Remember how we used to say Grandpa strikes up conversations with everyone he comes across? He'd be sitting on a bench and before you know it he would sharing life stories with a stranger. Maybe we are just getting older and less focused on running hard and more focused on enjoying life - like Grandpa was.
Regarding the checkout lanes, once when they asked if I found everything I was looking for, I said no casually and they just kept ringing the order and didn't say anything. So even when they do ask , it's usually part of a repetitive routine they're required to perform and they're not really present in the conversation. Sometimes I will make a joke about something to pull them out of it and hopefully make their day just a little bit better as I know those jobs can be life-sucking.

Grandpa would be so proud of us. I try really hard to brighten the day of those I encounter. It's hard to not reply when asked about everything okay with, "Does it matter? Are you going to order what I didn't find?" 🤣 Brad did look spiffy in my purple cat-eye glasses, didn't he? 🙃
