Keysight figured it out! If you want reach Dave faster, send it to dumpster.
Have you tried shipping internationally? It takes forever!
İlhan Neğiş a
Keysight Oscilloscopes best!!!
dont disclose such vital info !
Question how do you make some of your high end scopes cost nearly a million bucks?
Whenever I visit Australia on holiday; your local dumpsters are going to be one of the major sights of interest.
Dave! Seriously, five in a dumpster? It's not April 1st yet. I hope you're planning on a giveaway contest.
You didn't watch the video, did you?
Haha yeah, and he stated the model is not released yet.
A little bit of advertising concealed as dumpster action, but i like it.
GIVE ME THE COORDINATES OF THAT DUMPSTER
I just finished watching. Yeah, I jumped the gun a bit there. Looking forward to participating in the giveaway contest. You're the man. Thanks Dave!
Promotion or dumpster, i don't care. I want one!
I have not use an oscilloscope then 90's
Seriously uncool marketing bullshit. Have you sold your soul Dave?
I take it you don't want to be in the giveaway?
Why get butthurt about advertisement of a good scope? Jeez... I suppose some people live in world where any kind of advertisement is evil, must be a tough life.
RussianCthulhu I'm only asking for some honesty. If it's advertising, then make it clear, don't hide it as a "dumpster find".
What!,your saying he didn't find the 5 (as yet unreleased) scopes in a dumpster, well I never.
lollandster, This was obviously a joke :)
Great story design for a sneak peek, I really like that! 10 minutes of pure entertainment, many thanks Dave...
A homeless person somewhere is wondering where his oscilloscopes are.
haha
Please don't patronise your viewers, the feigned enthusiasm is unnecessary. It's an advert, a promotion. Disclose it and move on.
I like the look of the scope and always like your videos. Many viewers are the same, we'll judge by your honest review not the bs.
If you think I'm not enthusiastic about showing people a new unreleased scope then you need to watch more of my videos.
He was only having fun. It is hard to imagine Keysight suggested the "script". In fact i'm not sure they are happy with their new thing to be presented as coming from the garbage. Probably he didn't want to be that over excited guy presenting a great promotion on his channel and went the other way. :)
Dave was likely asked by Keysight if he'd like to participate in Keysight's giveaway promo and submit an original concept that fit with his channel. If we're seeing this video, then the concept, if not the whole final video, has likely been vetted by Keysight.
I somewhat doubt Dave lets companies approve/deny his videos. I say they dropped five oscilloscopes on him trusting they will get a fair review. He probably signed a NDA stopping him from doing a tear down before the product is released.
This is part of a pre-launch promo. I would be really surprised if whatever agreement(s) Dave had to agree to in order to participate in pre-launch activities didn't include clauses allowing Keysight to veto things that go against the promo's spirit.
For example, instead of wondering if the glitchy waveform display in the response plot were intended as he usually would, he simply glossed over it and moved on.
His agreement likely required him to save any criticizing and nitpicking for his post-launch review.
I'm sure he didn't actually find those in the dumpster, the manufacturer probably sent them...
FlyingMoose That makes more sense...
No shit sherlock
Nonsense, I've been looking everywhere for those scopes!
Apparently they actually came in on moose back... likely why they had a bit of a smell to them too.
Blame the new guy for losing them perhaps?
Fail!
Dave broke his golden rule.
"Don't turn it on....Take it apart."
ibd1977 It is not released yet.
man i cant imagine finding one in a dumpster, let alone 5! nice find Dave.
Keysight your customer base engagement is almost personal-level.. Kudos
I would not be surprised if Dave finds brand new gold bars in dumpster.
I wish there were dumpsters like that around me. Awesome.
@KeysightOscilloscopes the dumpsters next to our office are really nice too, very reachable ;-) You should consider using them instead of breaking into Dave's basement.
Nice. Build quality looks far better than competitors and response is speedy. Only a teardown and full review will show.
That is very cool, finding 5. Congrats! Would love to have one of those for myself.
Something stinks about this content - feels like an advert rather than a normal Dave review?
What happened?
Richard Lincoln agreed
You are right, I actually shouldn't have numbered it, I didn't think about that. I can't fully review a scope before it's release date.
Richard Lincoln it's the way most good youtuber go.. they make fantastic content till they make dollar. then it's sell sell sell
Dont listen to these punks Dave, send me the bloody scope
Excellent Dave... :-)
Yesterday I was on the scrapyard, you will not believe what I found....
A brand new H2!!!! What crazy jerk dumped that....
I left it, because one or two weeks ago I found an Enzo...
Wow, love to get my hands on that scope, I hope you do an in depth video soon
Connecting generator and oscilloscope possibilities to make Bode plots.. beautiful :)
I just put our trash out to the curb. Now I'm curious whether I accidently threw away several unreleased DSOs, because that apparently happens.
