    I wasn't born until 81
But my grandmother has been a fan since the 50's in her teens. Saw him perform once in 1956 at the Cotton bowl. In Dallas,Tx for the state fair. Begged her momma..who was a Pentecostal preacher.. She only agreeded if her older brother and his wife took her and warned her not to be jumping and hoaring like those other girls. Fineally..there he was on stage.. When her brother left to get cokes. His wife smiled and nodded at her and ran up to the fence and screamed for Elvis like Every body else.
I'll always loved that story. And thank you very much for your stories.. You lived an amazing life. With a pretty incredible cousin. God bless you and your family

Oh, bless your heart Danny. We all had our hearts broken that day. I can’t imagine what your family went thru.
I want you to know what a blessing you and your family are to us by sharing your Elvis experiences with us. We know we get the truth from you.
I have loved him for 52 years and I get a lot of smiles from people when this old lady drives around with Elvis’s music blaring from my car.
    Thank you 💜

What a lovely memory. I'm 67 year's old and I alway's live and love Elvis because he was just like us he never put himself above us. He had a humble heart, he will live on through our familie's. He left behind a lot of family that love him too, especially the Smith family. Thank you all for helping keep Elvis's memory alive.

I was 11 yo and loved Elvis! We were on our way home from Opryland on the interstate when it came on the radio. I just started crying😓 My Dad pulled over to comfort me bc he new my feelings about E. Thank God my Parents had taken me to see him for 2 shows the year of 1975. We sat on the 8th row, he was very close from the 8th row. I was an 9 yo star struck little girl❤️✌️ Thanks MMK😓

Danny, I was about 11 or 12. Eat, breathed & lived Elvis. I was a second generation fan. Teased a lot, but I knew good music, so I thought everyone else just didn’t have taste. I sitting on a beach in Lake Tahoe at Camp Concord Calif. One boy had a little transistor radio (before everyone had electronics ruling their lives😋). Shouted out “Ha Ha Ha! Elvis Presley died” The kid grew up to be just as tasteless as he was in 6th grade. All my friends gathered around to console me since I bawling my eyes out. They gave me some blue tissue, of course I carried it home with me in a lunch baggie where it still sits today in my Elvis memorabilia box. Rock On to all those awesome bands that followed after Elvis. I listen to almost every genre because of Elvis. Elvis could do anything with his voice, I could hear all the different types of music just by listening to his voice. Sometimes his voice in the last few years sounded like he could have been a opera singer. Not my thing, but an example of how powerful of an instrument he was blessed with.🤘🏼🤟✌🏼

I can see that even now all these years later it’s painful for you to talk about that day so thank you so much for sharing with us. It was the morning of my 10th birthday when I came downstairs all excited to be met by my parents with this devastating news. I cried for weeks and even now like yourself it’s difficult for me to talk about that time without getting upset. I feel for you deeply but please take comfort in the fact that you were so very lucky to have known Elvis as you did, I was and still am thousands of miles away from Memphis over here in the U.K. so it wasn’t possible for me to have been there at the time unfortunately. I love that man with all that I am and always will, there’s never been a day throughout my life that’s gone by where I’ve not played his music, watched a movie or documentary etc.. I love him for what he’s given me and the world, for the kind of man he was and still is, he’s my Elvis and always will be. God bless you and all true Elvis fans out there, we know and feel the true Elvis Presley, the man, the King Of Rock & Roll.⚡️T.C.B⚡️We love you Elvis ❤️

I was 10 years old when Elvis died, as well. I was at my friend's house and she called me into the kitchen. Her mother (who was a huge Elvis fan and had seen him in concert in the 50's) was on the phone with her mother . I heard her say, "Mom, can you believe it!?" I looked at the TV and saw the announcer say, "Elvis Presely dead at the tender age of 42." I left immediately and rode home on my bike uttering the words, "Please don't be true." I rode up my driveway to see my parents. I asked if it was true, and they shook their heads Yes. I cried all night long. I still cry to this day.

I was 5 months old when Elvis passed away, I constantly argue with my parents why they never saw him live, he is the single most important musician/ performer to grace this planet, he wrote the book on cool. I know this is silly but I truly believe Elvis was specifically sent by the big man upstairs to make life better for all of us. Thank you Danny and God Bless.

