As a white South African, I have often questioned the validity of my Africaness in a country I have lived my whole life post apartheid, there is still a lot of divide around me when I return home,, what I can say is that I feel the liberation in 94 wasn't only for the black africans but for humankind as a whole. Songs like this one make me feel more connected to everyone and a country that is my home and I pray for this energy for all as its the only way to heal. That is all
You are very valid. Most importantly special. We have a unique country with diversed cultures. And I am grateful for that. ♥️♥️Peace be in our land! God bless Mzansi
As an American, I was introduced to Mango Groove in 1994 thru a beautiful redheaded South African woman. We fell in love and almost got married. Sadly, it didn't work out but the music of Mango Groove has stayed with me over the years and here I am at 56 yo still listening to it today! Thank you Shan for the memories and thank you Mango Groove for the beautiful music! ♥️
Have a similar story....was introduced to it by a South African man I was madly in love with at university. Sadly our relationship wasn't meant to be but now at 53 I still listen to this wonderful band and the fabulous Claire. Even had Southern Sky for the first dance at my wedding and my husband loves it too.
I pray that South Africa triumphs over the corruption, covid 19, joblessness, racism, poverty and hopelessness that is the reality of so many people's lives. We are such a beautiful country. Songs like this give me hope and take me to a happy place. God bless South Africa and all her people.
It really is!!! I love how music like this along with the likes of Johnny Clegg is super unique to SA. And what makes it special is that they went agaisnt the aparthied SA bs standard and embraced the true South African culture
One of the best South African songs -😁 from one of the best bands and one of the most incredible lead singers ever - Clair Johnston. So craftily done by a super talented band. A true classic!
As a South African, having left my country, this breaks my heart. The memories, my childhood, my country. We have overcome so much as a country and now, we have simply gone backwards. I pray that one day South Africa will overcome racism, corruption, poverty and so much more. One day, I hope we will all be united again, as one...
Once apon a time there was music in Africa. And then there came American version where our artists change their accent and what remain will be the blood that runs through their veins since even their appearance will be American as well. Anyway we had good artists like this ones that we can shine through.
Today, the 3rd of February 2023, Standard Bank hosted these guys at Rosebank. I happened to be there, I witnessed it. They performed this song as one of their last songs. They knew how magical it is. They knew that it invokes things one thought are non existent!
Couldn't help but stand up and dance to this amazing classic. Took me back to Primary school years where they taught us how to dance gumboots dance. We used to often preform for visitors. 🙂
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 The nostalgia is undescribable as it also takes me back to my primary school days in Victoria Falls Zimbabwe, what a time our parents/guardians gave to us.
I am 64 born and brought up in Rhodesia...now Zimbabwe. I danced to the original songs in the sixties. Mango Groove did a splendid job bringing them back......brings beautiful memories of a happy childhood. Much love from Zimbabwe 🇿🇼
The opening of this song brings tears to my eyes. Reminds me of my childhood and friends we lost at an early age. May your Souls rest in Peace, expecially you Kedibone Phahlane...i really cannot forget you, i remember dancing next to you on this song. Gone too soon💔
I saw Mango Groove for the first time ever 2 years ago and met most of the band. I cried my eyes out with happiness, kept my sunglasses on throughout the performance. They're something else, I love Mango Groove. Grew up with this beautiful music my whole life and I'm so proud of being a South African.
My special star that shines is looking at my 3 young daughters hoping and believing but also knowing that their future is bright! South Africa is beautiful
OMG - this brings back so many happy memories. Makes me really miss my beloved Africa. There are others, but this song for me, always embodied the REAL South African Spirit, against all odds.

I am not a South African but this song makes me proud of Africa in general. It was played on Radio Jacaranda while mourning the passing away of that great South African, Nelson Mandela. Mandela and the song are two special Stars of Africa
