Updates are great when they can be done for sure.
I have been doing the same recently and thinning the herd by selling and giving friends knives that I never carry and now only picking up knives I have wanted for a while not just what’s new and cool. I seem to enjoy the knives I carry even more now
Old knives make great Christmas presents
The fact that it doesn’t have a sharpening choil checks off one of my “knife feature boxes”.
They can be handy, but I prefer not to have them on an EDC knife (folder or fixed) that’ll be used in a utility fashion.
I’ve done a number of blind cuts that got snagged up by that choil.
If only I could get passed that 400 dollar price tag on a knife made in China.

About a month ago, I bought the thumbstud/G10 version of the Redencion (I'm not really a flipper guy). It was my first Chaves and first Reate build. I was so blown away buy the design and build quality, I immediately ordered the same version of the Liberation. It's also an awesome knife.

Ramon has always made some of my fave blades. He lives not too far from me. I’d love to go chat with him and check out some of his custom work. We talked about it but I never got to go. Maybe this year. I want a custom but I can’t shell over a grand for a single blade. So this on sale at BHQ hits just right.

I’ve had my Urban EDC exclusive Chaves 229 Tanto Kickstop for a few months now, and it’s still one of my very favorite knives. I particularly like the heavy stonewashed finish and seigaiha engraving on the scales.
Chaves’ and Williams’ designs are phenomenal, and Reate’s production quality is amongst the finest in the world. Fantastic knife. 👍
It's definitely turned into one of my favorite knives released this year, Ramon and Lee paired up for one helluva collab
Updates are truly what I look for on a knife that’s been on the market for a bit. Falling in love out of the box may be completely different 1-6 months down the road.

I have Chaves Ultramar Redencion Street. It's a solid piece of knife. Lock-up is beautiful, no play in any direction whatsoever. Also the action is really nice. Overall I'm happy.

I have both of the kickstop knives, my tanto is a custom and I am debating on sending the drop point to Doody to have a small sharpening choil put In...but shipping it worrys me a bit.
I was ranting about the sharpening choil absence since before this version was actually available for purchase! I can only hope they include that and thumb studs along with the next variant so there will be multiple methods of deployment
Yeah lack of sharpening choice at this price point is dissapointing..as for the deployment methods I don't really mind the lack of a thumbstud because those get in the way when I sharpen..also there's less expensive versions without the kickstop that have thumbstuds and sharpening choil so that may be the way to go if that's a deal breaker
I really like mine feels great in the hand, and it has the coolest knife clip ever !
I need out over knife design and different design language from different designers so things like the chaves signature clip are right up my alley
I think updates are a great idea. Unless it is a safe queen, you cannot fully evaluate a knife until you have carried and used it..
My current favorite carry knife (g10 tanto version). I've never consistently carried a knife this "big," but I just can't keep the sucker out of my pocket. Sizewise, I actually prefer to carry the Redencion Street, but the Kickstop adds a ton of appeal to me.
love this knife.. but yea I agree, WHY no sharpening choil ??
I'm really considering this model but I have bought and sold several of his knives with the main problem being the sharp corners in hand, is this model any different? It doesn't look like they rounded the corners any on the scales unfortunately, that in my mind would help out majorly in the ergonomic department in my opinion but this is a very tempting knife for sure. Also don't really like the look of the blade without the choil but that's probably just something that takes a bit to get used to compared to the older models. Thanks!
I’m so up in the air on this knife. I have an OG 229 so the screws in the clip bother me. I’m hoping they come out with a 2.0 with hidden screws and sharpening Choil.
I dont know about the value of the kickstop for me, but i do love my 229 redencion. Skull clip all day every day.

Does this have screws that screw directly into the non show side scale? This is the one turn off on prior Chavez knives.

I know this is an older thread, but I got a quick question. I had gotten the natural G10 scale tanto version, because it was the only one available with satin tanto blade. Are you familiar with good scale makers? I hate the way the jade G10 looks. I tried Etsy but I mostly get brass options. Appreciate the help.
Congrats on the pickup! Not sure if youre on Instagram but if you want a custom show side scale made I'd suggest reaching out to ShepardCC on instagram and see if he could do one for you..not sure if he does titanium(you'd have to ask) but his custom scales are some of the best I've seen
I have a small chaves TAK and want a full size.
You spend more but the full size chaves are so good(at least I think so)...I keep waiting for chaves to come out with a model that has a fuller or deployment hole

I carried the kickstop Chavez exclusively until I got the CKF Gnome, it was the only thing that was able to kick the Chaves out of my pocket!
You said it best that the acoustics on the kickstop Chaves is just so goddamn amazing. Fit and finish is exactly what you expect from Reate. Absolutely amazing knife!
