- Hello everyone. This is the first of two catches of the Reading and Northern railroads steam engine 2102. This location is just past the route 61 bridge that crosses both the Schuylkill river and the Reading and Northern mainline. Thank you for watching. 5/25/24

I've never ridden behind 2102 but I've taken other trains on this line and it is a smooth ride through here.

Quite a nice looking consists this year much of which I hadn't seen before. Where are all the faded former Lackawanna coaches? I hope they're getting some attention in Andy's great paint shop.
@1940limited I am not completely certain but I believe some of the older coaches are at Cressona yard. I also remember a little bird telling me that one of the coaches used on the CNJ 113 trip a last week in Minersville is about to be redone.
@@kevinsalsbury2118 I would love to see the DL&W coaches repainted. I rode them for years on the Morristown line in NJ.

Thank you Peter. The Reading and Northern owns all of the cars to the best of my knowledge. I believe most of them say Reading and Northern or Reading, Blue Mountain and Northern.
The project 113 folks have an old Central Railroad of New Jersey coach sitting in Minersville that is really cool.
When I notice in most of the videos them steam engines don't blow much smoke I think they run cleaner than the ones they use now you do your hardly see any smoke coming out of them things except when the first pulling out but that thing was like half throttle through there and there's no smoke
You are correct about this catch here Bruce. While I do believe she was climbing a bit through Hamburg it's nothing compared to further north. When she was pulling out of Tamaqu you could see a lot more smoke.
Depends on the coal, too. I’ve volunteered on a couple of steam tourist lines. We bought coal by the hopper car load and had really bad luck as I recall with coal from one particular mine. You have to watch the fly ash, too. It’s a big problem if you light the local woods on fire. BTDT.
Check out the Pacific running on US Sugar co. trackage in Florida. It’s an oil burner. I fired and ran it when it was in NJ years ago. You could make smoke just by twisting the oil feed valve. BUT - no fly ash and no trackside fires.
You lit the woods on fire!? Bet that is a mess to sort out. I believe the steam engine that runs on the Bel-Del is oil also. I've yet to see that one.

Definitely burning anthracite. The grade here is not very steep. Not sure if this is accurate but they would be stopping in about 3 miles to pick up more passengers so perhaps they were throttling back here. Coming out of Tamaqu she was puffing pretty good.
