  • I found a neglected Omega Caliber 600 in a movement lot and decided to save it and give it a new housing. For that I needed to source a fitting case and crown. Before fitting the two things together, a full service of the movement was done and the case has been polished and gven a brand new crystal.

Thanks for such a great video. I’m on a binge of your channel now!
May I ask, did omega do a lot of unbranded dials? How/where do you research what case it belongs in? If you get the right case for the watch is that considered perfectly ‘correct’ in the eyes of collectors or does it fall in a grey area between technically correct and frankenwatch? As I’m not a pedant I think it’s a beautiful watch you have saved from oblivion.

That is a very good point you raise here. In case of this watch in particular it sadly falls into the "grey area". The dial belongs to the movement, the hands are original to the dial, and the case is correct for the movement. So technically it is fine, but it could have originally been a different case for the caliber as well.
I am not sure why they did the unbranded dials, I'd need to to some research myself. But by googling the case reference numbers and looking at pictures you can see that the reference 132.019 exists with an unbranded dial and a Geneve print. So both work. Besides this reference number, I could't find any that take the caliber 600/601 with unbranded dial. That is why I chose this case.
If I have the chance I like to get it absolutely accurate and technically correct, but it's not always possible.

@@GermanWatchmakingChannel I know you understood my question as academic. Of course unless ‘you’ as in a person not you you, are in it for the financial it is really irrelevant. You created a beautiful thing that I for one and most people would be lucky to own. It just struck me this is a new situation for me where it’s possible to argue either way so is interesting. I am learning watchmaking myself and I thank you for your videos. I hope you keep going!
This vid got me thinking though. I’m looking forward to researching it myself after your kind reply. Will let you know if I find anything!
