Music from Epidemic Sound (www.epidemicsound.com) - Hry
You truly are an archaeologist and historian. Your enthusiasm is contagious.
I could spend HOURS watching those boxes. Keep these videos coming!
4 years later, and we could really need some more videos in this series.
Este pibe me hace querer hacerme el harakiri pensando en todas(bueno, "todas", las pocas que tuve) cajas de juegos que tiramos cuando iba creciendo y nos mudabamos etc.
@@odinsplaygrounds There are so many 10 hours continuous "Patrick riding a seahorse" for example, why not 10 hours of PC Games Big Boxes Art by LGR"
@@oraculox yo nunca tuve ninguna, por eso babeo más cuando veo esto!

7:15 I guess that's what happens when you give your box a lot of ABUSE!
Clearly the best youtuber on youtube. Which is why he can have a fraction of the subscribers that a lot of big youtubers have and still make way more money off of it just from patreon alone. Love ya Clint! Thanks for the many years of entertainment you've given me that has been 100% up my alley! And here's to many more years!
I appreciate it, and thanks for watching!
+The Dust Collective Your voice calms me LGR...good content as well :-)
I hope Clint opens up a PC gaming museum one day. That would be legitimate.
I would immediately quit my job and apply for one there
Nobody makes boxart like this no more.
We live in dark times :(
You mentioned sci-fi books in the video and that made me think, what if LGR did a video about his favorite books? I would LOVE that.
I actually have just such a thing planned!
Lazy Game Reviews :O
+Lazy Game Reviews Street Rod series has got awsome artwork.
+Lazy Game Reviews LGR Reads™! And then I could totally see you doing a special feature on tables of contents, lol!
+Lemonadeaholic
Oh man, LGR does Heavy Metal magazine covers reviews, that'd be sweet.
I live for these videos. I also miss going into stores and purchasing these games. I liked the guides and reading about the characters before starting the game. My favorite was when I got my FFVIII game with the guide from Best Buy.❤️
LGR YOU'RE THE BEST!!!
I kid you not, I started writing a comment about a game I played as a 10 year old called "Sacrifice," that I sucked at but the story and the idea of it I found really compelling. I love that you brought it up! Please review it!
Also, you're hilarious and your videos rock.
It just occurred to me what a priceless time capsule you've got going on there. Not only do you have all these games that are so representative of a bygone era, but you also have the means to play them the way we all did back in the day, with the right hardware; no remasters or crappy emulations... Makes me a bit nostalgic just to think about it, transporting me back to the good old days of Hidden & Dangerous in coop, Giants: Citizen Kabuto (Also a pretty good cover) and, of course, No One Lives Forever! (My oh my, Cate :v)
I love how they sub-titled "The Sequel to Myst" on Riven, I wonder how many copies of the game that sub-title alone sold...
Probably not a lot of copies. But I do see it on the Sega Saturn very commonly.
+Ruko Michiharu I always wondered why the didn't call it Myst II: Riven. They would have sold even more games with that title.
+ApemanMonkey nah, I like the Title of this game, it's okay.
Mygingerguy I'm not saying I don't like the title, on the contrary. I'm just saying that the name Myst was HUGE, even having recognition among layman, so putting that more prominently in the title would have sold more copies.
+ApemanMonkey oh, ok then. That might have been a good idea.
Just wanted to say that I love your videos Clint. I see the passion you put into them and I always look forward to seeing your videos in my notifications.
excellent video man. i saw your NAM copy sitting there on the shelf and was hit with a nostalgia trip of my childhood, what a crazy game haha.
I love hearing you talk about things, you have such passion and such drive and it makes me happy how excited you are to talk about these things, and how much you enjoy them. Never stop making videos :)
Thanks! And no worries, not stopping if I can help it :)
9am in Argentina, a couple of homemade breads, a coffee, and a LGR video... best breakfast ever
Thanks man, you made my day
Mageslayer is so metal. Looks like a Draugr too.
This was great. Hope you revisit this with a Part 4 and beyond. So much nostalgic memories seeing these cover arts, especially as a former employee of Babbages, Babbages Etc., etc. etc. lol. I wore dress pants, white button up shirt, and a tie to sell these games and edutainment. So worth it looking back.
Seeing stuff like this makes me wanna fix up and upgrade my Amiga 1200 and get a storage upgrade for the STE, and collect boxed games and software for 'em.
Keep up these awesome videos, Clint. You are awesome.
