KTM invited us out to to ride their new 2012 125, 150, and 250 2 stroke bikes. Riders include David Pingree, Phil Lawrenece, Jason Kimball, and some hot laps by PJ Larsen.
steel frames allow the bike to flex more than an aluminium, which helps on hard pack slippery track for traction. and there bikes are still just as light as all the others, so its a win win

Like the other poster pointed out they use Chromoly steel which is a special blend of steel made in Japan. It is stronger ounce for ounce than aluminum allowing KTM to use less material to get the same strength and rigidity from the frame meaning a lighter frame.
Because steel frames have superior flex characteristics to aluminum. When a motorcycle is carving a corner, the suspension doesn't actuate properly and the frame must be able to flex in order for the motorcycle to track properly. Steel holds a natural advantage in that regard over aluminum. But, your point was weight...and they are very competitive on weight.
Four strokes are heavier and harder to work on so you have to take it to dealership to have it work which means more money for dealership and the maker.
If there's a hole being blown in the pipe that's from a rock hitting it from someone else's roost. The airflow through the pipe doesn't have enough pressure to blow a hole through aluminum lol.
Let the 2 stroke be hear on earth that's y god made 2 strokes to have fun and race and meet new people racing long live 2 strokes I don't have one yet but I will get a 125 2 stroke yamaha or Honda mabey a ktm probley not but still god put 2 stroke here for a reason

Guess what a 2012 250sx TUBULAR steel frame not only has some flexibility in it(which is good) but it is LIGHTER than the 2012 YZ250 frames. It's not a solid steel old technology frame like they used to be. These frames are TUBULAR. Very thin metal and also VERY strong and has some flex. Much more comfortable ride than any of the aluminum frames. Once again KTM wins

How is it even an argument in moto cross. 2 stroke is simply more fun. More response, more skill required. I understand why 4 strokes can be useful, but in motocross its 2 stroke all day imo
A 450 makes about 50-55 hp the 250 2t make 46-48 hp.. the 450s make in the upper 30s ft lbs and the 250 2t make about 30ft lbs... then you're talking a 30-40 lb weight difference. The 450s still have a SLIGHTLY better power to weight ratio but it's no where NEAR what most uneducated riders out there claim about the 450/250 2t battle. James Stewart was still winning races as late as 2006 on a 250 2 stroke. It just takes a lot better rider to ride fast on a 2 stroke thats the ONLY real difference

Yeah dude 100% ey, only problem is the 150 blow holes in the pipe quite often haha, my mate had 3 different pipes within 2 race days.
