Yeah, nothing against the sorta-medieval, pseudo-european aesthetic in theory, but it's getting overused. Morrowind dared to be fucking weird, and that's why people remember it to this day.

@@armedwombat6816 I think that's why the difference with the races is so cool in ES stuff. All the variances of men are recognizable to a degree, and familiar, but you get into very weird stuff when you go into elves and the beast people. Just such a drastic shift off depending on region

Some of us started this journey 20 years ago, others later, and some will just start with Skywind sometime. But even if we all played and experienced by ourselves, it feels like we're on this trip together...and I hope it never stops. Thanks for all your effort, guys!

As mentioned earlier, Morrowind does not have an official Japanese version and there is a retro-gaming barrier, so the number of players is small compared to recent titles, but there are many TES series fans in Japan who like TES3 the best.

My older brother bought Morrowind around the release in 2002 but our computer was too slow to run it. I was 12 or 13. Maybe a year later we got a better GFX card and booted up the game. I remember loving the first person perspective in an open world RPG environment and just how 'free" the whole world felt. Stealing everything in sight, finding exploits, committing crimes on the down low etc. I never really played the main quest but explored every inch of the map seeking out the strongest weapons and secrets. I did not use the internet at the time to learn anything so the exploration felt organic. My main memory is just hoarding piles of Daedric weapons at my house in Balmora for no real reason.
a few years later, after being disappointed by Oblivion, i gave it another go, this time actually doing the questlines. I was about 16 and for spring break i was pretty much left home alone. I had been going through a tough time and I spent that whole week doing the whole main quest, Tribunal, and Bloodmoon, loving every second.
Now i'm 30 and i don't think i had played the game since that week in '08, but booted it up yesterday with some mods just for fun. the nostalgia came flying back! While the combat is wonky (always was) the world is so rich and interesting and the music always makes me a bit emotional.
Shout out to the amazing team at Skywind. I've been following the work off and on for 10 years. I hope i'm still around to see the day this project is released!!

For me the most memorable place was the one in the main quest when you first enter one of the Sixth House hideouts. The Sixth House had been hyped as something so scary, so naturally walking into the belly of the beast for the first time felt terrifying. *(Early main quest spoilers)* The red lighting, deformed enemies, and at the end getting infected with corpus. As a kid I thought my character would turn into one of the monsters in the cave, throwing away all the time and experiences I'd had with him. That felt gut wrenching for a kid who didn't really understand how games work.

Balmora was always my favorite city. The design, the feel, everything about it makes it such a well designed city. Every playthrough I kill Ra'Virr and use his house as a base. The mages guild having the blue lights in it. The many bars and eateries which, to be honest, are really not that "functional". Morrowind is the perfect mix of the alien, fantasy, medieval, colonial (the empire) setting. I can't understate how perfect I think this game's world is. The mechanics may be old and clunky at times, but I know them so well that I don't get angry at it anymore.

The place I'll always remember that stood out the most to me the first time finding it was this little unassuming cave that I found by mistake. I don't remember what it was called, but speaking of story telling, this cave was so awesome for just that reason. You make your way down these narrow tunnels, and then out of nowhere you're in this huge underground cavern with water on the floor, and in the center, a huge viking longship. Like, how the heck did this get here? As you explore it, you realize it was the burial site of some important Nord. The ship is covered in gold weapons and other valuables, and in the center is the long decayed skeleton of a man. So good!

Very glad to hear from you guys again! I've decided just last week that SkyWind is the one thing that will get me to play Skyrim again.
"Chased by a cliff racer". Yes but no. Whenever I used a speeding up spell and it wore off, I'd usually turn around to find very much more than one cliff racer on my tail. In one notable case, there were seven, lol. The shrieks still haunt my memories.
About the dungeons: one thing that had me smile at times were the names given to certain interior cells. "The Teeth that Gnash" and all that.
My memories hold a special place for the Sheogorath Isles region. How there was basically nothing there, except the mud and lichens, these huge mushrooms, a nix hound minding its own business and -- most importantly -- the thick fog that slowly revealed all of this as I let my character trudge along. Honestly, the worldbuilding, flora and fauna design done in Morrowind remain among the best I've ever seen. So much so that the bears, trolls and wolves of Bloodmoon and Oblivion seemed cold-water-shockingly mundane and boring by comparison.

Every time I convince myself to return and keep going (as much of a masterpiece it is, it is still a product of its time with the controls and combat) I never regret it because one thing that never gets old is just how massive feeling and fantastical the game is, not to mention the quality of storytelling and lore.

I remember being in early high school back in 2007, I was captivated by this alien exotic world, it was a cool fantasy experience.
I played the game in English, which is not my first language, and it boosted my vocabulary and text analysis skills because I had to read through every dialogue proactively.

