AMEN TO THAT! Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islander aren’t Americans? We the NHPI community need to be identified as a separate ethnic group. We are not Asians! We are Native Hawaiian(Polynesian), Samoan American(Polynesian) Chamorro(Micronesian) and the Fed. States of Micronesia ARE THE U.S. as the 50th state and territories. We deserve and are entitled to being recognized and identified as such since we are the indigenous people of the U.S. OFF the Mainland U.S. are like the Native Americans in the Pacific Islands. Our country has a loooonnnngggg way to go and no disrespect to the Asian Americans, but I cringe and I am so disgusted every-time I hear or see anything about Asian American - Pacific Islander oops I forgot they just added Native Hawaiian & other Pacific Islander. This is a slap in the face to NHPI people and a reminder of colonialism that still exist. Our community is small in number and for convenience they just grouped us with the Asian Americans? Our stats for federal programs, grants and many many other things are being overlooked and swept under the rug because of this! Oh and Native Hawaiians and the Pacific Islander Americans aren’t experiencing the HATE CRIMES that the Asian Americans are facing so why TF are we even grouped with them? We have our own issues and being labeled Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander 2nd or Secondary to the Asian American community when we are indigenous Americans ourself with the exception of Samoans from Independent Samoa not American Samoa and all other Pacific Islander Americans. Shouldn’t it be the other way around, such as Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander American and Asian American? I don’t think so, because the Asians would have a fit being second in the identity. The US government need to separate the NHPI community from the Asian American community! #decolonization
Wel im very sorry to say this but... people like irak and india may fall under the asian continent. But if you look at their appearences it is clear they have more ancestry and genes from caucasian side. Now when you look at pacific islanders and native americans like hawaiians eskimos indians and amazon people. They do have asian traits. Thats because they are decendants from what we today call asian people or the Mongoloid race. Same skull and features because of the ice age siberia and alaska was connected by ice. This is how those people traveled and spread across the americas. After the ice age they were stuck there. A lot of people don't knie about this but if you have a pair of eyes seeing that alaskan eskimos look no different than native siberian eskimos. Why is that? Alot of south east asians have darker skin because of the climate change when you go down. But if you look at them they look not so much different from pacific islanders or native americans amazonis. These people only got pushed back because europe discovered their continent
