Don't you think he would just use someone else's bass? His WHOLE ARM was in a cast and he COULDN'T BEND IT, so the only way to play the bass was to put it on a stool and play it upright.

His WHOLE arm is in a cast, therefore he can't make it straight, therefore he needed to put the bass on a stool to play. The only thing he could move on his arm was his fingers.
