Many years ago my husband and I had the privilege of entertaining some of the chaps from the RE band. Firstly true, they drank the mess dry, secondly they had to perform infront of the townhall in viersen germany. They left our house at 7:30 got changed then went straight to perform at 9am. You would never had known how much alcohol they have consumed they were as straight as a dye. Alan the master never once dropped his stick.

Band does a fine job. Thanks for posting. I wish there were more spectators. How often does an event like this take place in this town/city? Was it properly promoted? Shouldn't this attract attention from the more residents?
trapezemusic there is an annual Gurkha freedom parade (videos on my channel) in Brecon and it was publisiced quite freequently online! It was in the Easter holidays so some children came to see the parade but as it was a weekday many people were in work. I am glad you enjoyed the video though!
Fabulous Band with a Service History of 160+ Years to the British Army. Saw them at The Buxton Tattoo in 2013. Their service record or musical skills, did not save them as those "Clowns" at CAMUS, decided they were no longer needed and disbanded them in 2018. The rule in the Ministry of Defence, seems to be "if it is any good get rid of it".

Sure was an event. I have never been to anything other than Windsor and the stuff you visit is MONSTER by comparison. Takes a lot of effort I have no doubt. Doing a good job old chap !

When the band of the Corps of Royal Engineers is reduced to about 20 people it shows the world be no longer have an army. Shame.
All the British military bands seem to have been cut in half from what they were in the 60s and 70s. If you remember seeing the Corps of Royal Engineers Band at the 50th Anniversary of the D Day landings, it looked to be 3 times the size of this band. The reduced military is just a reflection of how Britain regards itself in the 21st Century.
Your so right I would say a third of the size in 1970s and I think the sappers had two bands at one time

The RE Band is half the size it was in the 1970s
And now sadly since the start of Seprember, it has combined with what was The Royal Artillery Band to create The British Army Band Tidworth.
I did not know that That is so sad My father was a Sapper for a long time I grew up in the REs Its odd how the Guards keep there Bands and a RE & RA lose there Bands due to amalgamation
@@Jeffybonbon Yes, take a look on the Corps of Army Music website, it explains it a lot clearer and all of the other almagamations that have taken place in the last month. Its is a sad time for the army bands, however, perhaps good that there will be less bands but those of more capability and more personnel? Probably down to Recruitment and that of music education cuts too, but that's a while new debate really! I hope I could have helped anyway.
There was two RE Bands one at Aldershot and one at Chatham what a dam shame so much for end of cut backs but thanks for the update
@@Jeffybonbon guards didn’t keep them more they just detached them from regiments and the guards needs musicians re doesn’t
I like how the conductor has a sword and spurs, in case he has to stab someone then ride off, or whatever.
