Its a good thing to not tell parents while they're away (they'll freak out) but definitely ground and impose strict consequences for the action so they don't do it again ;)

HOLY MOLY!!! I'm happy she returned!!! I'm the oldest sister to my brother and whenever my mom and dad are away, They leave me in charge. When I turn 16, I'll talk to my parents about babysitting my brother while they're on vacation or a business trip or whatever instead of hiring a babysitter to look after me and my brother.
My brother behaves very well, he never leaves the house despite him being level 2 autistic. ;)
