Lyrics:
The best of times is now.
What's left of Summer
But a faded rose?
The best of times is now.
As for tomorrow,
Well, who knows? Who knows? Who knows?
So hold this moment fast,
And live and love
As hard as you know how.
And make this moment last
Because the best of times is now,
Is now, is now.
Now, not some forgotten yesterday.
Now, tomorrow is too far away.
So hold this moment fast,
And live and love
As hard as you know how.
And make this moment last,
Because the best of times is now,
Is now, is now.
The best of times is now.
What's left of summer
But a faded rose?
The best of times is now.
As for tomorrow,
Well, who knows? Who knows? Who knows?
So hold this moment fast,
And live and love
As hard as you know how.
And make this moment last,
Because the best of times is now,
Is now, is now.
Now, not some forgotten yesterday.
Now, tomorrow is too far away.
So hold this moment fast,
And live and love
As hard as you know how.
And make this moment last,
Because the best of times is now,
Is now, is now.
The best of times is now.
What's left of Summer
But a faded rose?
The best of times is now.
As for tomorrow,
Well, who knows? Who knows? Who knows?
So hold this moment fast,
And live and love
As hard as you know how.
And make this moment last
Because the best of times is now,
Is now, is now.
Now, not some forgotten yesterday.
Now, tomorrow is too far away.
So hold this moment fast,
And live and love
As hard as you know how.
And make this moment last,
Because the best of times is now, is now.
So hold this moment fast,
And live and love
As hard as you know how.
And make this moment last,
Because the best of times is now,
Is now, is now,
Is now, is now.

When La Cage premiered on Broadway we were in some of the darkest days of the AIDS pandemic. Working in Greewich Village and summering at Fire Island we couldn't escape the sadness, horror, and death that engulfed our community. We had to help and support our community to get through this horrific time. I must have known at least 100 that died between Greenwich Village and Fire Island. We would cling to anything that would give us the strength to move on and accept the sickness and deaths of some of our dearest friends and aquaintances. This Musical by Jerry Herman and Harvey Firestien had inspiration songs that helped us move towards the future and past a castatrophe we didn't know would ever end.
One of my favorite songs
B Term. Indeed! And 50 years on the pain may be suppressed - but never quite forgotten. Some compensation may be to have experienced an amazing era, with artistic gems in so many fields which echo on and remain immortal!
