      STSOF is one of my favorites, also. There is a live version of Badman's Song on YT that is incredible. It rivals STSOF, in my humble opinion.

    "Working Hour" is one of my favs of theirs. Other great ones are "Head Over Heals", " Sowing the Seeds of Love" (very Beatlisk), "Woman in Chains", " Shout" and a couple older classics of theirs: "Pale Shelter", "Change", " Mad World".

    This is probably the band's best-known song and much loved, but I'm with Roland. Although I love the song, I don't feel it's one of their best. Shout is the other song they're known for from radio play but there are so many more that I feel are much better: The Working Hour, Sowing the Seeds of Love, Woman in Chains (considered by many to be the best mixed song ever), Elemental, Raoul and the Kings of Spain, Mr. Pessimist, Break It Down Again, I can go on and on. Their production and engineering rivals Steely Dan, which is an ultimate compliment. And they released their last album, The Tipping Point, last year. The title track, The Tipping Point, is a must hear. One of my very favorite bands!

    Not really a Tears For Fears fan, don't own any of their albums, but I do really like their videos. When they came on MTV, back in the day, I would always watch them, and the songs and the videos always seemed to work well together. They had four or five "big" hits back then, and the vids are great, all worth a watch and listen.

    Tears For Fears are Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal, they are unique in that they both sing lead vocals. Curt sings lead on this one and although he has a sweet soul sounding voice, Orzabal has the more powerful voice, their voices blend beautifully when they sing lead together. If you delve into their career you will find they have recorded some absolute bangers. In my opinion, TFF are the best band to come out of the 80's. You should check out Shout, Mad World, Woman In Chains, Sowing The Seeds Of Love, Break It Down Again, Advice For The Young At Heart, The Tipping Point (a song about the death of Roland's wife in 2017) Pale Shelter, Rivers Of Mercy, Head Over Heels, Call Me Mellow, My Demons, the list goes on and on.

      Actually its only been 18 yrs between albums. They released Everybody Loves A Happy Ending in 2004 and their latest album The Tipping Point in 2022. Curt and Roland split after the 1989 album The Seeds Of Love. Roland still using the Tears For Fears name released Elemental in 1993 and Raoul And The Kings Of Spain in 1995 before teaming back up wirh Curt in 2000. Was lucky enough to see them live in 1996 , 2010 , 2022 and this year. They still sound great 40 yrs later.

    I'd just call it a pretty standard pop song, a nice studio production. It's funny, After the awesome 1970's, I found myself really down on most of the "rock & roll" that got played on the radio in the 1980's, which I called "formula rock" played by the "hair bands." (I caught a vid recently of a Robert Plant interview where he used the same term "formula rock" to describe the 1980's Rock scene.) Every once in a while something decent would surface, but it was an exception to the rule. Ironically, for someone like me who had mostly detested "pop music" in the late 1960's & 1970's, I thought the pop genre was pretty decent in the 1980's, this song being a great example of that. It was only in the late 1980's when Metallica surfaced that I started to get excited by hard rock again. Then when Grunge surfaced, I was again happy with where rock was going...

    Tears for Fears were one of the slickest, most enjoyable pop acts from the 80's. They really knew how to make catchy tunes and put passion into them. Songs From the Big Chair is one of the best albums of the 80's.

    You said in the last video I watched that you try not to over share here, and I get it. However, I have no such compunctions, and my story behind this song is very dear to my heart. I lost one (of 5!) of my sons five years ago and I am forever tied to this song through his birthday, (which oddly enough is the same date that my mother passed away, only when I was 10 years old and he was born 17 years later. Also, he passed on the same date as my father!). Here is the birthday story, as written on his FB page a few years ago, on his birthday: "Today I want tell the story of your birth and how there was not yet any cable in the city, just the county, but every Friday night at 11:30 there was a show, "Friday Night Videos". Tears for Fears was very popular then, (1985), and Everybody Wants to Rule the World came on, With the opening lines, "Welcome to your life. there's no turning back" which was just the perfect soundtrack for your arrival! So then it turns out you really DID want to rule the world! Probably COULD have, also! I would give everything I own for just one more day with you." I do not share this looking for pity or sympathy. Just to share a beautiful memory, from a beautiful time, with a beautiful person! Thanks!

    • @ShawnSalvadori
      @ShawnSalvadori  Před 11 měsíci +1

      I know you're not writing for sympathy, but I am sorry for your loss of your son.
      The closest person I've lost in my life is my mom, and music can both make a moment or break me in a moment. Either way it goes, music always plays a role in our emotion connection to those who've gone before us. I totally understand that connection ❤️

    I wouldn't call this New Wave. New Wave was a bit more of a pop off-shoot of the Punk movement. A little rougher around the edges. This is more just straight pop music, imho.
