I laughed so hard when it snapped!! Like how many times does this happen to all of us! Classic!
Keeping it real ✌🏼😆
Did exactly the thing last year, I didn't realise the bulb was underground . First time growing garlic, really ,massive (solemt) bulbs, dried them , platted like a domestic goddess. Hung them in the kitchen
This year very different story , so looking to preserve the lot. Thankfully no miner larvae so drying in the shed
The music, the veggies, the colours and the way you talk soothes me :) thanks for the great content.
Thanks so much for this video!! I came across it when googling for info on whether garlic hit by allium leaf miner was salvageable. Sadly my entire harvest of my kitchen garden was hit; I had been hoping to cure the bulbs but quickly realized they were infested 😢 BUT thanks to your video I didn't chuck them out, instead I peeled them down and found the bulbs themselves were fine once peeled, so now I have a pile of garlic for the freezer! Thanks so much, really appreciate it! 🤗
Ahhh I’m so pleased you managed to save them! 🧄 👏
When your making your garlic puree you can fill up ice cube trays and freeze them in that then once they're frozen place them in freezer bags. I also do a basil and garlic puree and freeze them the same way.
Great tip!
Ideal
That’s an awesome idea to I think I’m gonna do that also thanks for sharing all that info
I think it has to be sealed else it might take the odour of other food stuff especially if you have fish in your freezer.
@@accaciagame1706 this is true and more likely to flavour everything with garlic. Also, you need a lot of ice cube trays if you have a big harvest. I find the bags stack easier and save space 👍🏻
5kg+ here! 🧄🧄🧄 Full of the leaf miner 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ So this is exactly what I’m doing tomorrow! Going to dehydrate some too!
If you have garlic that won't cure or store well you can roast them and make a garlic paste. Clean them, toss with a dash of olive oil, roast and then mash them with a little coarse salt. Pack the mash tightly into small jars and top with more oil to make an oxygen barrier. The mash will keep for months if stored in a cool dark place.
Lovely vlog - very much appreciated! If it helps - Allium leaf miner can apparently be alleviated (to some respect eliminated) by regular spraying with a soapy neem oil mixture. Here in the Nordics it is not as much a problem as white rot (due to our damp winters). If you want to ensure your garlic bulbs 'split' (for spring grown or like you, those planted in seedling trays/pots), you can put them in the fridge for a short period of of time (10 days) between 0 and 10 deg C and this will improve outcomes ('Vernalisation of Garlic").
Neem oil is banned in the Uk from what I know
Looks great.
You are a great inspiration. I am just starting and find your tips so helpful. Thank you.

Love these videos Katrina. It's my first year growing garlic so I'm very much looking forward to harvesting in the next week or so. Really enjoyed the tips about storage too.

Hi
I grew all elephant garlic this year, and I'm harvesting them soon 😻😻👍
Every one of your videos is so entertaining and informative.
Such a great video Katrina. Thank you. I’m now thinking of having a go at growing garlic.😁🧄🧄
Well done 👍
Great video, will try freezing method. Cheers!
Such an Amazing crop! Thank you for showing how you store it. I love the garlic paste method.👍
Great freezer tips
Thank you for showing how you process the garlic and store in the freezer. I was just thinking about what the different methods were. Blitzing it first is brilliant. This may be the first crop I attempt to grow....we will see. Thank you again, for all you do.
Thanks so much for sharing your harvest and how you freeze garlic! Growing garlic for the first time and this was really helpful ☺️🌿
Harvested my winter sown a few weeks ago, definitely too early from what you are saying. I will be leaving the spring planted in a good while longer. We live and learn :-) Thanks for the tips.
This is so nice i wish i can do it this year and i willl going to do it right now thanks for sharing 😊
Not sure the "hard frost" theory of multiple clove development. I live in Southern California. We get ZERO frost. Our coldest winter temperatures rarely go below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Yet, we get beautiful, multi-clove bulbs at harvest. Plant in late October, harvest late June. The only bulbs that don't split into multiple cloves are those I've tried to harvest too early. Most of the splitting seems to take place late in the growth cycle, regardless of temperatures. Gilroy, California, the "Garlic Capital of the World" is in the northern part of California's great Central Valley. No frost, very little cold weather. Bountiful garlic harvests.
Also, we cure our harvested garlic plants whole for at least two weeks prior to trimming and cleaning for long-term storage.
