I remember back in the early 70's, in the days when parents could actually afford to take their children to the seaside for the day by train, there was a special service, which operated during the school summer holidays, via the Sidcup line (all stations) through to Ramsgate. There was also a special fare which required the outward journey to be made using only this train but passengers could return by any train the same day. This train was so popular that the 10 coach train (usually formed of 2HAP units) was often full. I am wondering of these special trains were introduced following the withdrawal of the hourly headcode 82 Charing Cross - Ramsgate via Dartford services (in 1974?) or if they existed prior to that?

For anyone wondering, this is a usual summer special. Sometimes it starts from Dartford too. It uses both the Hitachi and Metro Cammell stock on it.

There's a new Cannon Street service that goes to Rochester via Bexleyheath on a weekday, when I rode on it it was 466036/465195/465015.

I’ve done the Dartford to Faversham section of this route on TSW3

This has got to be strong contender for the train service with the most stops! Didnt know it existed! Is it going to be back next year?

It should be, provided Southeastern don't cut more services to the level that they've been doing recently.

It did come back with two
      Different services!
1: Cannon Street to Ramsgate, London Bridge fast to Lewisham, all stations to Dartford via Blackheath & Woolwich, then Greenhithe, Gravesend, Strood, Medway, Faversham, Whitstable, Herne Bay then Thanet
2: London Victoria to Ramsgate, fast to Lewisham, Blackheath, Charlton, Woolwich Arsenal, Plumstead, Abbey Wokd, Slade Green, Dartford, Gravesend, Strood, Medway, Faversham, Whitstable, Herne Bay then Thanet.
These services to Ramsgate via Woolwich were a regular feature in the timetable until the early 1990s, after which all Thanet trains were routed via Bromley during this era, and the Woolwich service was cut back to Gillingham, but every summer, SE run this historic service as an excursion.
There used to be another SE summer excursion from Blackfriars to Ramsgate which called at Elephant, Denmark Hill, Peckham Rye, Catford, Bellingham, Shortlands, Bromley South then fast to Rochester, and selected stations from that point.

@@JayJay-nc7pr The hourly headcode 82 service from Charing Cross to Ramsgate/Maidstone West via Woolwich (dividing at Strood) with the Maidstone West portion withdrawn sometime in the late 60's, was actually cut back to Gillingham in 1974 or 1975, not the early 1990's. It was Charing Cross, Waterloo East, London Bridge, Woolwich Arsenal, Dartford, Gravesend, Strood then all stations to Ramsgate. From 1974 or 1975 it was changed to a half-hourly service, cut back to Gillingham, changed to inner-suburban stock without 1st class and re-routed via Lewisham with extra stops added at Lewisham, Blackheath and Abbey Wood and re-designated as headcode 62.

This year it will go via Lewisham instead through Greenwich.

Why were the Calss 375s in that video between Strood and Gravesend on the North Kent Line? I thought the services to Ramsgate on the North Kent Line during the Summer holidays are normally worked by Class 465/466 Networkers

Very interesting, but oh so noisy, hope the rest of the train is quieter.

The whole train is noisy. Your better off getting southeastern high speed from st pancras to ramsgate, its much quieter and faster

these 465s do not really suit the regional services tbh

It’s an annual summer special service, sometimes it starts from Dartford