You should go buy a lottery ticket Dave.
Yeah, apparently that's a thing...
All I found was a bunch of nasty kitty litter and several pizza boxes. :-/ I'll bet that your dumpsters are better stocked than mine.
Pretty obvious marketing trick, but I like it and I'd love to have a scope like this... I'm still rocking a Philips PM3310, but it's almost giving up. Love the channel!
c'mon Dave, you don't turn it on. You take it apart 😠
Thiago Coura No, because it is not released yet!
He's got five - he can take apart one of the other ones that he hasn't turned on yet :-)
Pretty sure my husband would have kittens winning that scope. I am willing to video it for your blog, Dave.
I appreciate your videos and your INSIGHT LOL!! I really need a Dumpster like that!!
Really interested to find out how much the FRA and webgen will cost. Also they need to increase memory depth. Alternative option can be Analog Discovery 2.
Occurred to me also , Keysight is hanging out in your dumpster , I need to rent a corner in your shop Dave ;)
I really would love a scope. Ive been looking at an older rigol for simple stuff like data lines, buck converter measuring, or ossilation checking for clk on iPhones.
Keep up the great videos
Suddenly i felt a need for one of those scopes.
Ahah Dave I would like to travel to Australia just to visit that dumpster place 😂😂 very fun and great review thanks !
You could make a living just dumpster diving in that building. I once furnished a whole office with all stuff we picked up by driving around a wealthy part of baltimore over two weeks going through all the stuff behind the buildings. Credit card machine, phone, fax chairs, stationary, decorations, paintings. That would have cost us thousands of dollars if we went to staples and bought it all new. Another good place to look is building that are under renovation. We once offered a guy to pick up a full sized aluminum trailer to an 18 wheeler. We got $1500 for the trailer as scrap aluminum and a working three keg kegerator with all the taps and all stainless steel.
The FRA app is a fantastic feature for an entry level scope. Awesome.
Dave, considering that the huge Keysight givaway is limited to a small number of (wealthy) countries, maybe limit your giveaway to the other countries? As it currently stands people less likely to win are also people less likely to be able to afford to buy any scope.

You can make something similar for home workshop using fast adc, cheap processor, ram and a few microcontrollers. PC is way more powerful than those 3k USD oscilloscopes for the purpose of indication or function calculation. Also, I doubt there is some free delivery across the border in those countries. For the same amount of tax payed for a "free" something delivered over the border, you could get the components for something better for use with some PC. Also, you can potentially get the components from the used electronics, which is available even in some poor Africa countries. What is needed, is the knowledge and skills to put it all together.
I definitely need to rent an office in that building! I want one of those!
I second every ones scepticism... has someone found a way to avoid being told they are having a second suck of the sav?
Hi! Very nice review! Comparing Keysight DSO1052B vs EDUX1002A, wich one do you recomend?
I wish i had those kind of dumpsters in my area
Wow. I looked through the Keysight web site and couldn't find any scope like this one.
I really should invest in a few dumpsters. Are there models designed for increased gear production?
Amazing! I hope you grabbed the other scopes down below this one?!
Awwww... I wish I could afford one for school! but they're sooooo expensive! lucky you dave!
Hope your randomizer finds me, cause I'd love one... Just have a little cheap USB scope now... Love the vids!
hi Dave, when will you release a full review of this scope?
My startup(to be launched sometime this year) could use this.. decent upgrade to the rigol!
Wish I could have that luck. Thanks for the video.
Bummer, Romania not allowed in the "scopemonth" giveaway.. I wonder how they decide which countries to include and which not...
Dartboard. Actually, lawyers. But the dartboard would be a lot more fun.
Hi sir I also try to get frequency response but it gives in negative db response.
I can hardly wait to compare one of these with the (in)famous Rigol DS1054Z!
:o)
I would kill for an analog scope in a nearby dumpster let alone a NEW digital scope! You lucky dog!
I would die for such a scope. So much extremely usefull functions in these!
Please don't. Then you couldn't use the scope :(
I'm curious if you contacted the police to make sure they were not stolen and dumped, especially with 5 of them.
Does the front flip down so we can put our toast in it?
Thanks for the commercial dave
Wow... a full 10 seconds until *something* shows up on the screen. And a total of 22 seconds until it is ready to use. Was the programming done by Microsoft???
Actually yes! IIRC the scope runs Windows CE in the Background xP
HP had its first Windows-based instruments something like 15 years ago, if not even earlier than that and this has carried through Agilent and Keysight brand changes. Having a 20-30s boot time is rarely an issue for bench equipment since those usually get turned on in the morning and stay on all day. Also, if you are going to do precision measurements, there's that 5-10 minutes warm-up time for the clock and voltage references to settle.
