    I just bought one after having an RDX for a year and a few months I was able to transition to one of these for MSRP (which right now is difficult) and was only upside down $1500. I got the advanced trim and am totally thrilled, it’s the most luxurious thing I’ve ever been in. It’s currently at Ceramic pro getting full front PPF and a 2 year costing and getting the leather seats coated, can’t wait to get her back!

    Good review video for the Acura MDX Type S. That's nice you have a partner doing the review videos now. I'm glad Acura brought back the Type S badging and also glad that this is their time putting it on a SUV. In terms of performance another mid-size third row seating SUV to include as a competitor is the Jeep Grand Cherokee L with the V8 engine. Performance numbers for that vehicle comes in at 357 horsepower and 390 pound feet of torque. Between the two vehicles, the horsepower is almost identical. Just two more for the Jeep. The major difference between the two would be the pound feet of torque, giving a 36 advantage for the Jeep. It would be nice if the Acura MDX Type S and the Jeep Grand Cherokee L with the V8 engine go head to head in a drag race. That would be interesting. It would be 355 horsepower along with 354 pound feet of torque vs 357 horsepower along with 390 pound feet of torque. The interior for the Jeep Grand Cherokee L in the Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve trims would compete well with the interior found in the Acura MDX Type S. Same premium materials used, almost identical features and almost the same amount of tech found in both vehicles.

      Acura's are more of an all weather paved road performance and handling. They can; but, are not really made for off road driving or towing duties like the Jeep. As a rule of thumb, The heavier the car, the bigger the brakes necessary to slow them down. Of course, This is a practical reason why they need larger brakes for the suvs, but, of course, I’m convinced that these design choices eventually become aesthetic trends, as most of the manufacturers (regardless of practicality) do this for aesthetic purposes too. Consumers see the larger wheels on the more expensive models of luxury brands (base models have the smaller wheels), so the big wheels become associated with the more upscale luxury products. Everyone wants to be seen as upscale, so everyone adopts larger wheels. Of course, Those upscale cars that use larger wheels usually have sophisticated suspension systems to manage the rougher ride, and that adds costs (which isn’t a problem on expensive luxury cars). But it is a problem for non-luxury suvs trying to imitate the look. In effect, One solution creates a new problem, and so on and so on.

How does 18.1 cu ft of storage space in an MDX only fit 2 roller bags, while a Camry with a 15.1 cu ft trunk can fit 5 roller bags. It's almost like SUV cargo capacity numbers are a lie.

      @@musicmann7891 Exactly. I find Alex's reviews very thorough, and I'm hoping he stops relying on provided "cu ft" numbers when describing/comparing vehicles' cargo capacity. I was recently car shopping and spent a lot of time measuring trunks and hatches. Because in the real world, it's length, width and depth that matter most to me when packing a trunk. Sure, it's nice to have a little extra "headroom" in a hatch when the main "trunk" space is filled, but if the "footprint" of a hatch is small or too vertically proportioned, then all that hatch-provided space is not important. I won't pack to the ceiling blocking rearward visibility. I had dreams of making the Acura Integra work for my family. And went in with an open mind when checking out the hatch in part because so many folks rave about how roomy the Integra and Civic hatchbacks are. But for me, it was a big nope.

Just put a touch screen in already. The drive mode button being so big and centered in the dash is ridiculous for something that very few people will ever touch, and there’s way, way too much piano black. Finally, the MDX doesn’t “feel” very big on the inside - I don’t know why but it feels a bit cramped for its size. We had this problem with our last-gen MDX, and when we checked out the new one we felt the same way. For the physical size of the vehicle, the interior should feel more spacious.

    If only that turbo V6 was pointing the right direction (longitudinal rather than "sideways," which just reminds me it's a front wheel drive architecture.)

    Having to use the little touch pad thing instead of moving the screen up and making it a touchscreen is the weirdest decision for 2023. The whole dash, shifter, infotainment, etc looks and feels so unintuitive.

    • @markmiller3279
      @markmiller3279 Před 2 lety +1

      Nothing unless you need to seat seven. Most brands don't even have that optional on the highest trim levels. It isn't really for adults, but it's realistic to put three kids across the middle, or put a rear-facing child seat in the middle with a kid on each side. For families with three kids it's handy to have three in the middle row and keep the third row folded, only deploying it when your kids have friends along.

      Acura got rid of the 17-20 MDX Sport Hybrid powertrain too soon. It had 321hp/289tq from the 3.0L NA engine with 25-27 mpg always. Make the Type-S a Sport Hybrid and you would have +420 hp/tq and 22-24 mpgs always.

      Pretty much all vehicles are steer by wire, shift by wire, throttle by wire, and/or brake by wire. Acura just removed the gear shift because it doesn't shift anything? I have two previous Gen Acura vehicles and it only takes a day to realize how much it cleans up the interior and you have more space with the push buttons.

    Aviator for me. A bit more lux means more to me than canyon carving on a vehicle this large. Actually, the RDX looks more appealing to me than the MDX.

    The black trimmed wheel wells make it look weird. Big would get rid of those immediately. Other than that, it looks great inside and out. Overall, I would say it's a middle of the pack offering, all things considered. That's more than you can say for the TSX. I still think the Genesis and the Lincoln are head of the class.

    It"s nice for sure. Yet I think the standard MDX w/SHAWD is the route I'd go if I were in the market for a 3 row SUV with considerations given to the Hyundai equivalent. But right now? The GV-80 really is impressive. Considering the price asked, any touch points that feel like plastic is a flat NO-GO to me. Also, the piped in sound? Why would "I" actually want that? The best/only redeeming value if this platform and indeed the Acura models in general is their SHAWD systems. It flat out performs! So, $72K for this SUV? Well, The X-5 feels like a better deal to me. The Aviator hybrid would be my 1st choice.

    Brian I see that Alex sent you into his closet for those 🥜 buster slacks huh 😁? Brian blink twice & grit your 🦷 if Alex changed your factory programming. The amount of detail that you guys put into your reviews is super helpful. I always feel like I’ve really been informed about these vehicles after watching an AOA review.
    This is a good looking vehicle! I’ve always liked the look of the MDXs. We had one for about ten years and it was a really strong vehicle. They’re not incredibly fun but definitely comfortable and reliable. I’m still not buying this as a 7 seater. It has 7 seats but until a vehicle can comfortably seat 7 Alex type consumers it’s just a 5 seater for me. And in that respect why would I want that over something simple like a Sorento? Good looking vehicle though Acura. Kudos 👏👏👏
