  • Another classic dirt bike from my video archives and this time its the turn of Andrew Craig's 1979 Mark12 250 Bultaco Pursang. This bike has obviously undergone a full restoration and is the extra long travel model from that year.

Very nice example of a pursang. Always had a soft spot in my heart for the Bultacos. Bought a Basket case Alpina many years ago, sadly sold to a friend. Also owned a Ossa Pioneer, very orange, sadly sold that also. Really Love the Spanish bikes..THEY RULE!!!

It is too bad Bultaco went out of business. Early on they were quite innovative but they failed to keep up with the quality of metallurgy that the Japanese (and other manufacturers) began to put into their machines. It is an example of "resting on your laurels" instead of continuing to do research and inject the results into your product. The "Tacos" were such beautiful motorcycles. I've used Bings in Huskys and find I could make more top end with the Bing over Mikuni but the Mikuni was easier to get bottom/midrange out of them. Thank you for your excellent uploads and all the research that you put into each of them. Tom

Good morning Chris,I had a 74 persang. Fastest 250 I ever had. It was cherry ,bought it from my brother in law. He got it new . He did a very long jump and whacked his face on the handle bar cross support. It then sat on a crate for years until I got it. When I was out of work 20 years ago and had to sell it. Biggest mistake ever. A guy from work asked me all the time to sell it to him . Out of work for 6 months I sold it. The tires still had the rubber mold Titties on it when I sold it. Very low hours on it when I sold it .The only thing not original was the rear fender,I broke it on one of the many times I flipped it. I wish you could see the smile on my face as you went around this bike. Thanks for the upload and a great trip down memory lane. Thanks again and Happy New Year. 👍

Thanks a lot. I'm spanish ; yes, first spanish bike with reed valve. Montesa and Ossa never put reed valves on their MX bikes.
