    I had a major bypass surgery last year, when I woke I was in the ICU and I remember the nurse taking away my urine collection bag as they were closely watching my intake and output, but the contents were nearly black, darker than Pepsi. The operation took a lot longer than planned, they said it would be 4 to 6 hours in the OR but it ended up being 12. They bypassed the aorta and both femoral arteries. I was so out of it I did not ask about the pee, but they had a lot of fluid going into me by IV lines, as in multiple IVs. At one point there were 5 bags hanging from the IV poles, fentanyl, morphine (Dilaudid) and who knows what all. All I know is I had to really beg and plead for a few ice chips just to hydrate my mouth and throat. I overheard one nurse at shift change saying he did not think I was going to make it. The pee also had a reddish cast, and the surgery took so long with the aorta closed that my spleen infarcted. No other information about that, I hope I still have one.

If you are doing a lot of exercise in humid conditions over long periods of time such as hiking and drinking a lot of water to make up for the loss in sweat, you also lose all salts and minerals in doing this. Two stories. When my grandfather was a pediatrician his assistant (my grandma) played a prank on him and filled a sample cup with fresca soda which was new then. My grandfather freaked out when he saw bubbling on the slide and told my grandma to call fresca's parents and tell them to bring her to the ER.
    A sadder story was with the head of neurology at the hospital my mom was working at. He was diagnosed with late stage bladder cancer and eventually passed away from it. It turns out he was peeing blood for a long time but somehow never noticed because he was colorblind and therefore let the cancer progress. I didn't know it was possible to be that intensely colorblind but who knows.

      Hours anywhere from 14 hrs. Or more, your uric acid levels will elevate. Your urine will turn darker.
      Once you drink enough water they will go back down. The main factor is that every one’s body is different & a lot of Dr’s & people do not consider this. Especially a lot of the nutritional gurus on here & elsewhere. Example fasting, keto diet, other diets etc… everyone is different & they may not be able to process certain foods, amounts of water etc…

    TMI probably, only things i usually drink is water, beer. Occasionally juice. Mine in the morning is very dark yellow, but as the day goes by its usually the "goldilocks" color. If im very stressed sometimes it is pink. I drink everynight for sleep, not to just get fucked up. In the daytimes at work ill usually drink a gallon of water over an 8 hour span. I know drinking isn't good for the organs and body. BUT, if im going through a gallon of water a day, regardless of drinking alot everynight (i have a VERY HIGH tolerance to alcohol) is it still bad? The end of the night its still that slight clear yellow.

    The amount of water a person needs daily is not one size fits all. It depends on height/weight, where you live (ie in Arizona vs New England states ... in Arizona, it is much hotter and your need for water is more. Also the amount of exercise you do/don't do. The more exercise you do, the more water you'll need. Things like that.

    • @SmallSpoonBrigade
      @SmallSpoonBrigade Před rokem +1

      TBH, the best way of going about it is paying attention to how much is going in and how much is going out. It can be a bit tough in places like Arizona that are both extremely hot and extremely dry during parts of the year as it can be difficult to know how much your sweating if it immediately evaporates. But, in that case, you'd look at how much you're peeing and what it looks like. If it starts to get chunky or foamy, then you're in a fair it of trouble.

I take prescription medication including diuretics to hell shed fluids accumulated in my heart and lower legs/feet.My target weight is 90kg, but i can only keep it stable at 100-103 kg before i struggle with weight gain. Judging my hydration level by looking at my urine colour is problematic.
    Mornings around 07.00am the colour is usually dark tea. Noon time 12.00am the colour is typically dark yellow. The colour by dinner time 19.00pm is very pale yellow or white. Bedtime is typically 12.00 pm midnight and the colour is normally golden yellow. Great right?
    I drink 4-6 x 500ml bottles of still water per day to keep hydration levels up, but I often wake up during the night with a terribly dry mouth and palate. Increasing the water/fluid intake makes no discernable difference. How come?
