- Needed to run to the Indian store so I took Kimberly (Off Course). Decided to take the freeway for a bit just to be out there. During this ride an idiot crosses in front of me, I think I handled it well.
This was a great ride and I enjoyed the day. No more over thinking, just ride and have fun.
these Ak 550s sound so good at idle.
Great review about the scooter I think!
How it handles and it’s features
I learned so much about the bike now
Not to mention ur great explanation of highway traffic
Great job, I can tell your confidence in highway riding keeps going up. I need to start doing the same.
Thanks, soon we will be out there together
@@RiderGuy I can’t wait, we are going to discover all kinds of new roads my friend.
I just love the sidemirror placement of the AK. You don't have to turn your head to look, you just move your eyeballs.
I would never trust any bikes mirrors. I always turn my head.
@@thechosen5805 Then you will be wearing somebody's bumper across your face.....
@@jeffquickle3793 You have never taken a MSF course. Thats the first thing they teach you is to never rely on mirrors. Turn your head. Mirrors have blind spots! Rookie.
Freeways are like going to the dentist. Sometimes you gotta do it, but it isn't fun.
Directionally challenged eh? I travel all the lower 48, Canada, and Mexico with just a pocket atlas. Then I got a GPS and it ruined me. Of course I don't get lost as often, but I don't see new places as often either.....😎
I think all that green about 10 minutes before the end of the video is the most green I've seen in any of your videos. Looked nice there.
Yep especially here in California, we just don’t know what we are going to get. Mostly we get a lot of large objects just laying in the middle of the lanes. As always thanks for the kind comments.
thanks for the beautiful movie,,,
how far can i go with this bike, 150, 200 miles,, is it safe?
i want a long trip 660cc bike , i saw versys 660 and nc750x dct. Which one you recommend
thank you
happy day
hi nice video, can you share what mount you use for your ipas and how to install it, if you have time? thank you
Not sure what year your AK is, but I have the 2022. It holds almost 4 gallons of fuel. When the RED square starts blinking I ride a bit more before getting gas. But when I get the gas it only takes about 2 gallons. How can that be? Why would the RED square start blinking when the bike is only half empty?
You're going to want to get a phone GPS to tell your speed because scooters always have really optimistic speedometers. It may say 71 or 72, but it can easily be going 7-8 below that, so even below the speed limit.
I ride the grapevine with a BV 350 every so often. Doing it again this morning.
What's the phone mount? Could you put it in the description please :) Thanks!
hello nice video with your AK 550, I wanted to ask you the ram mount m10 balls screw them directly, that is, the handlebar has holes with thread or need a long screw and bolt underneath? I wonder why I have the same ram mount ball on the handlebar in the honda forza 350 threaded holes, I thought I would switch to kymco ak 550 but without navigator tomtom rider 550 I don't know how to stay so for me it matters to be able to put ram mount ball .. thanks
Hello, you will use a screw and bold underneath, it is very easy to mount and you have several ball options on Amazon that can mount easily. www.amazon.com/RAM-MOUNTS-RAM-B-252U-2-25-Motorcycle/dp/B0012TRIXU/ref=sr_1_4?crid=3IVE8IWQQG4YT&keywords=ram+bolt+with+10mm+hole&qid=1666289433&sprefix=ram+bolt+with+10mm+hole%2Caps%2C125&sr=8-4
On my Xciting 250 I pulled out the 4 bolts holding the handlebar mounts in place, machined an aluminum spacer, installed the RAM mounting ball on the spacer, then used slightly longer bolts to put it back together. There's an access plate in the plastic (at least on the xcitings) you can pop out to get access and connect the mounting arm / x--mount, so no plastic hackery or mutilation was required. If you go this route, MAKE SURE you get the same japanese automotive class bolts to put it back together and DO NO REUSE the old ones. The service manual explicitly calls out replacing the bolts when reassembling the handlebars and you do not want these bolts snapping on you because they're stretched.
