- Hoping we can blend the new paint with the old patina… after we finished it looked really shiny compared to the original so we may try sanding it down with 400 grit after it dries so that it can have a dull finish instead of the shine ✨

I don't know if you price paint lately but product went way up.
Then you do all the work to paint it and spend that much cash then necks and scratches, people touching sitting, leaning on it. Kids playing catch with the football around your freshly painted car.
If the next fella wants to take it to a $ 20,000k level body and paint then all the bright work to the bumpers and inside the bill even goes higher to a 5-8k car?
Well if you’re in the industry just have to go with it I assume Jolene car going to be brunch painted

Read some of the comments on people remembering when they were little helping hand paint grandpa’s old car or tractor. That’s exactly what they did back then, out in the country side or farm lands. You made it last because you couldn’t afford a new car and were glad just to have a car. Most families only had one car or truck, so you took care of it.
Watching Chad and Jolene brush painting the car, brought back memories of helping my Grandfather's old powder blue Plymouth. It was banged up a bit and rusting. Every year he would call me to come up and hand paint the car with a brush. He would go buy a gallon of paint and a brush and let me have at it. I was about 10 years old. He would sit on a lawn chair drinking a beer and supervising. Get memories.

Mini rollers would work much better I painted a Chevy pickup with a mini roller came out pretty nice with no brush lines

Painted a few of my early cars with a brush, a 49 Ford and a 52 Chevy, took my time and bought a really good 2 inch brush. Waited 2 weeks, then compounded it with light compound, took out the brushed look. At 20 feet it looked great !

I love the car patchy paint job and all, wicked character and you saved most of the patina. You got it right it shouldn’t be fully painted. When you tone down the sheen it will be fine. The profile is nice like Jolene said.Just remember wonce you dodge all the haters and arm chair warrior comments,what is most important is that what you did is How you and Jolene wanted your project to end up like. I see it made you Happy. I sure many others will love it too. Please take it for a drive when it’s finished so can see her in all her glory.

What amazes me the most about chad is how he can see something before hand. To see something that’s such a big job in your head then do it amazes me

Should of painted in brown first then green over the top that way if you go through the sanding it will look like rust
I remembering my Dad and Grandpa painting Grandpas ole truck. It was a 46 Chevy truck and they painted it black and with brushes. Chad and Jolene you are both so good at what you do.
Actually the painted green matches the car nicely!!! When you sand it down it should blend right in!!!
Sanding will give it the quick blend, the sun will dull it naturally. Well at least in California the sun burns paint quick if you don't wax your car often.
I left my new tool box out side and the black paint went dull real quick look like it's been sitting out side for years, but it only sat out for maybe a year or two. I have to add paint from the rain water dripping on the bottom of the tool box. It's one of those Hourbor freight tool chest they say it's powder coated, it's not because it came off the bottom of the box. Powder coating is made to be baried under ground and not let pips get rusted out.
Oh back to the 1938 coupe came out great. 👍🏽

I think I would put some paint on the trunk lid so it doesn’t rust solid and look so out of place but all in all I really like it
I was thinking he could paint the deck lid white to match the roof.....I think that would bring it all together. That bare metal looks out of place to me, but maybe outside it'll look differently. No judgement or condemnation at all, just my thoughts....
Should've bought some new mimi paint rollers....at least new brushes.

IMHO. I think the car is very cool. As always I’m amazed at your level of craftsmanship, you don’t have a shop full of super expensive dedicated tools. It could have been a disaster considering how deep the project went. And yet, here you are with a car that’s 100 times

Marine enamel would be best rolling or brush, it smoothes out pretty good

Funny story my old man RIP ❤ had a 78 Pontiac Grand Prix it was green and starting to rust up in the early 90's and he decided to go down to the hardware store and get some paint and a brush to paint it up, so he got red paint and his sight wasn't the best as he was getting old. I was already moved out with my girlfriend at 18 anyways the car came out hot pink.🤣 My mom was pissed so I ended up having to spray it black for them because my mother would not be seen in it. Ahhh good times! 😉✌

Looking great. Top job guys. I have used pot cleaners to scuff the paint.
Never use those cheap $0.50-80 cent brushes. Always use good quality brushes.

