This electrician must be hired by the hour!
As a certified electrician, I can tell you that you would never see a splice being done like that, especially when on the job. Any boss would flip to see someone take that long to make a splice. Now if a conductor that is damaged or too short needs to be replaced, then by all means, use this method to tie on a new replacement conductor and use the old as a pull string.

It’s called a western union splice. They used it on telegraph wires. It’s still useful to pull a new wire with the old one.

Yeah, cause everyone has all day to twist two wires together.
Idiot. How would you repair a wire with no other means? There is no other way to get strength and conductivity. The radio operator on board my first ship showed me how to do this in 1963 to repair a snapped aerial, vital for ship to shore communication.

It must be meant to be used in emergency situations. I can’t see any other reason to waste all that time. Hell I think even soldering would be faster than this.

Good to know the correct way to splice a cable back together and maintain a strong and slim profile.
बहुत अच्छा तरीका है।
As a union electrician, I can say that this is NOT how to splice wire and you will NEVER see this in the field
It’s a waste of time and materials and probably isn’t up to code anywhere
@@JT-cq9hx I don't think it's a code violation, at least not where I am. But it definitely takes a lot of time and you need heat shrink tube.

What electrician has the time to braid wires together like this when then can just use a wire nut and be on with the hundreds of others they need to connect
Or better yet lever connectors.
Crimp join all the way
Answer is : A smart electrician
You’re but gonna pull through a conduit with a normal splice and wire nut dummy
@@robbrooks3418 you put a junction box in at that location and use wire nuts or cut the wires to length properly to begin with so you don't have feed to spliced wires through a conduit which I believe is not NEC compliant anyway
Hello, as usual professional work, only the tin and soldering iron were missing and it would be great! Overall an interesting video
Thanks for the tips!
Really nice, i will consider that if i have to wire some cables together again!
Takes 19.7 times longer but looks strong with lots of surface area.
Yeah its strong and when you get tired and exhausted you put your tongue on the surface area for a quick charge 😆🤣😂
This is similar to the method they used to teach (and maybe still do!) the Signal Corps. It's a VERY strong joint and can be done quickly with practice. While i think this is a great joint for something in your boat, car, or trailer; as an electrician i would never employ this method--besides maybe on some directly buried cables you're about to bury again. Cool video thanks for sharing!
In the good old days this was called a Philips Joint. And was only suitable for electronics rather than electrical mains distribution.
No , they used it in overhead power lines 240/415v they use to splice then solder copper , I also use to rat tail copper streetlight distributors , that was over 40 years ago in Sydney

I respect this idea but only for those whose wire needs to oppose tensile force. However l, normally, wires do not encounter tensile force (pulling of wires from opposite direction) after connected.
Hence, a normal twisting is already okay and can function for a lifetime.
Especially when you do it in a car wiring.
czcams.com/video/WstRllyFUJA/video.html
That is submersible pump wire that will be hanging vertically in a well. It will experience tensile stress. This method is still a little weird. The industry standard is aluminum butt splices with adhesive heat shrink tubing finished with 3 layers of electric tape.

The way you did it the first time is how I do it and I have never had to re repair a job previously done and works every time but I do admit the last one you did was very tight and secure but who has time for that? honestly the first twist you did is how 90 of people do it including most certified Electricians.

Yep agreed. I called a electrician rep the other day and he just twist the electrical wires together and capped it. All of my bedrooms, five of them were dead. Don’t need to waste time and go beyond the basics, as long as it’s fix, it’s good.
Quality work! Extremely useful way. 👌🏻👌🏻
Belo trabalho 👏👏👏👏
Step 1: Strip the wire back to the previous junction.
Step 2: Overlap the two bare wires by about 80%. You should now have about 8 feet of wire you can wrap around itself, leaving you with around 10 inches of new length.
Step 3: Wrap the wires until the splice is about 3 times the diameter of the original wire.
Step 4: Be sure to have a friend proofread your resume after you've updated it with your soon-to-be-former job, as you will want it ready to send out by next week to avoid a lapse in your insurance coverage due to unemployment.

A suitable device is added between two wires for the protection and operational purpose.
Are there mice in the walls trying to tear the wires apart as in the demonstration?
I guess it comes in handy when you can’t replace the entire wire, but has to splice it in order to pull it thru some tight spots to its destination.
More like beavers. Lol
It will expose unnecessarily large section of area as compared to first one, and indoor wires are not meant to bear excessive physical tension.
