Ray, it's Marvin. Your cousin, Marvin Parker. You know that new sound you're looking for? Well, listen to this!
Genius 🤣🤣🤣
And that's right Huey Lewis did the Back to The Future soundtrack. Brilliant.
THAT WAS "THE POWER OF LOVE" FROM THE FILM BACK TO THE FUTURE
Ha, Ha, Ha !!! Great ! 😂
"Great isn't it, Ray! It's called 'Pop Muzik'!"
Is it just me or has Huey Lewis always been 45 years old?
I think he was mid 30s here
lol so true
yes but hes always been the man
Everyone in the eighties looked 45
You like Huey Lewis and the News? Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '87, Huey released this; Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself.
that saxophone solo is just amazing, love Huey Lewis!
100%
Love the sax solo!
First of all, rock music needs more sax solos, for sure. Second of all, this is perhaps one of the best sax solos for a rock song I've ever heard.

It's a laugh-riot
That's because Huey Lewis And The News started producing their own records after their first album flopped.
Is this from American psycho?
What made Huey Lewis and the News stand apart was the Tower of Power horn section. Part of one of the greatest rhythm section to ever exist.
The music of Huey Lewis &crew is absolutely FABULOUS,MARVELOUS,EXHILIRATING!!!

Happy 70th Birthday Huey Lewis!(Born July 5, 1950)😀🎂🎉🎊🎈🎁🍾👍👏🙌
No way.
Damn! Huey is 73 yrs old? Hell yeah, boy!
Watching old Huey Lewis videos really gives you an appreciation of the budgetary considerations studios were under back in the day. "Guy's, we got the SAG extras for the whole day, we got similar sets, we got wardrobe, let's knock out 'New Drug' and 'Happy to be Stuck With You' today."
They spent a lot more money on videos then then they do now.
Possibly the pinnacle of 80's music. If you stay in a bad mood after listening you cannot be helped.
True and great comment!
Also the shots of San Francisco before it was ruined by "progressives" is a real kick.

Huey is unfortunately far too underrated, he has a fantastic voice and excellent lyric writing talent.
He was on the tip top in the 80s so I don’t know how underrated that is
He’s in the best movie ever too. He’s under the radar legendary

There were so many artists and bands that had it back then

"I Want a New Drug," with its killer guitar riff (courtesy of Chris Hayes), is the album's centerpiece - not only is it the greatest antidrug song ever written, it's also a personal statement about how the band has grown up, shucked off their bad-boy image and learned to become more adult. Hayes' solo on it is incredible and the drum machine used, but not credited, gives not only "I Want a New Drug" but most of the album a more consistent backbeat than any of the previous albums - even though Bill Gibson is still a welcome presence.

Cool story. Hey, did you ever get reservations at Dorsia?
@@ol4037 No, not really. It was really my brother who got me a res at Dorisa. You see, I had vowed to get a reservation at Dorsia one day (if not during that calendar year, then at least before I'm thirty). Last time I called Dorsia someone actually hung up on me even before I got to ask, "Well, if not next month, how about January?" I thought about trying to get a reservation for Sean's birthday, but the energy I would have to spend attempting this feat wasn't worth wasting on him. Besides, I thought Dorsia was far too chic for him. So anyway, Sean called me at five from the Racquet Club and tells me to meet him at Dorsia. He had just talked to Brin, the owner, and reserved a table at nine. My mind was a mess. I didn't know what to think or how to feel. How could he get a reservation just like that? What made it even worse was that the maitre d' refuses to seat me until my brother arrived. My worst fear had become a reality. A prime booth across from the bar sat there, empty, waiting for Sean to grace it with his presence. My rage was controlled, barely, by a Xanax and an Absolut on the rocks. Let's just say I was on the verge of tears. While having dinner with him I wondered if it would be too late to ask the waitresses to bring a piece of cake over with a birthday candle, just to embarrass the crap out of Sean, to put that little bastard in his place - but I decided against it.
I must admit, they do have exceptional sea urchin ceviche, and the lobster with caviar and peach ravioli is great.
Thanks Patrick
I was 32 when this song came out. I was living my best life. I worked in an art gallery, I had a sculpture studio and I was producing art. I was exhibiting my art in galleries, and selling my work too. I was wining cash award grants, which allowed me to buy a brand new 1985 Honda Elite 150cc, scooter. It was for me, too. I decided I was going to add this to my morning routine when I was a kid. I put a bunch of ice in my bathroom sink and filled it with water and, before I could even get my face in the water, my mom came around the corner, saw what I was doing, and started yelling at me for wasting ice and I started crying. It didn't go anything like I had envisioned.

It's been 40 years since this song peaked at #6 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and stayed there for two weeks, even though it's not a drug song, it's a love song.
On this day, 40th years ago on January 3, 1984, after "Heart and Soul" in 1983, "I Want A New Drug" was released as the second single of the album, "Sports". It peaked at #6 in the US Billboard Hot 100 and later in 1984, "The Heart of Rock & Roll" and "If This Is It" debuted in that same year and also peaked at #6 in the Billboard Hot 100. The musical comparison between I Want a New Drug and the Ghostbusters theme song is undeniable. The 2 artists and the movie studio settled out of court on the "infringement". I really like the song I Want a New Drug, as well as the Ghostbusters theme song and cannot imagine any other rendition of either. Both have become iconic songs of the era but each paints a different picture; while the underscored melody is identical, the message and overall tone is decidedly different. I cannot fathom a different song for the iconic Ghostbusters, and I am so very happy to know a continuation movie is coming; before there were movies that created/established a themed universe, the makers of the Ghostbusters franchise were already laying the seeds.
Please forgive any errors, I have a spinal injury which has left my hands numb and makes for difficulty in typing on a keyboard, don’t get me started on “speech to text” that never works correctly.
This will make you wanna delete this comment! Imagine Huey playing all songs with this music: if this is it and every song!
The message is different? Yea one's a real song and one's a fking movie song about ghosts haha.
@@Vote_By_Mail do not blame the movie for that shameless rip 😅
No errors at all, you've summed it up perfectly. Ghostbusters is probably my favourite movie, yet it does make me a little uncomfortable that its iconic theme was born from slightly shady origins. But like you said, I can't imagine a different theme song any more than I can imagine the movie being called 'Ghost Breakers' or 'Ghost Bashers' like it might have been if they hadn't settled the rights issue to the name.
As it wrote in wikipedia article
>In a 2004 article for Premiere magazine, the filmmakers admitted to using the song "I Want a New Drug" as temporary background music in many scenes. They also noted that they had offered to hire Huey Lewis and the News to write the main theme but the band had declined. The filmmakers then gave film footage, with Lewis's song in the background, to Parker to aid him in writing the theme song.
Both song have small similarity, but I can't say that one is copycat of another. With respect to film crew they framed themself and Ray Parker Jr.
