- Foni Pehalwan is a legend in Varanasi. There are videos online where he's swinging a 50kg gada. I was honoured that he would look at my gada swings. Now, I've been to India 2 time before and had had some indian trainers look at my swing. But still I learned something new!! He's not only a GOAT, he also is one of the adorable and funniest indian I've met.

I'm understand the language.
What they're saying is that since you're psysicslly strong you're being able to get away with some lapses in the technique.
He recommends you keep your head in front of your center of gravity (that would be the line going across your hips (laterally).
By looking down the entire time you will be in that position through the movement.
Great to see you getting out and visiting these guys. There's a world of knowledge in places where the art has been passed down for ages.
Ram Ram buddy - this is an awesome video. There is some sort of poetry in the fact that an Indian in Canada (me) is learning his gada swing from the video of a Dutchman in Varanasi!
A Sudhakaran haha, love this comment!
@@TheFlowingDutchman @A Sudhakaran also learn this , this is also an amazing exercise which gives ture strength i.e. core strength . My ancestors would lift it nd they were very powerful nd agile .

Where in Varanasi is this place, I'll learn gada when i go there.
there's a bit of swinging lesson in this car horn compilation video
I am an Indian and I don't find it offensive....LoL😂
It would drive me crazy, how can you get into a nice gada flow with that incessant noise.
@@denariusshekels only a man of focus and sheer will can
Someone very wise once told me that is is pretty easy to find calm and peace in the same environment but to find it in chaos is a true art.
I didn't even notice the horns. You will receive from life what you focus on.
Man u are way more then any young Indian including me would ever do for our culture....thanks u budddy
Poni pehlawan : GOAT of gada
Hanuma Ji: Hold my gada
No one's able to hold his gada
So sick of this hold my beer comments
Foni himself is great bhakt of hanuman there was a video of him worshipping hanuman ji during naag panchmi gada competition.
I use a sledgehammer and construction scrap instead of Gada. And I like Kushti exercises more than Navy SEAL drill. Traditional Indian fitness is part of the great cultural heritage of ancient India. From Moscow with love.
if you look closely each muscle set of the arm , shoulder all in all entire upper body is getting tension ,,, this is all rounder ancient efficient workout ! thanks to our ancestors
I was not even aware of these ancient arts being practiced to this date in India on different locations until I watched your videos. One free world. Different manifestations. May all be free and happy.🙌
The gada has been a tool for ages. My grandfather used to wrestle in his youth, and he used to train with a gada.
Through the flowing dutchman, Foni Pahelwan gave lessons for all of us

I love this training method. Looks simple but so much wisdom in it.
Yesss
best tip ever. " ONLY GROUND SIR"
The act of blessing and respect shown to the equipment is amazing
The national bird of India is the car horn.
Well said
At the end he (Pehlwan Foni) was saying that since now Gada is heavy, ur neck is automatically looking at the ground and this is how it should be all the time no matter if its lighter weight or heavier
Acha, yes Pratyay told me this too. Very interesting if you want to go very big weights, but not really applicable to the mace.
He is saying .... “ now that the weight isn’t heavy you won’t realise the correct form however once you lift a heavy one you would understand. As a best practice you need to keep ur head down at all times”
Happy lifting 🙏
@@TheFlowingDutchman Actually the advice is equivalent to the good forms in the gym. No matter how light the weight is you always maintain a good form. The reason you keep your head low is to prevent sudden cramping and maintain the balance. You get dizzy when you start looking up while swinging the equipment. Also, the "Gada" was inspired from a hammer and you hit things on the ground with hammer. So you need to focus on your target on the ground because you can't hit something in the sky with the hammer, right?
Also, since the centre of gravity is lower with this specific equipment and you are swinging behind you, always look forward and down to the maintain your body balance. Once you look up your balance shift backwards and you are likely to fall on your back.
Another thing which everyone ignore about this specific thing. It was used in the war. A war when there were no guns and swords were rarely used. Your skills are not dependent on how heavy you can lift. It was dependent on how heavy you can swing with proper balance and how much force you can execute to hit your target. Lifting heavy and not being able to hit someone with it is useless.

Such a fantastic video!! The sounds of India, a magically different place to the west 🇮🇳
@flowing Dutchman, the pehlwan touched the gada and then touched his head (around 2.40). This is generally a mark of respect for the tools one uses. It’s his way of showing respect for his tools and his profession.
Thanks to you for showcasing this culture to the world.
Hey Nice try buddy. This art is ancient one the body will become like iron and the person will have more stamina too. it is not that easy if someone think what is in it.
It’s true a small gada is capable of making a person really strong
The bang sound when you kept gada on your shoulder that's 💥👏
Looking at the ground makes the movement much more martial and integrated. Very cool.

You are awesome bro... I just got my 1st gada and I messed up because, I got a 7 kilo gada and it is pretty hard even for only 7 kilo. I am constantly watching all your gada videos. Thank you sir.
Yes, 7kg is already pretty heavy when you start!
I am from varanasi and nice to see a foreigner learning indian style..
It was perfect explanation by my fellow Indian 💕👏👏
Great man comes from great places ❤🇮🇳
this is new to me...an interesting way to convey sum fundamental things regarding weight manipulation and force. most boxers know these principals...the drop step jab is a good analogy i believe.
Its not dying art, these are the arts of existence of universe.
Wow, amazing, I never thought this movement was possible with a stone attached to a stick
Saw your vids for the first time today. I really like your content and I love training with mace bells!
Wish I had a training partner who shares my enthusiasm :-D
Awesome, love form New Delhi, India.
Those horns in the background speak a language of their own.