Dakota you are so right! Thats it!!! It wasnt like stars now today. Elvis was different, sure handsome, talented beyong measure!! (Ive never seen a more good looking man in my life!) These things fade for all of us though, no one is exempt. There r younger haters that dont understand & make fun of a “fat” Elvis. That is so unkind. Elvis had much more, MORE! He genuinely cared for people, we have heard so many stories of his generosity & kindness. Not only by buying cars for others or buying homes for people, or even taking his rings off and giving them to total strangers... it is the ENTIRETY of the man that he was, as Billy told us about the car salesman being ugly to him & Elvis standing up for him, or the “gate girl” who tells a story about the guys making fun of a not so pretty woman there & Elvis escorting her around his home when he looked bk angry that the other men had been so rude. Even when he bot a horse or puppy, he wanted everyone to have one! That is Elvis Presley, the man that all of us true Elvis lovers admire & love about him. He was set apart, we all see it! That kind of a person is rare in this day & time... we love him for who he is! It didn't matter if he gained or lost weight, he wasnt perfect either but the genuine loving, kind man that he was as a whole, is a light that does not fade in our hearts. We did notice it! We love him still & I know it may sound silly to some... but I think in those few moment between this world & eternity, Elvis cried out to his Lord & went home. Miss him but I am so glad he is resting, free from the struggles of this life. Cant wait to meet him but in heaven, I will probably be with the REAL KING Jesus! Ty you Elvis for the wonderful music you shared with us all & your loving kindness.

My dad who just loved music, guitars & elvis songs broke down in tears. I wondered? Omg, Elvis Presely? No! . . How 😢 saddness & grief filled the air. My mom had just been rushed to the hospital in Columbus Ohio and my husband and uncle who were both Elvis fans were sitting at a drive thru restaurant getting a sandwich and coffee while waiting for the hospital to get mama in her room. The radio was on low and my uncle Woody said 'Did you hear that? I said no what? and he said 'They just said Elvis died ' We were just so shocked we just headed for the hospital and I was there for 14 days while mama fought for her life but on September 1st she died too. She was 42 the same as Elvis and she would say that Elvis was 4 months older than her. I will never forget either of them. I watched Elvis funeral on the TV in the hospital dayroom along with many Dr's and nurses who stood by so silent you could hear a pin drop. Many tears falling and sobbing could be heard. We always live Elvis and we always miss Elvis as I'm sure you do. Just loved that man.

I was 16 years old and working at Consumers Distributing (a big kind of department store) when it came over the radio and I told the lady I was serving to “shush,” and we both listened and burst into tears. I couldn’t stop crying so my manager sent me home. I stayed in bed crying and listening to his music for 3 days. Other than my fiancé leaving me, that was the saddest time of my life. I’ve been a fan since I was 5 years old. I’d send you a pic of me holding up his Girl Happy album in Jamaica when I was 5, if I knew how to. May he R.I.P. I still miss him. 😔

      Bob Rob,
I do too...I think most of us who love Elvis, remember when they heard of his passing. It was so unbelievable & tragic to me as a young teenager! I immediately ran outside to my Mother who was working in the yard & called out to her to tell her but she scolded me for teasing her about something like that & I had to express to her that I was serious & compelled her to come inside quckly to see & hear about it for herself. I will never forget it & still dont like to discuss it. I like talking about his life. In fact, I ha a 12 yr old dauhter who passed on Christmas Day 1995, I heard my daughters half brother has tatooed his arm with her name which was miss-spelled & with the date of her death. Is it just me...(Dont get me wong, I think that was a very kind thing to do) but, why do we need to celebrate the day of the death? I wld rather celebrate when these people we cherish, came into our lives instead of the death date...😢

The Coochmon I agree wholeheartedly but I also believe that the world has missed out on what I think would have been the best music Elvis could have ever done! He just kept on getting better as he got older, his voice matured beautifully, it became fuller, smoother, richer and his ear for the songs he sang became amazingly pure! He was a master at his craft and they’ll never ever be another anywhere close to him, I miss him and the essence of what could have been each and every day ⚡️T.C.B⚡️❤️

Hey MMK, sad story. Thank you for sharing it. The good memories that you guys are sharing really do overshadow Elvis' death and it puts his life story in a much happier light.

