@Jo Fr Hi Jo, I hear you. (And I agree re: the lack of stigma around meditation). One tip I would suggest (if you haven't already tried) is using mantras. It basically replaces your thoughts with a sacred sound. I will be making a video about mantras soon. Some days I find it difficult to meditate any other way too! My favorite mantra to use is "Om" or even just "One". And I'll repeat it for 10-20 minutes per session. It's difficult to get lost in thought when you're repeating a mantra (and really trying to focus on it). Just my two cents anyway! GL!

One of my greatest life learnings is that life is impermanent and that this has both positive and negative connotations. Suffering does not come from the impermanence, but rather in trying to accept the fact that things in life are not permanent.

Yes! Meditation, in my opinion, is the single most important practice someone can do. Most of us exercise our bodies, or at least try to. If you exercise your brain (which is what Meditation is) on a regular basis, you will create a stronger brain which is what controls everything else in your life, including the will and determination to exercise your body, eat better, think healthier, etc. So, yes, please keep doing more on mediation 🙏
    Btw, this was great 👏👏👏

There is, among the layers of our consciousness, a state that has no knowledge or fear of death. Having been there, I can say that our normal states are so immersed in fear of death that it is invisible to us and there is nothing that is not affected. I don't know how that relates to the non-existential threats we fear today, but worth considering with it.

My understanding is that it requires at least 35 preferably 45 minutes or more every day for at least eight weeks for these changes to start to stick
It takes at least 20 or 25 minutes for the brain to quiet down and thoughts to quiet down after 35 minute mark. The brain is releasing internal chemicals so that it likes doing the meditation.
If you don’t sit for at least 35+ minutes it’ll seem more difficult and harder to keep doing.
I like to say the second hardest thing to do is to start meditating. The first hardest is to keep doing it .

Meditation can inhibit negative thought formations by lowering our overall brainwave frequency into the Alpha and theta patterns. Our normal mind functions on a predominate Beta stream of brainwaves that lower in frequency, when we relax and stop focusing on thoughts. This lower frequency of brainwaves given enough time changes our "Default mode of thinking," to one of being present in the moment. This simple change of thinking pattern to mindfulness changes everything, including our health and mental wellbeing.I have studied meditation for almost fifty years, almost as long as I studied magic mushrooms.I started mushrooms as a child of 14 like Stamets.

Amazing and compelling video on the subject of meditation. I like that you went into the details of the brain and what it does, which areas the practice affects and how it can benefit our lives. I feel like transcending specific parts of our nature is just inherently part ouf our human evolution. Transcending the ego described as DMN through the TPN is a good way of pinpointing it in the brain as we understand it now. Good job!

"Anybody that's struggled with anxiety knows this" ha! :)
Here we are, humankind in 2020 with a significant portion our world made to adapt and serve us. Now, we're at a biological mismatch with these technological extensions of ourselves and suffering consequences (in keeping with our minds being very much a part of our body).
Not sure exactly where I'm going with my comment, but it seems that originally, coming up with more efficient ways for humankind to go about our lives was with good intent, now it's seems that much of our course has been altered by greedy hands.
I believe we can still have peace in our minds and satisfaction in our lives by loving ourselves and those that matter and "turn on" when appropriate, those who may be blind.
