 20" range. Some go with 18 because it seems like a more practical length and doesn't lose quite as much as say from 16 to 20. I believe that is what the military uses on their DMR style rifles. But less than 16 isn't even talked about for long range. Look at the difference in velocity you would get from a 14" vs. a 20" barrel and plug the numbers into shooterscalculator. Look at the difference in drop and maybe more importantly wind drift even at 5-600 yards. When you build a rifle for a speciffic purpose, you need to focus on that purpose and build it with that end goal in mind. Especially when considering the most important aspect of the rifle: the barrel. I really hope your video doesn't influence anyone else to waste their money on something like this. This is why we need to bring back the dislike button.

      I have shot rifle the way it was in this video out to 1,100 meters, so yes I know what long range shooting is. When this rifle was initially built, it was not for this purpose. Instead of dropping more money I wanted to train with what I have. My long range journey actually started shooting a 12.5" 5.56 out to 800 meters. This rifle has changed a bit since this video and I have collected some good data with everyone comparing a few barrels. Keep in mind alot more goes into it than just the barrel length itself. Saying one barrel length isn't acceptable is just plain wrong. It depends on what the shooter's goals are. Everyone's is different and alot of training can be done with an even shorter barrel. Keep an eye out for the next video. I decided to do some leg work to find the answers myself. At the end of the day the most important thing is we get out and train and learn for ourselves. Thanks for the view and comment.

      You indicate that you built this rifle as a long range SPR rifle. Yes, you are absolutely wrong to build it with a short barrel. No one who wants a long range rifle, that understands the ballistics and the effects of velocity reduction and barrel length would choose a short barrel for this purpose. Everything you just said I 100% agree with. The story about wanting to train with what you have and the importance about learning and experimenting, etc. You are entirely right. My problem is that the video describes a build with the purpose of long range shooting. That is not a barrel length that should be chosen for this cartridge with the intent of long range shooting. And anyone who has experience with long range shooting would agree. And no, just because you have shot that to 1, 100 meters does not mean you understand long range shooting and doesn't mean that you are getting acceptable results at that distance. You know you're not and so do I. At that distance, even the longer barrels put a 5.56 cartridge all over the map in any realistic environment. A 20" barrel would still have the bullet dropping about 54 FEET at that distance. To give you a bit of perspective on how the bullet is dropping at that distance, at 1075 its dropping about 6 feet less. There is 6 feet of drop in 25 meters at that distance. And there is 22 feet of wind drift in a 10 mph cross wind. And you want me to believe that you and your little plinker barrel are capable at that distance? Give me a break, man. You're being extremely misleading. Oh and by the way, the 5.56 cartridge has less energy than a 22lr at that distance. If you are serious about long range shooting, do your research and put the time in and stop pretending like you have any idea about what you are talking about and stop denying the fact that your build completely missed the mark. @@flatlinefiberco

    The right AR for Long-Range begins pretty much with a match grade 20 inch barrel, free float rail, and Geissele two stage hi-speed trigger, kind of like the SDMRs built by the USAMU. This configuration is authorized for NRA and CMP governed Competitions. Note however that getting good results with such a rifle at long range (1000 yards) demands a lot of marksmanship knowledge and skill. This can be developed from good basic marksmanship training like that delivered in Small Arms Firing School by the United States Army Marksmanship Unit. It’s a 3 day annual event usually presented the last weekend in July at Camp Perry, Ohio. At any rate, shooters attending this event will learn everything important to good shooting and upon training completion shooters will receive certification to enter any CMP/NRA competitions, where they can both test and celebrate their marksmanship development. Now, interestingly enough , beyond a match conditioned rifle, THE most important thing about long range shooting with an AR is an understanding for the effects of wind, since the MOA wind constant from a VLD bullet fired from a 20 inch barrel to 1000 yards is only about 10, meaning just a full value 10 mph wind will deflect the bullet off course about 100 inches. That’s a big deal and it’s what precludes ALL untrained shooters from any long range success with the AR. BTW, for me the greatest challenge to getting good scores with an AR in Service Rifle Division of Long-Range is changing wind velocity in the one to three mph arena as these changing winds are often unobservable but will move the bullet anywhere from 10 to 30 inches off course, meaning an X-Ring hold might end up yielding a hit somewhere out in the 5-Ring. Bottom-line for the author of this video, get back to share your experience on this topic after actually having some experience with it. I think your perspective might be more on marksmanship principles and less on what equipment you are bringing to the firing line. On top of that SAFS at Camp Perry is fired at 200 yards and isn’t something I’d send someone specifically looking for practical long range shooting knowledge. We aren’t using jackets and leather slings outside of the square range so training with modern technology while still incorporating not moving the rifle while firing it is key to todays and future success.

    5.56 is a high velocity round. It gets is power from its high speed.
    Shooting a light bullet long range >450 meters from a short barrel is foolish because it causes the round to deflect too much in the wind and the bullet loses too much hitting power at those distances. You’ll miss too many initial shots and won’t kill what you you finally hit. This is not practical, unless you consider long range to be 300 meters at which point you could save all that gear and learn to use iron sights. This is a silly internet COD build (again)
