£17,875 in the US £24,775 in the UK, fuck I hate living in the UK sometimes.
Ok not the most powerful car but sure its a smooth, comfortable, well equipped car, some people just don't get that its not all about HP. Nice ride but could do with bigger rims.
Tell me about it, Here in Australia the CLA250 is $74 000AUD ($69 000USD, £41 600) drive away that is with AWD though and sat nav standard. But still more than double the cost just to have a right hand drive here in Australia. Even the CLA200 is over $70 000.
What's with all the haters! "Uhh Derek I would've got..." My car is the exact opposite of this, but I still give Derek props for the clean ride. Real car guys respect each other's rides (except ricers).
Thanks Derek for this awesome Review! WE just got a Certified Pre-Owned of the same, and you are so right and I wholeheartedly agree with you,. but the Pros outweighs the Cons and I love my CLA250!

So it looks like this is the new "Baby" Benz. I think this is a great car for people who want to drive a Mercedes without dipping too much into their pocket book. Also great for young people. Personally, I'm holding out for the new 2015 C400...that'll be a nice update to my 2009 C300.

And the car is cool, no doubt. But we all see you as one of the most car loving guys in the world and expected you to have something a lot cooler... old Mustang or 911, a Lotus or something like that. I think this explains why so many hate in the comments to this video.
I had a VW cc for a brief couple months (owner was tight on money and I temporarily took over payments) I've been looking for one of my own ever since but the cla might be even better. Derek, how does the Mercedes compare to the cc?

I love Benz. I love this car, the way it looks and the price is jut right. I love that interior, the color, the design, the leather. I love how the seats go up to the sealing. just love it. Except that stupid screen and the hood kick stand. I rather pay more not to have a screen at all, and I would get after market hydrolic stands for my hood.

For a luxury brand the car gets great gas mileage and is an affordable price. Half the faster cars are either going to be way more expensive with less gas mileage or uglier for the same price. You want to feel good driving your car you spent your hard earned money on. Car looks great to me, but of course children of the Internet will always have better cars. Great review as always.
honestly derek, i no hate on you for buying this car. it's a mercedes with decent power and a bangin interior, and it's something you bought to celebrate your successful career.
but if it were me personally, i would have gone for a ford fusion titanium. it would have been the same money, but you would have had a wayyy bigger infotainment screen, the same quality leather interior, gps, auto parallel park, radar cruise control, the list goes on. not to mention that car looks just as good, if not better, is bigger and more practica, AND has 32 more horsepower and 12 more ft/lb torque. as far as im concerned, it's a no brainer. the only thing it's missing is a mercedes badge, which i'll admit, is worth a few grand by itself.
overall, i hope you continue to enjoy your car, as i'm sure you will. not a bad purchase by any means, but possibly just not the best.

Makes me wish I would have gotten my Civic as an 'Si'. I just didn't know how to drive standard and didn't have the time to. :/ I missed out on 60 horses.
Yes you get the bigger screen with nav, but you also get voice, backup camera etc... get that 2.0 flashed! Big hp gains.
I was going to ask if that was someone stealing your GoPro at the end. But then a familiar voice went off in my head "DUUUH, Michael, if it was stolen, how would they have to footage from it?!"

Derek D, you should have gotten the sport package, car looks naked without it! I got my CLA250 about 3 weeks ago and loving it, i took almost all the options including navi and paid lots more than base, no regrets thus far i knew what the compromises were before i bought it.
The head room in the back is just way too small which is why I went with the bigger C class and I feel like the entry level CLA 180 is completely underpowered. Well it depends on what you expect from your car but the 180 looks waay more powerful than it actually is which throws me off a little

I would also like a comparison between this and the CC... literally 50/50 between the two. Only real issue i've heard over and over for the cla is how slow the shifting is. Please do a CLA/CC comp if you can.
Working on cars I prefer to have a hood bar because hydraulics do give out and it’s annoying