Teardown Dan my scope is vacuum-state rather than solid state. It has to warm up for a minute or two before *anything* is on the screen, and more like 10-15 minutes before it works well.
What's a good entry level oscilloscope for a hobbyist?
Hmmm, nothing information on the Keysight website about X1000. What a???
Will this scope likely be in the same price class as the DS1054Z?
I should invest in a few dumpsters.
Why I never find a scope in the dumpster
does this scope hold up against the rigol 1054z (i don't really care for the extra channels, i use an LA for my decoding). I've never owned a scope before so i really don't wanna go wrong here. Where i live there's only a 100$ difference between the 1054z(50mhz) and the DSOX1102A (70mhz)
Can't wait to see the tear down!
Very cool scope. Well done Dave!
I wonder what the selling price will be on that scope. Probably well above my budget.
What gave it away was the untorn screen protector. Who would leave that on on something they were gonna throw away anyway?
what kind of projects can you do with this?
Of course, Keysight should be advertising for the "Bob's Your Uncle" feature at the press of a button instead.
Now they need to release a "Dumpster Find" Edition of this scope. :-)
once it is release? I don't know, Dave.
This makes me want to dig though dumpsters...
Don't waste your time...I've already been there.
I had sold a lot of this serie. It provide several fuction for free. like fuction generater and frequency response analysis. but the way, this series was OEM by Chinese firm Rigol
In 30 years of searching dumpsters, I've only every found brand new Tek's.
Hmm...
:)
That thing looks pretty amazing!
Can't wait to see the details on this and maybe win one!
Thank you for your generosity
wonderfull find!! I wounder I could find one for me 🎉
I want to have one of those magic dumpsters! I'll move to the rubbish dump!
It looks nice, and probably is well made too, but all depends on the price.
Maybe those dumpsters are located above an ancient kangaroo cementery build by the native australians(?), that would explain the fact that very rare (mostly impossible to find) things respawn inside those containers, or... the entire "hey look at the model of ICBM I found in the dumpster" was sarcasm. :/
The bode plot and generator features really sold it for me, but then I looked at the price. It's £600.
Wish I could find one in the dumpster :( Would make school work and projects so much easier.
LOL. i would never be so lucky! I'd be lucky to find a single page of the Keysight manual in the dumpster. Send it to me dave! I'll even pay some cash for it!
Keysight probably planted it there so Dave could find them!
i think, i also go looking in every dumpster today....haha
This video is a really good poe haha, just to anyone who is confused or thinks he actually found 5 of these in the rubbish, he has the scopemonth giveaway sponsored by keysight in the description, keysight probably gave these to him for the giveaway. Either that or this is a master level poe and I'm the one being fooled :P
Fair enough. All I heard was "dumpster dive" and "Keysight 1000 X-Series" and I pulled the trigger on a comment. It seems a lot of people are having the same mental lapse based on the comments.
When it first popped up I thought he was serious too, then he said they hadn't been released yet and I checked the description :)
Yeah, Dave is a master of getting our attention fast. Good luck in the contest.
Thanks, you too! :3
We all know that Dave is master level.
Nice one Dave! I hope for a - winner, winner chicken dinner - this year ;-).
Looks like a very nice scope.
Are you kidding Dave, you left 4 others in the dumpster!! get them out and send one to me, I'll gladly pay for the postage.
Lol, love the method for introducing a new piece of kit!!
How can the scope say 16 feb when the video is published at 15 feb (at least here in the Netherlands)
Nice looking scope; I must go check my bins now :-)
I could use one, my old Tektronix 2235 is dead, Trying to find a new scope, been a pain in the rear end. after ordering 3 times on ebay. all where DOA. not having any luck.
Woot Woot, that was an Excellent Dumpster Dive X Five!! Cheers.
Can we enter the contest in several places? CZcams, Forum, Patreon etc?
Did you grab all 5 of them?
can you share the address of that dumpster?
Dave-o mate what do you think about "Storedot's one minute phone charge"?
Bs or the real deal?
What sort of dumpsters do you search all of this for ._. Like how much surplus of cash must and institute have to just throw 5 oscilloscopes out for no reason ?
Dave, I would love to have one if you can't find shelf space for all five. I'm in Merriam, KS, USA, a suburb of Kansas City. I'd be honored to save the planet from more eWaste by re-using these dumpster-finds. :-)
Check out Scope Month, we're giving a bunch of them away starting 1-March!
Holy Moly, the buttons seem very responsive - not like my old device.
Mate that's awesome , what can i say ,one of them will fit nice in the shack ,then i will have to learn how to use it !!! Man i can just see it among the other gear !!! what a dumpster find !!!
Good luck!
