- Los Angeles put himself in the Derby picture with victory in the Cashel Palace Hotel Derby Trial Stakes at Leopardstown.
The Camelot colt was unbeaten at two, winning a Tipperary maiden and then bowing out for the season at the top level when taking the Group One Criterium de Saint-Cloud in October.
He returned to action as one of two Aidan O’Brien-trained horses in the Leopardstown Group Three, starting as the 4-5 favourite under Wayne Lordan as Declan McDonogh took the ride on stablemate Euphoric.
After racing in midfield, the three-year-old began to progress as the race reached the halfway stage and challenged for the lead two furlongs from home.
From there he edged past Euphoric on the inside rail and held off Dermot Weld’s Taraj to prevail by a length and shrink his price for the Derby from 20-1 to 10-1 with Coral.
Aidan O’Brien’s stable representative Chris Armstrong said: “It was great to get him out. Obviously he won his maiden first time in Tipperary and then stepped up quickly enough to the race in France.
“Both his runs last year were on an easier surface, so it’s great to get him out here. He’s carrying a bit more condition and the run is going to bring him on a ton.
“When he steps up again to a mile and a half he’ll improve and he’s right now bang in the Derby picture. He’s very exciting.
“The second horse ran a cracker as well and once he goes up in trip again he’ll improve a lot. The second horse is a very solid horse.”
Of the winner, Armstrong added: “He only had the two runs under his belt at two, which came in quite quick succession.
“I’d say he’s still quite raw and he’ll come on mentally and physically. He’s one to look forward to for the Derby.
“He’s got the pedigree. He’s by Camelot, where he gets the stamina.
“He’s a big horse but he’s a beautiful mover and he’s got the right mind. You could see him walking around the paddock beforehand, absolutely chilled and he has the same attitude at home.
“Camelot obviously went around there (Epsom) no problem and this horse has a lot of his good sire traits. He can travel away and the big improvement will be when he goes up to the mile and a half.”

What was his time compared to previous runnings of this race?
Euphoric is by Frankel. He's my E/W bet for the Derby. If he's placed i will be euphoric.
Cringe
No cringe epic 😂
@@Martin.Lewis.. Remember Onesto in last year's Arc? ...of course you do.
nice big gamely horse defo has that heavyweight action about him could be nice for the mile and half but has that turn of foot and big stride too.
Listen to the jockey, other comments aren’t worth anything
First run this year and Won going away slightly. Will Definitely run better over further - and it’s a horse by Camelot so definitely not to be dismissed on breeding
Aidan o brien s owners must be running out of usa place names .
There's more than a touch of yank backside kissing about the naming of some their horses.
compton .the hood
Nice looking horse, but a potential Derby winner? The only chance he would have if it came up a bog on Derby day. He just doesn't have the required speed.
He does remind me of Arrest obviously not the same sire. But both are beautiful colts. Also ran in France at 2.
Who knows maybe LA might develop more of course.
The only chance he would have of wi nning the Derby is if he started now.
So give us the winner ?
@@derekwilliams7901 tell us the winner of the derby.
@@baazzaachunck5302 I will when I know what the going will be. Watch this space.
Workmanlike display. He should be around 16s for Epsom.
Los Angeles has now won 2 of the most unproductive races in terms of 3yo classic success (the Gran Criterium & Derrinstown Trial); 15 years ago now, Fame and Glory is the last winner of both to put together a good 3yo campaign, but he really blossomed as an older horse; Irish Derby, Great Voltigeur, St. Leger, Canadian International the way to go this year & keep your fingers crossed Ballydoyle can keep him together for a 4yo campaign.
Be surprised if he turns out good enough to be competitive in the Derby. The way they finished in a heap makes the form questionable for me, albeit he looks a fine big type. Maybe a future stayer?
Great Shame about the Chester Vase winner. He was IT
Yes, Hidden Word was really impressive. Such a tragedy that he broke down so badly, horse racing can be so cruel at times.
We lost a really good horse there tragic
But a S and H with the IT then you have exactly what he was!
@@Martin.Lewis..
You have I'm sure some objectively measured analytical data which you can share to support your claim that Hidden Law was SH,, IT
@@suemaher5282I had him earmarked for The Derby Sue the way he powered home.Such a tragedy he's gone.Looking forward to York as something special may come out of the meeting.
Lugged slightly when the pressure came on. Lazy? Maybe. But he looks short of top quality.
To be fair they all said Millitary order was top quality last year. He wasn't
LA has always done what was asked. To me he is Coolmore 2nd or 3rd best really.
Thing in the yellow was a poor ride should of let the hands go sooner
You’re a bad judge of racing
Wayne should of been number 2 years and years ago!!!
Heffernan was better

@@Martin.Lewis..no he’s literally better than
Too slow for Derby . More like a Ledger type .
It definitely didn't look incredible. But a win is better than a loss 😂
He would be fairly epic in a Leger you would imagine on this.
what you basing that on ? the lats 2 furlongs were just over 23 seconds from what i can see
Not for me at Epsom thank you.
I don`t think he likes the track in Epsom he certainly did not impressed me . City of Troy is miles ahead in my view .
Good price for derby
Yeah, could improve significantly over another two furlongs, this was his first race of the season so he should come on a little.
@@nightowl7459I'd agree with you on that. In the paddock he was the stand out horse in the race and I was standing at the furlong pole where he quickened nicely enough without being over impressive. But it was just a trial and Aidan's usually come on a tonne for the run so I'd be having him and Diego over CoT at the current prices.
Gorgous looking horse it looks a nice track there. Hope it was a profitable day
@@suemaher5282He looked a picture last Season too. But that will count for little at Epsom 😂
@@suemaher5282 was a beautiful day for it, not many there so no queues 😀. Had 3 out of the first 4 winners before that terrible disease seconditis hit me! Got a lovely picture with the maestro himself, Willie Mullins, so all in all a lovely day at the races. He is a gentleman through and through.
He is now O'Brien's leading horse for the Epsom Derby. I don't think many are taking the two jokers City Of Troy and Henry Longfellow seriously.
Yeah I mean what did either of those horses achieve at 2!?!
#justanotherclowncomment
@@Martin.Lewis.. There's a certain boxing quote that goes “You're only as good as your last fight". What they achieved as 2 year olds means NOTHING!
@@harddriven1344 it's a football term actually that goes "you are only as good as your last result"
Let me give you another lesson in quotation...
" form is temporary, class is permanent"
But good try nonetheless x
@@Martin.Lewis.. It's a quote that has been used in many things. Let me educate you. If City Of Troy finishes with the tail-end Charlies at Epsom he will attract the attention of Australian owners, and that will mean a gelding job .

Annoying as!
Not a world beater on this showing. The fillies were quicker!

All the experts saying he wont win. Well give us the winner then or shut up

Can't win the derby
Well he might be in a team of 4 Colts with various Coolmore silks.
why ?