I really enjoy this box art series, both best and worst box art. I'd love to see some more episodes in the future! :D
Love your videos! My personal LGR wishlist for reviews:
Wing Commander, Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale, Morrowind, Thief 2 and 3.
Ahh, Abuse and Sacrifice. Brings me much nostalgia!
awesome video. I love these box art videos you do
Great Video, Hope to see more. There was a ton of great game box art from the 80's and 90's on the NES and Sega Genesis as well. That Max Payne one is great, still have the mouse pad.
I've been waiting for another installation to this series! :D
You're awesome, mate! Thanks for the memories 👍
First there's a "Sanitarium" game and then there's "No Remorse" / "No Regret".....................am I the only one sensing a Metallica theme here?
Theres actually a game called Damage.Inc
oh man i loved megarace when i was a kid!!! Was my go to when I was traveling. A lot of those boxes really brought back memories of that time :) Thanks for the nostalgic feels!
Was waiting on a new episode of this Clint! Still waiting on some more reviews of people and companies like you did with John Mcafee. Keep up the good work Clint.
Love this kinds of videos! Hope you make a part 4.
Excellent series. I really enjoy these
Great stuff! Good memories. Thanks man!
I like boxes that have flaps you can open. Notably, Deadlock I, and a few others. Thief 1 did too. And, as I usually say, I hope one day you'll cover awesome manuals. Deadlock 1, Shattered Steel, Red Alert 1, nearly all Blizzard games, heck, even Skynet had a great manual!
You're the man, man. Keep 'em coming.
You have got to feature more Psygnosis games man. They were stunning, as were some Core Design games. A cover I liked that comes to mind is Microprose's Gunship 2000.
Lost art. Reminds me of my childhood. That being said, I love the no clutter of digital downloads. I'll just admire other peoples collections. Nice vid
I was shouting "BROM" at the computer when I saw that last box, then you said it was him and I felt insanely content. Brom is probably my all time favorite author and artists. The man is disgustingly talented and so is his wife. Seriously can't recommend his books enough though!
That Mageslayer artwork was unreal. Raven Software in their prime is one of my favorite video game developers, there was at least a decade-plus stretch from the early 90's to mid-2000s where they released an exquisite quantity of quality titles, especially Jedi Knight 2 which is probably my favorite game of all time.
Watching this channel makes me all nostalgic. Hey,could you do another Bad Cover Art entry or Earthsiege(Tribes) retrospective?
I am so glad you included Battlespire lol i thought it has awesome box art when you first did a review on it!
Nice to see Riven. You need to finish it :p I'd love to see you do a review of the Myst series like you did for Elder Scrolls. Love your channel. Game box art was to the 90s what vinyl records were to the 70s. I remember the sheer joy of going into a department store or computer store and seeing all the juicy beautiful game boxes. That's actually how I discovered Riven in the first place. I played Myst as a 5 year old but when I saw Riven in the stores it totally blew me away. Now I'm a huge Myst fanatic after 20 years, 5 games and a failed MMO (Uru).
Oh my god - Sacrifice IS awesome indeed!!
In regards to a future list, I've recently begun playing the game Psychonauts and it's hilarious...the box art is pretty nice too and fits well with the whole theme of the game in my opinion :)
Man, MegaRace, that really brings back some memories. I remember getting it with a Mindscape PC game bundle (that I can't seem to find any information on) as a kid along with D/Generation, Dragon Lore, Metal Marines, Commander Blood and a few other games that I can't remember the names of. The games didn't come with any kind of packaging and were just fitted in the box, but it was the first set of PC games I called my own.
Well I ended up finding out the name of the bundle in case anyone was curious, it was cleverly named Mindscape's Big 16.
definitely need some of your favourite vinyl covers in this style it would be awesome
I remember frequenting independent computer shops during the early 90's and being impressed by the boxes on the shelves but they had Amigas and Atari ST's set up with games to play so I was far too diverted to really appreciate them. Later in the mid 90's when I was a console game owner but I'd keep getting drawn in by the PC shelf in Game despite not owning a PC gamer because they were so big and beautiful. Nowadays I buy Japanese MD games because they're cheap and pretty but you still can't beat that beautiful embossed cardboard goodness. We can emulate anything now so the packaging is the star.
I remember Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy's box art standing out on the Kmart store shelf. Metro Last Light's big yellow 'M' stands out quite nicely too.
