The entry model into the world of BMW X is now more appealing than ever. In its third model generation, the new BMW X1 boasts a more prominent design, superior spaciousness, advanced digitalisation - and, for the first time, an all-electric drive system.
The surface treatment, lines and classy exterior design details of the BMW X1 display its Sports Activity Vehicle identity more clearly than ever in its third model generation. Distinctive design features include the powerful proportions, almost square wheel arch contours and the signature BMW X model styling of the front and rear ends.
The upright front end of the new BMW X1 gives it a much greater sense of presence, with slim LED headlights, a large, almost square BMW kidney grille, X-shaped lines radiating out to the sides and eye-catching chrome strips in the lower air intake serving as its defining elements. Adaptive LED headlights with matrix high beam, pulsating turn indicators and variable light distribution are available as an option.
Expressively sculpted surfaces and a long roofline are the distinguishing features of the new model’s dynamically stretched silhouette. When viewed from the rear, the slim tailgate window, horizontal lines, striking LED lights and flared wheel arches produce the typical SAV look.
The robust aura of the new BMW X1 can be intensified to great effect with the specific design elements of the xLine model, which include stylistic underride protection. The M Sport model also offered as an alternative to base specification places the focus firmly on dynamic driving pleasure with features such as its large cooling air inlets.
All model variants come as standard with 17-inch light-alloy wheels. 18-inch light-alloy wheels are fitted on xLine and M Sport cars, although these models are also available with 19-inch and - in a first for the BMW X1 - 20‑inch wheels. Customers can choose from two solid and ten metallic shades for the exterior paint finish - including a Frozen paint option from BMW Individual for the first time.
A raised seating position and a progressive premium ambience styled on the BMW iX help to create a distinctive driving experience inside the compact SAV. The key elements of the cabin’s redesign are the slender instrument panel, the BMW Curved Display, the “floating” armrest with integral control panel and the smartphone tray with indirect illumination at the front of the centre console.
The newly developed seats are available with the option of both Sensatec perforated and Vernasca leather upholstery. Also to be found on the options list are sport seats, electric seat adjustment with memory function and lumbar support including massage function. Improvements have been made to both acoustic comfort and occupant protection. The integrated passive safety concept now also includes a new interaction airbag between the front seats.
The rear compartment of the new BMW X1 includes three full-sized seats offering a notable improvement in seating comfort. The 40 : 20 : 40 split rear seat backrests can be folded down or adjusted to a different angle to expand the boot capacity. The fore-and-aft adjustment of the rear seats available as an option for the purely combustion-engined models provides even greater versatility. Boot capacity can be increased from 540 to a maximum of 1,600 litres. The trailer tow hitch available to order as an option for the new BMW X1 is now operated electrically at the touch of a button.
The new BMW X1 will be launched with a choice of conventional combustion engines featuring two petrol and two diesel units from the BMW Group’s new modular generation of Efficient Dynamics engines. Second-generation 48V mild hybrid technology with an electric motor integrated into the seven-speed Steptronic transmission is on hand to help boost both efficiency and power delivery in the two most powerful engines.
This enables the four-cylinder BMW X1 xDrive23i to produce maximum output of 160 kW/218 hp. Also in the launch line-up is the new BMW X1 sDrive18i powered by a 100 kW/136 hp three-cylinder engine.
A four-cylinder diesel engine combines with mild hybrid technology in the new BMW X1 xDrive23d to deliver maximum output of 155 kW/211 hp. The four-cylinder diesel unit in the new BMW X1 sDrive18d generates 110 kW/150 hp.
The BMW iX1 xDrive30 is the first all-wheel-drive electric car introduced by the brand in the premium compact segment. Two highly integrated drive units at the front and rear axles deliver a combined output of 230 kW/313 hp, and post overall torque of 494 Nm (364 lb-ft). The electric all-wheel-drive system ensures supreme traction and directional stability in all situations. The BMW iX1 xDrive30 completes the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint in 5.7 seconds.

WHAT the now one looks so much boxier
maybe previous X1 looks less SUV-ish but he can take same amount of luggage as Volvo Xc60 for example and same time you can feel handling much better than big SUV. I can't see any bad point on the F48 - really good daily car that can take you for long trip. I normally driving from London to Austria with wife and two kids with all ski equipment and have no problem at all, already been twice this year.

Doubt the handling is better, these cars are built on sedan chasis vs X3 has an actual SUV chasis with things like reinforced crossbars etc
Just traded in my 2016 x1 m sport for the 2023 x1 m sport and Im really pleased. They seem so similar and yet so different. I absolutely loved my 2016 but the cockpit in the 2023, the seats, the i8 interface are just so impressive. Car has awesome feel and more power. Love it.

Of course the grill is bigger. But now it looks like a legit BMW overall. We had a ‘17 X1 M Sport and was easily the best handling SUV I have ever driven. Could not tell it was FWD based. Also the interior room was not much less than our current X3M. Excellent and very well built little cars.

Old one looks curvier. The new one has more defined lines, keeping in line with the trend, but I also happen to like the new one better.

Being the owner of X1 2022, I still prefer the exterior of the 2022, but interior of the 2023 wins 😍
x1 2022 doesnt look like a suv, the 2023 in the other hand looks like a real suv like the x3 :).
The iX begins at approximately 90K vs. $40-45 K for an XI. There is no way that you can tell me that any aesthetic, savings in gas, or performance can justify buying the electric. You can buy another current electric for far less. If you wait a couple years, there will be much more electric cars to choose from. I had a 79’ 320i and a 99’ 530. They drive beautifully, but when I bought my 79’ they weren’t as common on American roads. Now they’re as ubiquitous as Toyotas. 😊

The frontal overhang has grown by 3.5 cm which gives the car less good proportions than the previous model.
Now the nose is very prominent ...
No ACC still , and not just this BMW model. You get ACC as standard on a £25K mg4.

I’ll be keeping my older x1 m sport. I like the traditional bmw looking grille and interior.
To be perfect , the new X1 2023 BMW needs the 2 chrome exhaust systems on the back! the lower back area is just boring and plain as the electric cars. Fix it to be perfect! the previous generation back of the car is more fun.

At least in India, BMW is not a brand to own for even one generation. Max 6 years & it's over.
Headliner, Door pads, Sponge packings in cabin, Shockabsorvers casings will give away. Definite noisy engine.

Well that sucks, but it all depends on how you treat the car. My dad has a 318 from 2003 and it's still going strong, minor issues that started this year, but after 20 years it was to be expected. The sponges, cabin, leather, etc are still perfect.

My another car Alto K10 AMT Maruti ( made in India ) much cheaper & much better. Ran in Lakh km.
My 40 years old Merc ( still in use ) has given me much better service & overall durability it's way better.
BMW is a use & throw brand. It has no culture except price.

I fully agree! The new X1 looks like a box car missing the fun! Specially the lower back side of the car is missing the 2 chrome exhaust system !

Why the obsession with ugly, oversize grilles? BMW's front-end styling used to be so good but now I'm not even sure I would want to be seen dead in one