Thanks Danny, I can tell it is painful to talk about. I loved watching Elvis movies as a kid, I thought he was the coolest dude ever. In his movies he kicked ass, drove fast and made it with the hot ladies. My fascination with him began the day he died. I was 15 years old and I just bought a 57 Chevy in metro Atlanta, when I turned on the radio, as my my uncle was driving it home, the radio host announced Elvis had passed away. When we got home we found that all three TV networks were covering the story nonstop for hours, they were giving out flight information for flights to Memphis and other things. It was like nothing I had ever seen. It was like a president had died or something. From that moment on I had to learn all I could about him. Thanks for sharing all of the personal stories about him.

So sad, but thank you for sharing your memory of that terrible day. I guess everyone remembers exactly where they were. I'm reading Linda Thompson's book and just finished the last chapter about Elvis. It made me cry. She said that she was sitting on the landing of the stairs with Billy, Jo, and Patsy, watching people file past the coffin, the four of them "who understood his heart and his humor, sat for hours," laughing and crying. Do they still keep in touch at all?
I wish I could be at Elvis week, would love to say hello.

I had a portable radio I was listening to. It was a Tuesday evening. 12 years old. Was walking to a community center like I had most Tuesdays for events there.
Reflecting, there was a piece of me that rose from my heart and a full understanding of what death was.

Hi ,first of all I want to tell you how deeply I feel .I suffered very deeply at the time when I learned of my sweet honey ,like you and everyone else .For me, a world was shattered ,even though I didn't know Elvis personally ,but he was so deeply familiar to me from the beginning ,as if I knew him forever ! I was only 8 years old to the indescribable ,painful no longer there his day of our beloved ,Forever Unforgotten honey Elvis .I saw him as everything at the time from the day I listened to him for the first time on a record until the sad day .He was for me the most precious ,most magical person ,the father I didn't have ,and dream Man too .I have never seen him as a star ,always just as a sad ,loving indescribably sweet ,honest man .He has accompanied me through my deep cruel childhood and youth ,2 years from 8 years to 9 years when he was still alive and afterwards in my heart forever in deep love ! I can understand you so deeply .Thank you for your sincere ,honest words here and must give that I had already believed the rumors about him that he was supposed to be living .Because it would be indescribably beautiful if it were .I was all the time torn in my heart by the rumors ,because as for you it would be too deep for me and for the others if our honey

Thanks Danny for sharing your memory of that sad day when Elvis passed away. I know that's a hard thing for you to talk about. I remember that day also . I remember standing in the front yard at our home. I was waiting on my mama to take us swimming and she came outside to me and my sister that Elvis passed away. About that time my mama's friends Linda stuck her head out the window and ask my mama did she hear about Elvis passing away ? We were all in shock and couldn't believe it. Even though Elvis wasn't kin to us it still was so sad .
I also love Elvis music the most , but I like other singers and bands too . That's okay , ain't nothing wrong with that . I have been talking to my daughter about coming out to meet y'all. I sure hope I can make it . Thank you for sharing another great video with us !!

I think most of us remember where we were when we heard he’d died. The guy on the news said that it was a story he never thought he’d have to report. I’m sure it was tough for you kids. I wish he’d known we loved him and not the image. He said it was hard to live up to an image well it wasn’t necessary. We in my family felt he was our family

So sad Danny but Thankyou for sharing how it felt for you. I was 11 and up getting ready for school. I had my record player on with the 8am news and it came on. I was devestated also I couldn’t go to school for 2 days and sat the following weekend watching Elvis movies on re-run just crying my eyes out. When I did go back to school, I wore my Elvis tshirt with it’s now or never on it so all the kids knew how much I was his fan. Love & hugs from Melbourne, Australia.

I had just turned 7 the month before Elvis died. I remember we parked in the neighborhood by graceland and I remember standing in line for a long time along the rock fence to see him in his casket. When we finally made it to the gate, they were letting people go in by groups of 3. They let my mom and two brothers go in but would not let my dad and I go in with them. One of the guards was going to let us but the other said no and then they didn't let anyone else go in, so my dad and I got separated from my mom and two brothers. My dad didn't even have a dime on him to make a phone call because my mom had all our money with her. She passed out and was put on a stretcher and was taken to the hospital. I remember waiting a long time for my mom and brothers to come out but they didn't. So we finally walked back to the car and went home and my mom called my dad from the hospital. I remember my dad sitting in his chair at home crying. I don't know if it was from the stress of getting separated and being out in the heat for so long or because he was sad about Elvis. I think it was both. Elvis has always been my favorite singer. It was a very sad day.