The ship on the front of the Sidewinder box bears a striking resemblance to the ship on the cover of the Space - Just Blue album. Even the landing legs sticking out is a prominent feature on both of the ships, as well the similar profile.
The comparison between the SideWinder logo and the logo of a metal band from 1986 made me laugh out loud because of how accurate it is.
I instantly thought of the band Sodom's logo.
Judas Priest. Fuck Yeah.
One of my favorite game box art is LucasArts' Full Throttle. I love the explosion, the sick motorcycle and the huge embossed logo!
Another great video, LGR! Regarding the Max Payne game, I played that when it first came out and, although I sold the game many years ago, I still have the mouse pad at my computer right now and have used it since I first got it :)
The CD case for all the Riven discs was pretty awesome, too.
Love the art episodes, by the by.
Mageslayer, fantastic art, fantastic gameplay. Played that and Take No Prisoners so many times. :O
Early Psygnosis games have some wildly imaginative boxart, very cool stuff!
We need a Part 4!
the art of old stuff is magical
Two of my favorites are the box cover art for the Amiga version of Dune (the one with the split cover of a desert and a water drop), and the cover art for the PC game Starflight 2: Trade Routes of the Cloud Nebula.
One of my favorite old box covers is Full Throttle with the motorcycle looking like it's going to fly out of the box into your living room. The guy riding it is gritting his teeth while everything explodes behind him.
The only "recent" box cover that caught my eye was for the MMO Rift. Cute girl with a giant jeweled dagger with textures and other details. Meanwhile there are these giant ugly plants above her that are about ready to pop and you want to see her chop all of the vines with her giant dagger before they grab her.
One of the few boxed PC games I have is Star Trek: TNG - A Final Unity and I really like the art for that. It's got the Enterprise-D front and center silhouetted by a star and passing over a planet with the cast presented over it in a carousel fashion. The logo also has a nice beveled silvery chromatic foil thing going on. As a former commercial art student I definitely approve. I found it at an Antique Mall called Collectorama (or something like that). It was set up like a kind of indoor unmanned Flea Market with little areas that sellers rent out. The particular booth I found this in had a discount going so I managed to pick it up complete in box for under $10 which is actually around the eBay price (I suppose it's pretty common) but it's definitely good for something I found out in the wild.
The cover art for 1989's "Taskmaker" is awesome aswell
Fade to Black was a disappointing early 3D game, but the big box cover art by Moebius is fantastic.
I love these episodes!
Sweet! Part 3!
Got that Civ I CIB... possibly my favourite big box ever. It's just so, so damn classy.
No ragrets
Wonderful video as always, constantly inspiring me to grow my big box PC game collection.
Aww, *YES*. I love your favourites!
Aww, yes!
Never had great exposure to games cover art, but from what little I owned, my fav is Jane's longbow 2 thanks to its anaglyph picture of the apache.
Awesome box art
I honestly wanna play MAGESLAYER now...
That box art is beyond badass...
I've been beging for you to review atleast one of the Crusader series in many of your videoes. Hope you manage to get to that now that you've recently held those amazing boxes! I mean - A game with both Yeates and Necros involved in artestry/music, that's a must review!
I always really like the Populous and 1602 A.D. box arts, i was wating to see Populous, but still haven't been let down. All of these box arts are sick.
Zork Nemesis has to be one of my favorites both for the box and the CD art with all the star constellations.
For me the Amiga Psygnosis game boxes were amazing, great artwork.
Riven is my all time #3. All of the art is fantastic in the game.
Always loved the cyber-tec industrial looking big box for Mechwarror esp MW2. LGR reminded me how badass it was to own BioForge, and how when I was 13 (20 years ago!) I would proudly display it on top of my dresser. Art for Maniac Mansion / Zak McKracken always amused me, and at Babbages in the mall.. the holy grail for me was "The Dig" all holographic, shiny.
MEGARACE!!!!! Years ago I offered to pay you for a review of that game, and I bring the game in general up in the comments now and then. I've been subscribed to you for years and I watch every single video you make, and I still would violently smash my way to a computational device within seconds if you ever posted a review on Megarace lmao. When's FMV month coming back?
the original XCOM EU box art. It has NOTHING to do with the game in question but it's awesome. Reminds me a lot of Terrorpods.
such good episode
"I'm Lance Boyle, and this is MEGARACE!" Brings back memories of my first CD-ROM drive/soundcard package. Megarace was the bundled game ;)
woah late night upload heck yeah!