Nice video. Thanks!
lovely crop
Your garlic harvest is amazing and your advice of what to do with them is most helpful. It’s my first year of growing garlic, mine are in a pot and I didn’t plant them until March. Think after watching your video I will pull my mine out now. 🙂
You've got some huge garlic there. Wow!
Good tips thank you
Superb
Great and Amazing experience 🌷👍👍🌷
Nice harvesting 💕
Great video! I am attempting my first garlic planting this fall. Your video will come in handy with my first harvest next summer. See? I am confident that my first attempt will go well... Thank you for the great information!
Wow, amazing haul! Some as big as your hand. Great video and info on the garlic root miner and freezing technique. 👍🏻🧄🧄🧄🧄
Yes, I want to plant a “garlic lovers” variety of garlic too. 🥰🌿 I want to try and harvests garlic scapes for supper.
what a fantastic CZcams channel you have . Thank you for sharing & Happy New Year to you .
I didn't grow any garlic this year. I've had trouble keeping it for very long. I think your blitzing and freezing method might be my best solution for that, thank you for sharing. I'll be looking forward to planting it again this fall. : )
I'm not growing garlic but this was an interesting watch anyway and maybe some inspiration for the future
Homegrown garden.thank you share video.i very like your video
EXCELLENT video!! TY!!!
Thanks so much for this video. I now know what was burrowing into my leeks when I harvested a few weeks ago……peeled off the damage though and they were fine underneath. Made a lovely pie filling.
I have not grown garlic before. After watching I am going to give it a go in Fresno, California! Thank you.
Thank you soo much for the freezing tip..
My pleasure 😊
"chuffed". . . I have never heard that before, but I'm running with it now!
😁 Excellent video! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Five stars!
Pulled all my garlic today in Canada! It was my first time growing and while it wasn't as great a harvest as I would have liked, it was good and I'll have enough garlic for the winter.
Wow nice. Happy farming everyone Godbless
Fab video. Thanks. First time gardening for us and first go with garlic. Not looking good. Solent White. Checked a few weeks back. Really small and not much clove differentiation. Not harvested yet. Having another look today. Great storage ideas.
lovely video, you are such a delightful person, you were amazing, i have my own allotment and i love growing vegetables its such a rewarding hobby , you are fantastic !! i really enjoyed your vids
Thank you so much!
Great information. My first year growing Garlic. Elephant Garlic too. I like to make Honey Garlic and add Ginger root.
Great video- I learned a lot- I pulled my garlic a bit early but now I have found a worm in a clove- so I am going to freeze the lot as you showed- you may have saved the old mans bacon- well garlic- many many thanks
Also pulled a test bulb yesterday.... they are ready. 200 bulbs headed for drying off and then storage. Last years bounty is down to 15 bulbs so the timing is perfect. Everyone have a great gardening day!!!!
Pulled a tester yesterday and it’s good! Gonna pull the rest this weekend. The knife perforation tip is gold! Thanks!
You better be making a video on this too! Xx
I remembered this video from a couple of years ago and just thought to watch it again because I've had to pull my garlic oddly early as the stems have collapsed (slugs) and it was only then that I noticed I'd got leaf miners for the first time. My fault for not meshing them like I usually do. Anyway it all looks okay so I'll be freezing them, just means I can't trust any of the cloves to replant, I'll have to buy some new. Slightly worried about my shallots which are growing 2 feet away, they look ok though. Thanks for the tips!
Harvested my first real successful crop a few weeks ago in zone 9b Sacramento, California. 🙃 love that you included how you processed them 💖
Hi
Great video and tips thank u, I will be checking mine for leaf minor damage when I pull them up 😊
Great Job! Lovely harvest. Extremely large bulbs. I have 250 plants ready for harvest in a couple weeks here in the US zone 6a
Thanks Katrina, your smile is really infectious.
Hi
@@midhaeshaal9552 hi
@@nenzianwari How are you? And wr r u from?
Great harvest Katrina! I am growing 200 garlic this year (mostly to give away)...they are doing well. We don't have leaf miner hear in Nova Scotia ...so far! I am harvesting the scapes now and should be harvesting the garlic by mid July. The variety is porcelain music...which grows well in our colder climate...producing large bulbs. Cheers, Cameron
Almost to harvest here in Canada, going to pull one tomorrow to check, the lower leaves are looking ready!
🧄 Wow, that's a huge garlic harvest, amazing! I love eating garlic (fresh & cooked with the meal)! 😋 Definitely, I need to grow them this fall. Thanks for sharing! 👍 😊