I have a 2016 TMax and would love to buy another one but mad AF that they don’t make them or sell them I should say in the United States anymore. So definitely looking at the Kymco AK 550
I agree, I wish we had more options
@@RiderGuy There are no other good options! Unless you are willing to pay another $5000 for a bike that is either just as good as the AK or worse......
Thank you for the video bro, I bought my 2022 kymco 300x town and loved when riding on freeway. The top speed I got on it is 80 and I believe it would go faster but 80 is good for now😊. I heard the AK would go more than 80. I would like to know if you got at top speed and what did feel like😊? Hopefully my final scooter will the aka 550 . Thank you and have a good day, stay safe
The old Kymco Xciting 500 would definitely go at least 90mph, this bike has 40% more power and weighs less as well. But Kymco tunes these bike transmissions for highway speeds, the powerband on the 500 only kicked in at around 40mph, and it redlined at around 80mph, so its likely that this bike hits a governor before they hit the actual top speed of the bike.
How comfortable is the bike at highway speeds? The video doesn't really do justice. It looks fun, coming from a guy that has ridden motorcycles from a young age.
I left the power on my AK overnight and the battery was dead next morning. After jump starting the bike and going for a ride I noticed that my dash was showing Kilometers Per Hour instead of MPH....when I looked at the Kymco app and my settings it is set for MPH...but on the screen as I stated it is showing KMP....do you know what happened or how I can get it back to MPH?
I created a quick video just for you czcams.com/users/shortsDpGjPYOxtZo?feature=share
Let me know if it helps I set it as unlisted so use the link
You're lucky the dash didn't actually die. That dash is sensitive to power spikes especially from jumpstarting.
@@RiderGuy yes it worked for me thank you
Very nice Vlog! That thing has a Aggressive sound to it! Does it have Cruise Control?
No cruise control on this one. They do have a new model that does have cruise control, however that is not available in the United States
Exhaust sounds neat like the microphone is in there... any problems with the Ak 550..
I had one issue where I had a coolant leak. The mechanical seal had failed, however the manufacturer warranty ended up I covering it. I have not had any other issues.
What kinda phone mount is that, and do you like it?
I use the ram phone mount, www.rammount.com/part/RAM-HOL-PD3U
@@RiderGuy And where did you attach the RAM mount to? That is just not visible on the video.....great video by the way.. 🙂
I think for the price of $6299 that I paid for new 23 Xmax 300 ......it is a much better buy than the expensive heavy AK550 ... ..for what it offers more than the Xmax is not worth it !!!! It's almost twice the price ......for what ???? I don't see it !!!
Does the dashboard blink or it just looks like that?
It does not blink, it just appears that way on camera.
I am iffy about Scooters due to them being top heavy because they sit up high, not a low center of gravity due to the engine placement, the CVT, and definitely the small tires.
Actually it is the opposite, the it has a very low center of gravity. Most of the weight is very low. You can read about it here kymcousa.com/2021-scooters/2022-ak-550/
Scooters are very easy to ride. I had never ridden a street type of motorcycle or scooter until this. Also it has been 30 years since I was on Amy motorized bike.
I own a Kymco 150 and I don't see any difference in any other bike get a tape measure out and measure a regular bike compared to a scooter it's about the same.
This bike, the AK 550 does not sit up high....surely you have not looked at them up close....and it is the most balanced bike on the planet......you really need to ride one before making these comments
Most maxi-scooters have the weight near the ground, the transmission and engine are close to the ground, just like "regular" motorcycles. You only had the high center of gravity on the mopeds that were designed in the 1980's and earlier, they would mount the engine and fuel tank a lot higher as they were originally based on bicycle designs.
How come you don't lane split?
Because lane splitting is a high risk (a.k.a. dumb) maneuver?
You lane split so you don’t get rear ended on your bike dude.@@glenndoiron9317
running your high beams on all the time will drain ya battery quicker its what happend with my honda adv 150 before i gave it away lol