I love fantasy and scifi box art. My grandfather actually gave me a lot of fantasy and scifi art books, and many pieces look like they would work well in other mediums like box art.
I remember Sanitarium. I saw it sitting at an EB at the time and the cover looked cool so had gotten it. Great game. It makes ya think thats for sure. I always liked the guy beating his head against a wall near the beginning. lol
That Mageslayer cover is SO METAL!
Nice video. One of my favorite boxarts where from a post apocalyptic 3rd person arcade driver game. I can't for the life of me remember what it was called but you would drive around in these dunebuggies that you could outfit with different kinds of weapons like rocket launchers or shotgun-type weapon. You would pick up ammo from the enemies you killed and yeah... Anyway whatever that game was called it had a very Thunderdome feel to it with a boxart to match.
You should do a video on old PC game box contents; some of them were crammed full of cool stuff. I loved when they made the game manuals appear to be something from the in game setting. My first experience with that was Starflight. The manual was done as a Welcome Manual for new captains; I thought that was so cool as a kid.
I love the cover arts of System Shock 1 and 2 and especially the first game, since it reminds me a little bit Jodorowsky's Metabarons comics, I don't know why.
Now that everything is digital, I don't pay too much attention to cover art (and good covers are most rare now) but I loved the one for Dark Souls Prepare to die edition, simple yet beautiful and Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon because it's so cheesy, 80's and over the top that it's good (so I got the poster of course)
One of my favorite is of the game ORK for the Atari ST and Amiga, by Psygnosis.
Another favorite of mine is the European of Carrier Command for the Atari ST and Amiga. I remember looking it even before getting the game (magazine photo) and drooling over it.
Another is the Fighter Bomber one (european ST Amiga).
One more I have to mention is the European cover of UFO Enemy Unknown. So terrifying!
I was expecting Of light and darkness, after seeing it on one of your previous videos. Great selection though, as always.
I love this series, cover art is getting so bland and homogenized these days (mostly Triple A titles), seems like it doesn't matter to some developers since more and more people are buying digitally. I'm glad to see more of these amazing classic cover arts, brings me back to when I was a kid, at the store and looked at a game on a shelf and said "Wow! What's this!? It looks so cool, I need to play it!"
Indeed. Triple A cover art and even most indies are pretty bland. Lately, we've had the orange and blue themed covers in everything (like the BF3 cover art)
My faves are System Shock, Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri, Fallout, Sentinel Worlds I: Future Magic, Star Control 2,
UFO: Enemy Unknown, Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall (foil), Outcast...just to name some.
I remember going to through Cost Co. Looking at all this awesome PC stuff I couldn't play at all in the later 90's as a kid. I looked at MIST and other things like Duke Nukem 3D and remember the demos on display that I tried to play. When I could finally get some by 2000 with my moms crappy Gateway I remember playing Simpsons 3D Springfield, OUTLAWS and getting Beavis and Butthead: Virtual Stupidity lol.
I know you've already said it before, but Diablo II's box art is still just creepy & way cool at the same time. I'm not much of a PC collector, but I had to have that box in my collection.
Friday morning LGR? Sweet.
8:36 DO IT!!! No, seriously, this game deserves so much more attention than it ever got.
I see you scored one of those sweet gamer's edition Hotline Miami boxes. They were worth the wait!
Balls yeah it was worth it! I love that soundtrack on cassette.
LGR, it's 2017, time for LGR - Best Classic PC Game Cover Art [Pt. 4]
Hi LGR great video as always. Thanks for staying true to your fans and not straying for the sake of numbers *cough* Nerd 3 *cough*
A few questions:
1) have you ever seen the box art for "DS9 harbinger" and "Pax Imperia eminent domain"? Great boxes
2) what keyboard did you use to make your typing logo sound with? It's got so much ping to it.
I love that Sidewinder cover. Looks like a lost Yes album.
Another Raven game "Take No Prisoners" has a total 90s cover. (dude on a rooftop lots ov explosions etc) Fantastic game to, managed to lodge itself quite firmly and fondly into my memory ov yesteryear.
I've never played sanitarium but I always wanted to because of that box. it's definitely one of my all time faves.
I just bought the boxed Command and Conquer, I love that art....
Preferred Crusader boxed version is the collection edition one for me, mostly because it's the one I own but also the yellow hazard stripes/text contrast nicely with the Silencer.
Also got the Mageslayer manual and disc from a friend, I only keep them for the badass art on the cover.