The single thing that saved this build is the roof and doors. That roof makes this car very special. I'd paint it black. Whole car like a diamond. It's got perfect proportions....deserves a tuxedo.

I still like the car's shape and roof line is cool!! After you sand the paint it will look better!! It almost looks like a 41 Willy's coupe!!!
The car looks great , I just think a little finesse here and there would not cost more or take more time, but would make a big difference in the look, between crude and well done.
If you warm the paint, it flows without leaving brush marks.
Must be hard to have him say it looks good then he comes over to redo it right in front of her. Next time she should say do it yourself you will anyway.

That thing came out great good job
i PAINTED SMALL parts of my 1933 ford with a very small roller.Then sanded with 1200 wet sandpaper, then polished with paste wax..looks great. If the colors don't perfectly match, go back and use a polishing compound to improve the color then paste wax again, you will eventually get the match.

Hi Chad & Jolene, I hope everyone is doing well although it sounded like Chad had the sniffles. Chad I am not an expert at brush painting but, my brother did have his own painting company and I helped him once in a while. On the bigger areas a 1 1/2" or a 2" brush would work better, especially since you are supposed to only paint in one direction. That is why the bristles were coming out of your brush you were scrubbing with it along with the quality of the brush. I hope you do not mind the tips on brush painting as I have learned about painting with a spray gun from you! Jolene it was nice to see you helping with the project for a change it is always nice to watch you two working together. We do rely on you for the best camera work on CZcams but, I believe like myself, that others miss seeing you on the projects. Be back tomorrow to find out the big boo boo!
I thought Chad bought a whole passel of Cheap Throw-Away Paint Guns. Looks like he would use up a few to paint on this one. Better than a brush, even if it was still a botched up job. If that is Enamel based paint, it won't be cured for several weeks enough to wet sand right. It will gum up in the paper and roll up and be a mess. I have had it happen to me in the early days learning how to paint. You can add a dryer to it that speeds up the cure, but it still takes time to set up.

Patina is another word for being too lazy to paint it.
Chad has always operated on a tight budget. He likes old or second hand cars, signs, and machine tools. Maybe that was how he was raised. I don't know.

QUESTION> With the louvers on the top... What prevents water from entering the car?You didn't put a shield inside the car to prevent it.
No one is ever going to drive it .

Going forward at speed, the wind will blow rain away from the louver openings. Just never go in reverse in the rain.
A drip tray under the louver roof made to look like a headliner will keep the interior dry if it rains.
When it rains water will be coming in from all the louvers. Full rain gear is needed, hat, coat, the works. Oh, and mildew eventually. Roof louvers are a very, very bad idea.
That green paint is a nice color and if it were me I'd get a gallon of green and a quart of cream white and a couple really good paint brushes and as much work done to it I'd paint it in full color and make it shine and in a couple weeks after it's cured I clear coat it and on the wheels I'd paint the spoke part yellow and polish the chrome caps and it be a looker for sure then!!!
Beautiful Job! Looks like a Vintage homemade Patina Coupe from the Great Depression Era that was fabricated on a farm in Kansas.

It’s been a lot of fun with this build. Nowadays old classics like woody’s, model As and the like have lost about half their value because of the lack of interest in them. So why not have some fun and get some value from an old car that the previous owner was willing to give it away because that was the value of the car.
I worked at a used car lot in the late 70s, we would use equipment enamel, and do two light medium coats with a brush, sand the brush marks the next day and spray a quick coat of polyurethane on and they looked great,,

Try using one of those green colored scotchbrites to blend the paint dull the shine see how that works
