      Charlie Mike how do you feel about the pace and lifestyle of the SF guard? I’m considering joining the guard so my wife can stay in the state we reside in, where her family is as well. My thinking is it would provide some stability. I’m cautious concerning pay, training and deployments. Also, what do group guys do during down time - what civilian jobs are common - would a civilian job be necessary for the pay? Thanks for reading this.

    • @charliemike13
      @charliemike13 Před 3 lety +2

      @@hawkeye4469 A lot of the guys are former full time guys, however there are also a lot of cops and firefighters that become SF as well. There are other jobs too, I’m just saying what is most common. If you want to serve and stay where you are and be around more often the Guard is a great way to do that. Things have slowed down a lot as far as overseas. Also, depending on where you are, you’ll have to see where the closest SF unit to you is located. Not every state has an SF component. The standards don’t change because of being in the Guard, so if you go SF in the Guard you’ll be more busy than a traditional guardsmen, but that’s not uncommon and is true for officers and other mos folks too. You’ll be away from your wife a fair amount, especially in the beginning, due to schools and training.

    His story about the humvee is exactly my experience as well. I got a deuce and half, 5 ton and 44 man bus license literally learning how to start it. Within an hour I’m rocking up the highway in a 5 ton. Ironically, to get an atv license required a 3 Fucking day course. Gotta love the military. Also the new haircut looks rad. You have the right shaped head bro.

    I got sent to the 82nd as a SFAS drop. I hated it, i felt like i took a wrong turn in life. I was equally met in hate by my leadership for wearing the pisspot patch. I felt like a fucking prisoner tying to escape. Then my unit got orders to deploy into iraq. We did some incredible things out there and i found a new love for my division and my unit.

    Young people don't understand what the 80s and 90s were like. People got into fist fights... it was still deviant behavior, but people didn't argue and troll online...when people disagreed or got rude, it very well could break out in a scuffle. It wasn't nearly as big of deal as it is now.

      @@Honey_Daddy not really. Not like 20 years ago. In the past five years: ive literally watched a 22yo coworker freeze, freeze when he got punched. And this isnt some skinny jeans wearing soyboy. I myself got banned from the gas station by my house for smacking a crackhead who got crazy with me after I told it, it couldn't have money. Now imagine either of those scenarios 20 Yeats ago.

    • @Honey_Daddy
      @Honey_Daddy Před 8 měsíci

      @@brianc9374 freezing is one of our 3 natural instincts. Fight, flee, freeze. Some people are fighters. Some are trained to fight. Some are runners. Others are freezers. He must be a freezer. And 20 years ago trespassing people for physical altercations was a thing that happened. It wasnt as dramatically different as sometimes people like to paint it. People are still people and will do similar things, even after the advent of the internet and its proliferation into every home and pocket in the developed world (and many in the third world). I understand romanticising the past because its intangible, but back then old timers said the same thing about the 60s and 70s, and it wasnt any more true. Human nature is timeless. We are just more easilynconnected by the internet, so we hear about more things happening more regularly, but it happened before and will continue to. All of it.

The problem with podcasts' audio (not just yours) with people calling in is 95% of the time the guest doesn't have a podcast-friendly setup... like Caleb here. Maybe you could gently nudge guests in the right direction to be in a non-echoey room (e.g. not the kitchen) and somewhere the sound doesn't reverberate as much? Awesome podcast though, the Team House has helped me maintain my sanity on a number of occasions.
