      Welcome to the channel! Project Hail Mary is one of my all-time favourite books! Hyperion is great, but it is more dark, heavy, and literary than Andy Weir.

    Just finished the 1st book. Starting the second soon. What a ride! I enjoyed all of the tales, especially the Scholar's. Humor, human struggle, love, spite, terror, war, pain, triumph - this book has it all. A great read.

      Another really great channel for sci fi is Bookpilled. He has a way of describing writing styles that is rarely seen on youtube, highly recommended

    I finished it last night. The last 30 pages or so I was completely glued to the book. Overall very good and some nice lofty scifi stuff. Kudos to the author for how he portrays the Shrike so far cause it could've easily been such a schlockly horror trope. I'm still intrigued as to its origins and motives. Excited to read the next book.

      That’s awesome to hear! I agree, the book is ambitious sci-fi, and the Shrike is rather mysterious and unique. I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts on The Fall of Hyperion. The structure is quite different, and it takes a few pages to get going, but I loved it!

    I love, love, love the first two books, especially the first one. I read Hyperion for the first time around 25 years ago when I was 10, it was the first truly adult book I ever read and I was just drawn into the world. The structure of the book is so fantastic and variety of genres and themes Simmons' explores is spectacular.
    If the announced Hyperion film project gets off the ground I hope it'll get the Dune treatment and not just turn it into mindless action schlock trying to please everyone but only end up disappointing everyone. Treat it with respect, make it a two parter with three stories in each films or maybe don't do a film at all and respect the books structure and make it a show.
    EDIT: What I think is more important for a Hyperion adaptation is to keep more intimate and personal instead of trying to go too big, too grand too soon, save that for the fall of Hyperion when all shit hits the fan.

    It's a classic sci fi novel with compelling tales, interesting characters and epic world building. I do completely agree with you about the ending. I was eager for a more complete satisfying ending to wrap it all up but unfortunately I feel the author did not stick the landing. There was no ending. Hopefully, we have closure in the sequel(s), cross fingers

    I've heard this series praised before, but as someone who is not at all fond of short stories I'm concerned I won't like Hyperion. Is it connected enough to overcome that? Or does it feel like a collection of short stories?

    • @WordsinTime
      @WordsinTime  Před rokem

      Great question! I also prefer novels to short story collections and that could be why I prefer the sequel The Fall of Hyperion. Together, Hyperion and The Fall of Hyperion complete a full story arc. To me, Hyperion felt like a lot of backstory without a lot of plot progression in the present timeline. I still enjoyed Hyperion, but I loved The Fall of Hyperion.