I was taken by the Wizard Lord Mushroom Castles as well. Although I loved all aspects and factions in Morrowind, the Telvanni and their homes were what I was most drawn to. Even in a somewhat recent Morrowind run, I couldn't resist, I had to make a Telvanni Wizard, go build my own Mushroom Castle, and just embrace the region.

I am truly looking forward to the experience this mod will provide. I see the original and I see a game I wouldn't be able to sit through. But at the same time, I see plenty of the Elder Scrolls world I've come to love, so I still have plenty of interest in seeing what Morrowind has to offer.
It's almost difficult watching these videos because I want to be able to go in blind the way I did with Oblivion and Skyrim. But I just can't stifle my enthusiasm. I eagerly anticipate the chance to sink my teeth into this.

Loved this. Initially followed this project in 2014, but have been looking at Morrowind conversion mods since Oblivion's release. Hope to lend my voice as a male Dunmer if a position is still open when my life gets less busy. I'll try to audition.

I can relate to Dan's experience: playing a game like Morrowind without no English knowledge just make it more scary and alien 😅 I wasn't able to finish the main quest or any quest at all to be honest, the exploration meant everything to me back then. Great video and amazing work!

The most memorable place for me was the Lost Dwemer Checkpoint, where the Dragonbone Cuirass was stored. To me, it was very special not for what it contained, but for what it stood for. This was a place meant to be found by only the most adventurous and exploring players. It was out there in the middle of the ocean, far far away from everywhere else. When I first found it and the Lockpick Skill 100 door, I knew I had stumbled on a place of great legend, untouched by man or mer for thousands of years. Why was something hidden here, so far away for everywhere? I could only fathom in awe and no other game has given me that feeling ever again. This nostalgia trip is truly incredible.

All you people did really good with this. Its amazing and very impressive. My 2 favorite memories of MW were the character creation that you do at the start. So many choices and options. Then I remember getting my butt kicked by some guy in a cave/dwemer ruin and he had the most beautiful armor on. I had to return many levels higher and found he was wearing Ebony armor and it became mine. Took me awhile to get the set or most of it as I recall but it was an awesome experience.

Happy Morrowind's birthday for every fan! I really hope someday return to the Morrowind with your precious mode. Send all my love and respect to Skywind team!
In terms of question, I think that my favorite zone is Ascadian Isles, especially Pelagiad. It's such a beautiful, fresh and peaceful zone. I spent a lot of my playtime there when I was a child, collecting herbs for trading, swimming for pearls and fighting for life and death with rats and kwama foragers :D Close to the evening, after a long long ingame day, I was always returning in one of ascadian towns, trading my goods and buying food and room in the local tavern. What a lovely memories! Since then I have a dream to be just an ordinary shepherd of netches in one of the close to Vivec farms ^^

Anna gave me goosebumps i remember the 1st time i met divayth fyr in his mushroom tower and i tho this is the most badass character ever, the only dunmer who's a wizard and wears a heavy ass full set of daedric armor. finally, the ordinators and vivec city were/are pretty cool, yeah they were religious fanatics assholes but damn they were cool, just casually passing by and hearing " we're watching you SCUM" with these cool af helmets.

For me, Lost Kogoruhn. A truly lost location, once a proud Dunmer stronghold, now so abandoned to the blight, ash, and dust, that nobody even remembers where it is. There is no travel options that even place you remotely close to it, and yet you must go there to discover the forgotten evils within.

I’m 22 now and this was the first pc game I remember seeing and then playing. I was around 5. My oldest brother had it and showed me when he played in Balmora.. and that was it. I fell in love in the game. And it was a huge part of me. I still play it now sometimes when I have spare time.. I have discoverrd every house, every place on the map.. and when I see video like this or hear music I am so grafeful of having these memories from my very childhod that I just want to cry and put on the game again..and I just want to disappear in that world that just feels like home. It is so amazing to see other people relating to this. Thank you guys for making us re-live it. ❤️❤️❤️

my first elder scrolls game was skyrim, which had already blown my mind when i was a kid. I find myself to be hardly impressed of many things, now as an adult.
well i recently played morrowind, and i was amazed by what the game was, and how it managed to be superior to skyrim in many many ways.
The world of skyrim had not really impressed me that much as it has a very realistic feeling, except for Blackreach.
Well, exploring morrowind felt like exploring a much bigger blackreach, everything managed to be impressive, and had this alien feeling.
That feeling that lets you know that, yes, you are playing a fantasy game, with otherworldly elements. I regret not having known morrowind earlier on, but I've been catching up.