I feel you Derek I can't believe they skimped on the hydraulic lifts for the hood and for gods sake if you install a start stop system on your car use an electric a/c compressor!!! I'm a MB owner too. I own a 2008 ML63 AMG. My hood supports are hydraulic but the hood doesn't extend to 90 degrees vertical like my old 2004 E320 did. Its a handy feature when doing work under the hood.
Contrary to popular belief, not all cars are built for speed and handling. For this price range I personally opted for the Focus ST because, in my young age I want to take advantage of being socially and physically able to drive a car like a hot hatch...but I think it's clear that Derek D didn't buy his CLA for its performance cred. Yes, it's a Mercedes and that automatically makes it somewhat pretentious, but it's a nice alternative in that price range to the barking hot hatches like the ST fords, Wrx, MS3 etc. Just a comfortable, efficient, good looking, well equipped, cruiser for a good price.

Just had my Q50 stolen at a gas station while putting air in a tire. Decided to grab a cla 250. Bout to pick it up. Test drive was great, cool car.

Yeah agreed, that frame is so thick...makes the screen look like this cheap gps device you buy at best buys...
You can pay £200 and get the 20cm screen which looks much better.
Plasti Dip on the wheels is best thing if you have real winter in your place! I had second set of alloy wheels with winter tires on them and I used them only on winter. Here in Poland we have a lot of snow, ice, sand and salt on the roads in winter. After 8 years my alloy wheels started to be oxidised from the salt. Plasti Dip will save your wheels and wallet from that!
When the Derek D get this car and likes it. You should get it too.

Well it depends on what your looking for because WRX are sporty and fast but have a cheap quality interior. He was probably looking for something more presentable considering that he is an actor so he is going to be going to auditions a lot. SO the Mercedes badge would be more recognized and understood rather than a WRX.

Sweet ride Good Sir! I love it's styling, & MB did a good job for making the price point work effortlessly. I had read that the front door arm rests are a little small/short for taller drivers though. Thanks for the review & the tip re: the rims!

Wow, Nice car- pretty bold puttin it out there so haters can hate on it. I love love love the two-tone with the ivory seats! I also agree bout the game they play with the little screen to get ya to spring for navi. Triple black exterior seems so Derek D. But there's gotta be a ton of Tri-black Mercs on the shore, so just be sure ya hop in the right one. Sweet ride.
personally, for that money i would rather have a focus st, golf gti, jetta gli, or a wrx

Well when you're 19 like me you don't really think about family, but I drove my aunts ford fusion and it's a really nice car looks like an Aston Martin

Well the cla and fusion are both great. you would obviously get more optional features for the same price with the ford. So unless you really love the way the cla looks or care about the mercedes badge, fusion is pretty good.

I'm not a fan, I wouldn't buy a CLA... but it looks like a nice car, good for you DD for being able to afford a car new and from the showroom. I'm assuming you bought the car to be a compact, economical cruiser and it looks like that is exactly what you got.

The cool thing about the ac is my car also does that. you just turn the vent like he does in the video but my car was made in 1999 and the name of the car is a cougar. oh and my ac only blows out lava.
The entertainment/navigation screen needs to have a thin bezel. Other than that, it's a fantastic car. Thanks for sharing.
Not too bad, but I have a top spec 2014 forester xt and your video only made me feel better about that choice. (I live in a rural area and put on up to 700 miles a week. I don't think a merc would do well going to oil rigs)

But you didnt talk about the transmission being right behind the paddle shifters. Are you ok with that. I feel like that can cause a problem in some ways if you're in manual mode

the thing about start stop and no ac kinda sucks you would think could come up with a way around that. run ac compressor off an electric motor so it doesn't matter.its a nice car just saying I think Mercedes could have stepped up there game on that.

Thinking about trading my 2018 Chevy Malibu for this car.. part of me feels like it would be a step down because my current car is a push to start, keyless entry and is a newer model but I really love the style of this benz. If you are reading this what do you think I should do?

Hey Derek, which plasti dip(brand) did you use for your wheels looks cool. Because if yours lasted through snow and salt etc. I live in so-cal. I guess that plasti dip will be bullet proof for my wheels. Great video tho and great car.
