Dear viewers, lots of you are saying that Arafat is a liar, and not to be trusted. In response to this, we would like to say two things. Firstly, we think it’s important to speak to a government representative, because we have to ask them tough questions and challenge them where necessary. And secondly, we will address some of the issues you are raising in far greater depth tomorrow on our show News Desk, live at 19:00 Bangladesh time, and 15:00 in Western Europe. We hope to interact with your comments then!

I request DW to enquiry Mrs. Debarati Guha's journalism. She is speaking like government ministers of Bangladesh. How can a DW journalist even say this "I saw the devastation of national TV office. I am sure it can not be vandalised by students". She is already saying who can do what before any proper investigation. This kind of journalism is not expected from DW news. I knew DW is a trustful source of news.

Thanks DW for addressing the issue immediately. However, there's one more thing I want to repeat:
I don't know whether Ms. Guha made unintended mistake, or she intentionally lied. But it's clear that her reporting doesn't represent the true picture of the situation here in Bangladesh. If she didn't lie, which I hope is the case, then I'm 100% sure that she didn't do her job sincerely. This kind of reporting is disgrace to journalism, especially when it comes from a well-reputed international media outlet like DW. I'd request DW to put more hard-working and realistic people on the field who take their responsibilities more seriously rather than relying on someone who chooses shortcut ways to do the investigation. We all know, there are no rooms for shortcut in investigative journalism.

I’m a student of Dhaka University from Bangladesh. I need your attention to the fact that Arafat is a liar (one of the biggest liars I have ever seen).
Most of the top officials of current government are liars. Here are two examples:
You have seen a video (verified by Amnesty International) of killing Abu Sayed by Bangladesh Police. But even after having such a video, the FIR on this case says that Abu Sayed was died being hit by bricks thrown by students. So just think about that.
Secondly, in July 18, the Minister of state for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, stated that they shut down the internet to stop spreading rumors about the protest. After that he again said that the internet was shut down because of the attack on Mohakhali Khaja Tower by protesters, the data center was burned and the internet was shut down automatically.
But when Bangladesh Muthophone Grahak Association stated that there was no damage of the data center that will require internet shut down, Palak again himself said in 27th July that they didn’t shut down the internet, it was shut down automatically.

One thing I must add: yes, there was destruction at the BTV building and the metro rail, and who is to blame for that is a separate discussion. The first thing to address is what happened on July 16th. On that day, they killed our six brothers who were peacefully protesting for their rights. The next day, July 17th, more people joined the movement, and the police responded with brutality, directly shooting to kill innocent students. Around 54 people died that day.
As the movement grew stronger, people from different parties and sectors joined to support the students the other day, resulting in more than 900 people being killed that day, over 20,000 injured, and 426 losing their vision. They tried to hide the dead bodies, imposed a curfew, shut down the internet, and started arresting students everywhere, whether they were protesting or not.
The destruction began when they started brutally killing people, and the situation spiraled out of control. Sources suggest that the destruction was caused by bus drivers who lost their income due to the metro rail, provoked by an MP from their own party, Awami League. They want to arrest all the students, labeling them as Jamat Shibir, but they refuse to acknowledge that it's not just Jamat Shibir; it's the whole country rising against them.

Ms. Guha clearly failed to fathom the actual scenerio here in Bangladesh puting her professional sincerity into question.
    For example,
    1. She overlooked the fact that general public also took part in the demonstrations.
    2. She didn't mention that the mass population, specially students, rejected the declaration of the national mourning day by the government because the killers are now mourning - crocodile's tear. They showed red card against it. And Facebook platform turned red today with people changing their DPs and Cover Pictures to colour red. University teachers, Supreme Court lawyers, celebrities also came in solidarity.
    3. She also seemed more focused on the loss of real assets than the loss of lives. This is exactly all the beneficiaries of the govt. are doing currently.
    4. Even after the presenter asked her about the accountability of the govt., she didn't mentioned the fact that the govt. is not even acknowledging the killngs perpetrated by the law enforcement agencies- let alone taking responsibilities. The govt. is still puting the responsibilities on their political opposition party despite clear evidences of most of the killings were done by Police and BGB shooting demonstrators to death.
    5. Many of the student leaders (Including Nahid Islam & Asif Mahmud) have been detained and tortured severly under police custody. If leaders like them who got such extensive media coverage are tortured in such brutal manner, then what can be happened to general students is a matter of grave concern. A 17 year old boy has been put into 7 days of remand despite being a minor shows how aggressive they can be.

Who were those individuals wearing civilian dress with arms and weapons along side with the police shooting at the students. Why were the police and government forces working with them? I am speaking as a common citizen of Bangladesh. Bangladesh has now become unlivable due to the oppression of the present government. The student quota movement is centered around. These tyrannical governments are firing from helicopters. 😓 Many adults including 3 year old children have been killed in their own homes due to firing. Apart from this 1000+ students have been shot dead indiscriminately by this government. Thousands of students are now missing. Here is another reason why these brutal murders have been used. UN authorized helicopters and equipment. So is the United Nations behind this murder?? But the Bangladesh government has shut down the internet to keep this information secret. So that the international media does not get the correct information. In this situation our wish for the intervention of the United Nations. At the same time, I call on the international media to present the correct information to the United Nations🙏
