Yo Sushpants, it's Taye with the Suzuki Swift Sport. So rad to see the JDM Corolla! Consider a Fujitsubo exhaust since they can be made by request for older vehicles. Would take a bit of time and bit more dosh but it will be oh so worth it
God dude, that is a showstopper. JDM perfection right there, I really love, it. These kind of AE86-like mid 80's Toyotas go for SO MUCH now. Best I could do was an 88' Supra which is the inverse of everything that this is, but I still adore it. Keep her looking nice! EDIT: Your brights problem is the stock controller and likely connected module. I have the same one in my Sup and she will flicker/short sometimes while signaling. with a polarity inverter I now do not have brights, but at least the lights work mostly. Props for Shinobi on the model 1 :)
That's a really nice car. I hope you bring it back around to it's former glory. The UK spec MR2 got a lot of JDM goodness, such as the 128hp engine as we didn't have cats until 1993. Also meaning it uses the MAP sensor and no flappy thing.. We got the electric windows, mirrors and locks. I should imagine it has a higher redline too, I need to check that.
Greetings from South Africa. Nice having seeing new content. Currently rebuilding an ee80 which is the 4 door version which came out with a 1300cc. I wana encourage you to bring us more content to keep us enthusiasts inspired.
Most power steering systems can take ATF4 fluid instead of dedicated PS fluid. A Varex Muffler is what I recommend. Adjustable straight through oval or canister style mufflers.
I have the same exact radio in my JDM AE86 Trueno. The 85 Celica Supra had the same exact radio but had a Black chrome look and US radio frequencies, so I bought a USDM radio one and swapped the silver panel and buttons over. Now I have my ae86 optional factory radio look with working cassette and US frequencies. Great video!
A lot of identical parts used in the ae86's, like the sunroof controls and the interior light. If the sunroof is the same spec as the ae86 one there's both fibreglass and carbon fibre replacement panels available and you can get new rubber seals still too. Just for reference the AE86 sunroof opening hole is 785mm x 385mm.
My Toyota sienna minivan circa 2002, had the dreaded power steering noise and it was leaking. I flushed and refilled with ATF first, still noise, poured in 1/3 bottle of Blue Devil stop leak per instructions, leak and noise all gone! I definitely recommend this treatment, Even though you don't have the leak, it still made the steering pump quiet.😁 Nice car, I love these early Japanese vehicles. Congrats.
It must be so cool to have both top trims of the AE82 FX chassis for the US and Japan. The GTS looks more classic Toyota, but the FX-GT just looks cooler inside and out.
Great car. I would recommend repairing the exhaust, there's something so special about the original note of the engine when it was new. Newer aftermarket exhaust will make it sound like any other 4AGE...
Though the novelty of that flare is surely cool, I've heard of old flares lighting in high temperature environments. Not sure if it's true but definitely worth looking into.
The centre dome light will just have dry contacts between the switch and the cable connector which are normally connected through a rivet. Between the upper and lower pieces of the plastic use a centre punch on the rivet should reconnect the interior light Additional the two coin holders are most likely provisions for heated seat control
I wonder if people here in the states are gonna bother you about it being front wheel drive .As an EJ Civic fanatic ( EJ1& EJ8) I feel the same about my cars as you do about your FXs. I don't care what people think especially since I have double wishbone suspension all around. I think you're the main reason why I respect the 4AGE engine. I think it was you who had a series against an EG and won in every metric. I respect how fast 4AGEs gain and lose revs..as seen in your videos. I'm not sure why if the stroke is shorter than honda stuff or the flywheel is lighter.
I've had some people try to make poke fun at it being FWD but it doesn't bother me. I think that FWD cars a really fun and can easily handle the power at sub 200hp. EJ Civics are sick as hell. I like those a lot :D
Didn't get that particular body shape in South Africa, we got the 5 door, known as the Conquest, the 4 door Corolla and semi-hatch/notchback Avante..all came with 2E 1300, 4A 1600 and 4AGE Twincam 16v engines
Glad you showed off all the cool seat features, that the first thing I thought about. Have 2 of these ae82s fxgts in New Zealand and know of 3 others who also have 2!! Needs a factory gear knob, I consider myself lucky that I have wind up windows far less maintenance and less parts worries

What a beautiful car, for the sunroof, you will be able to restore the seals, it's easy :) Just degrease them with a good degreaser, and use a product that is called "Gummi pflege stift" it's just AMAZING, I own a Daihatsu Copen and I use it twice a year to re-do my seals for the convertible top and doors, and it works wonder. Lube up the rails and you should be set, do that every winter and it should be fine :) That's at least what I want to do with my future AE86 from Japan if I got one with the same sunroof
Dude nice car! Love those 80’s Carolla’s. Kind of interesting that it was competing with its own sibling the AE86. Kind of think I like this Carolla much better!! Handling is better than the 86? Anyway I love your graphics. Hilarious
remember the JIS power numbers are also more generous than DIN or SAE i believe at the time, i think a comparable 80s honda ZC, similar to the 4age, is like 135ps (about 133hp) JIS rated but only 127hp DIN in europe (probably different tuning but still different standard and close)
I predict a future video... A showdown between "stock" and "modified." At first glance, this may seem silly, but has the modification journey meant it has lost some of the original character of the car? Or, has it enhanced it? Only Sushpants can answer with honesty as he has the capacity to do a back-to-back comparison.
To close the sun roof you have to press the button and the other side of the close switch. I brought my ae91 fxgt and on the way hole i opened the sun roof and pushing close it wouldnt close haha i had to call the guy i brought it off in shame 😂
The T-top AW11 would like to have a discussion about who has it worse with no AC. 😄 Nano-ceramic tint does wonders to mitigate how warm the it gets without AC.

The difference in power ratings is a result of Net vs Gross hp, in other words it was measured differently. You will notice the power level goes down in later JDM 4AGE even though they still dont have an AFM.

The power difference and tune on JDM cars is also often accountable to fuel ratings.
Cool unique features. The bumpers are so much better looking than the US version. It makes a ton of difference
Cheers for the shout-out bro. Thanks for the video.
I think you need to turn the drivers side strut hat around so it matches the passenger side. Will help the steering.

Find a full Titanium exhaust from something and cut it up and re-weld it to make it fit
Try some silicone spray for the passenger window maybe even the sticky locks.

Are you sure the steering play isn't due to worn rubber in the break-away part of the steering shaft? This is a common issue in AW11s.
It definitely was the tierod ends. The steering is fixed now in the FXGT.