Mt delts : what's your problem bruh !!
good to see you there mate ! let me translate a few Hindi words for you, they are really from the mouth of of an experienced man - The coach says teech him that with mace , you have to swing your neck too, that way it will be easy, and can lift more weight. The visitor has good power, with smaller mace, he will not understand, what does it it mean ( just like the hair of a dick - it is a slang , means nothing) :) ha ha, any way, .. after the visitor lifts heavyier one , the guru says, .. watch with heavy mace, he is turning his head differently, rather than with the lighter one. however the mace is not touching shoulder, and it is 50% with a heavier one, it will automatically touch the shoulder.
Thanks,Pahalwan ji ( Deepak Ansuia Prasad Bhardwaj)

Awesome video...much thanks
3:21 that happy look by the trainer after he has shown to the youtuber how it's done.
I don't know if there is some content online about this topic. If so, I apologize
There is a detail I just noticed when Foni Pehalwan is swinging the Mace. It looks like he is straightening one leg alternating when swinging. When he swings clockwise, he straightens his left knee/leg, when he is swinging counter clockwise, it's his right leg straightening. But it is just at the end of the pull to the front. Its just a guess, that hes doing it, because he is used to move very heavy maces.
But I just experimented with my leg movement during workout and noticed something interesting. Usually I stand with my knees almost straight. Just unlocked so that the muscles can work and you stand firm but somehow flexible, like The Flowing Dutchman Stand. ;)
Then I tried to "lock" my knees like Foni Pehalwan in the end of the "front pull". And man...it generates some power! It's not even the locking of the knees, but the unlocking when starting to swing. It feels like a small dip, which really increases power! It almost feels like the dip/bounce in a deep squat or the dip initiating the jerk in Olympic weightlifting. You start to swing, slightly bend the knee, tiny dip down, and when the mace passes its lowest point, you start pushing with your leg to straighten it again, oppsite side. Looks like he is leaning alternating to one side 'excessively'.
Perhaps this could be interesting for very heavy mace swinging! It feels very stable, secure and hugely powerful! Imagine a 'boom' (in the sense of tightening up the body when straightening the leg, and then releasing and heading to the next BOOM on the oppsite side).
Great feeling!
Hope you guys understand what I meant to explain here. :)
Keep up the good work! I really enjoy your channel and youtube content.
Love to all
Cool video. What is this mace swinging for? Wrestling? Martial art? Strength?
Gada Is Awesome. Great Tips. Watching The Ground Would Be Better Also For The Spine I Reckon. Good Video.
pretty good core workout!
GADA get one!!
i’ll see myself out
I see what you did there.
That traffic sounds lovely to drive in...
Actually one of some channels that actually need to come to India for their need and not for indian audience only!
Ha! I was aiming at a western audience when coming to india, not knowing I would attract many indians to my channel ;)
@@TheFlowingDutchman i also belong to this akhada and the thing is i find this kind of videos pretty satisfying and feel proud please keep it up and maybe through your videos both indians and western people will be excited to try this. hope to see u next time u r in varanasi.( name - sourav)

Great sir yu modern the Indians culture
Thank you for sharing I will incorporate that to my workout regime , you were trying to swing the mace like you would do with an ax , but , is more like a whole upper body movement , nonetheless excellent video .
You are definitely a quick learner.

that looks intense man
Wow, amazing
It gives good triceps and shoulder workout
Does the bar touch the top of your shoulder at the end of your swing (i guess the 360 swing?)
bro make a video on benefits of gada training!
Posture nut checking in here, i suppose this is 3y after the fact and you likely already know this, but i think the encouragement to look downward is to help align the upper and mid spine to allow for more full engagement of the core. Like trying to push something forward with ones chin vs the top of ones head (with feet planted), chin tucked provides for a much longer lever arm.
You were my first find when looking for authentic gada techniques after having my feed flooded with white men swinging "macebells." Looks like an incredibly valuable tool, so i like to use the most authentic traditions possible 👌
Best thing was touching the Gada nd then with head..... I will also add this in my workout.....It's also sign of respect to the Gada.....
3:36 what a timing of that firecracker
Sultans of Swing
Jai hind 🙏
Excellent
U were saying about getting lower back pain because u are not bending forward or looking below which is preventing u to maintain centre of gravity . Thats the reason.
Vikings: "We run into battle with hammers and axes"
Indians: "Lol, you see this?" - wields a massive three foot long heavy mace with one hand.
Vikings: "Understandable, have a nice day"
Indian also did battle with axe but not much as Vikings
The viking axe would already impale indian head while the gada is being swung
@@adhamanugrahmuhajir6408and then the little party would be overwhelmed by thousands upon thousands upon thousands of soldiers. The Vikings wrecked the English, French, and a few Islamic folks though (not to mention taking over western Russia). More likely, Vikings and Indians would be friends!

it's important to twist the body and look down, That's when you can get the correct form.
the volume was a little bit low, why do you have to look at the ground while swinging? And should you only look with your eyes or tilt your head to the ground?
