    I have some white clover in my yard, but I don't mind. The neighbor's bees like it, so I tolerate it.
    When I mow the yard, I try to keep an eye out for the bees on the clover blossoms, so I don't run over them. 🐝 🙂

    @bhepner1 Před 3 lety +4

    The sod farms in Indiana add clover to the grass. It maintains moisture and holds green better. They say you can’t tell the difference from street view. I have a lot of clover but I live in the country and anything green on the ground looks good enough.

  • @stevensievert8375
    @stevensievert8375 Před 3 lety +5

    White clover indicates nitrogen deficient soil. If you fertilized with nitrogen, you would see less clover or no clover, if you have enough nitrogen in your soil, because the grass would grow better. From the internet, clover each time it's mowed can release 100-150lbs of nitrogen per acre. I personally have decided the last few years to use no chemicals on my lawn to avoid runoff into streams.

    I have a JD sprayer for my Gator. It's 12V instead of PTO driven. I think it hold 45 gallons. It does have a remote fob which is handy. With the 1025R you can turn a lot shorter than I can in the Gator. It's a pretty good sprayer for me. Thanks for showing us around this sprayer.

  • @markcalvert6949
    @markcalvert6949 Před 3 lety

    I just bought a Frontier LS 2004 sprayer and love it. It is 45 gallon and has a 4 gpm electric pump. In addition to lawncare when trees and flower beds get dry I simply use the convenient hand sprayer to water.
    Quality of the sprayer is very good and works well on my 1025R. Frontier missed the boat by not utilizing the 12 V electrical outlet on the tractor versus having to run wiring from the battery. I tried a fuse protected plug to use the outlet on the tractor but it pops 7 & 7.5 Amp fuses. Ten Amp fuses run "very warm". As such, I will be installing cabling from the battery next week.
    I found this video informative, thanks you.

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  Před 3 lety +1

      Yea, it would be nice if the 12v outlet supported more power. As it is, nearly everything requires a separate run to the battery!

Sprayed to kill quack grass before plowing and discing and we dragged it to collect roots and burn. We then planted the corn with a horse drawn 3pt planter ( i loved to ride on the seat the brake turn arounds were fun) then dad cultivated a couple times then would spray while could get down the rows. I’ve always ran foam marker kits. From ones I have made with a gas can and tire inflator (worked really good actually) to a purchased system but I would never pay what this system cost. You can buy the crop care system that is identical to this, for a third of the price on Amazon. I currently have the 45 gal JD electric sprayer, 150” boom, and the crop care foam system. Some modification was needed to make it all work but it does. One thing I did was add flat steel extension to the booms to extend the foam marker drops out 15” from the last nozzle to stop any overlap.

    Clover, specifically white clover is usually added to grass seed blends as it fixes Nitrogen in the soil. If you have clover taking over an area of your lawn do a soil test (can go to your cooperative extension.) As the Nitrogen is increased in the soil the clover will die back and the grass will take over.

    Triclopyr is the active ingredient in crossbow (road) at 16% concentration
    They also make a 61% concentration. Works great for poison Ivy.
    Quinclorac also works on clover. - surfactant also required.
    FYI Tim triclopyr comes in 2 versions. Triclopyr 3 and 4, T3 is for aquatic use to and t4 is for ground use. You may want to give t3 a try on the pond to help clean it up.
    Tim you didn’t talk about the use of surfactants to me mixed with the sprayer. Something to help the chemical solution stick to the leaf blade, Foliage application is much more absorbing to a plant than root update. For that reason always spray a few days minimum before you mow. Let the leaf of the plant absorb chemical into the plant fully before you mow and shop if off the leaf.

    Tim your yard will never look better than it does now if you keep using crossbow.... Too late in the year to get a good kill in clover. Spot spray Crossbow in the spring and increase lbs/ac of nitrogen. Crossbow is fantastic for ditches and fence rows but stunts grass. I mentioned the above last year but you keep pushing...😊 Stick with 2,4-D Amine or Ester depending on time of year and application conditions. To eliminate danelions, spray in the fall.

      I’d be nervous about spraying chemicals across my lawn when I drink the water from my well below it. It’s probably an overblown concern of mine… but rather be safe then sorry. Agree on the pollinator front, I leave my “weeds” in my lawn and every spring I see a ton of bees. I imagine our upbringing was much different then Tim’s, he grew up on a farm spraying the fields so it’s something he probably isn’t too concerned with since he’s been around it his whole life. Growing up a city boy, I just read the labels and get concerned whenever I consider spraying anything on my lawn.

    I have the same one as you have in this video. I don’t have the foam marker option.
    I really like this sprayer, I was looking into trying to get a larger version maybe 150 gallon for my 5 series machines.
    All I see on the Deere website now is the Frontier sprayers.
    Do you have any insight on this?
    Did Deere drop these sprayers from their lineup, maybe something happened after superior tech changed hands?

      Had one other question for ya, why not just kick the PTO on and off to control your on and off for spraying?
      I have mine typically on my 3R or 4R and with my cabs I can’t reach those flow levers at all.
      One of the main reasons I only wanted a PTO sprayer, was so I could control my on and off with my PTO switch.

      @@TractorTimewithTim Thanks Tim
      I called Agri-fab /Superior tech /terraking etc. this morning.
      They just told me some stuff carried over others didn't.
      They seemed almost as confused as my Deere dealer about what is going on with these Deere sprayers.
      I did confirm they are making the Frontier versions that Deere offers and that LS2015 is a good buyable product.
      I think the new number for one similar to our 60 gallon is the Frontier LS2006.
      My Deere dealer said the old Deere LP model numbers are still show as good numbers, only none in stock at Deere DCs.
      All very confusing. All I wanted to do was pretty much what you said you had wanted was a bigger tank and 15 gallon boom. Only I was wanting 150 gallon rather then the 90 gallon. Looks like if I buy the LS2015 it looks similar to what I have but with the Frontier name rather than the Deere name on it, I have to wonder if they cheapened anything up or is it still the same product.
      Like you said in the video to get the Deere branded it has to be the best of the best materials. Frontier quite often is a green paint job for some of their stuff.

    2-4-D has been around a long time. Unfortunately, it is a herbicide not an insecticide. Having used it for over 50 years it has not reduced the mosquito or fly population around here at all. Bees either for that matter.

    2,4d is am amazing broadleaf herbicide. Developed during ww2, it is probably the most studied herbicide and revolutionized agricultural due to its selectively. We simply would not be as fat as we are without it. There is no reason to believe that it affects bees. The evidence suggests that it doesn’t cause cancer either and we have the time and studies to back that up. However I still use a mask and long sleeves when I apply it. Another interesting fact is that 2,4d was an ingredient in Agent Orange during Vietnam.
