Dear Amelia… I feel you and my heart breaks for your loss. I lost my boyfriend on August 31st and my beloved cat on October 23rd. For weeks I was sobbing every day and night. I felt so lost.
But, even though you might not believe it, but it get’s better. Or maybe better is the wrong word. It get’s easier to live with the grief.
I read a beautiful quote an it totally fits for me.
Grief is like a huge rock.
First you have to learn to manage to not get suffocated by it because you can’t roll it off your chest. After some time you can get it off of you and start to cut it in smaller rocks. And one day you are left with a small rock, which you put in your pocket and carry with you for the rest of your life.
And I guess that’s it. We will carry this feeling of loss and grief for the rest of our lives, but we once were lucky to experience true love!
    Hang in there, girl! 😽

I can’t tell you how much this video has touched me 😢😢. When they say time is a great healer - it is not trite - it’s true! Thank goodness! Yes take all the time you need to cry your heart out and think about your Duke - but when you want to stop - and you will - never feel guilty that you don’t seem to grieve with your whole heart any more. That love you gave to Duke will be yours to share again, however you choose. Yes we cry over the years - but not constantly, only sporadically when some tiny thing reminds us of them. Then we have a little cry, we appreciate them and we move on. We love on. You will too - but take all the time you need first. Guilt has no place in the grieving and healing process. Take care lovely ❤❤❤

Hi Amelia I’ve been thinking of sending you a message for the last two weeks, I’m quite a bit older than you, 48 and I’ve gone through losses both dogs, cats and my best friend who died suddenly and horribly aged 44 4 years ago, leaving two young children without their mum. I hope what I say helps you. Grief is natural and the price you pay for loving someone but at the same time that is beautiful, all the love Duke gave you will stay with your forever and in time you will be able to feel and think of him without the pain and will smile and rejoice in how he enriched your life. You gave Duke a wonderful home and life, he was very well looked after and cared for and in return he gave you unconditional love. Grief is a process and there is unfortunately no way to speed that up, you are going to feel a range of up and down emotions and that is ok! It’s ok to grieve, it’s ok to be sad, angry, in denial. It’s is a cliche but also true that time will help. In time the pain will not be as raw and gradually day by day and month by month you will start to feel happiness again. I promise. Be kind to yourself Lisa x

This is so true. It’s that old adage of just keep going. One foot in front of the other etc. the grief gets layers of skin over it that numb the acuteness of the pain, leaving behind all the memories.
Grief is something we all have to learn and Amelia is doing it beautifully

As a supporter, I hope you find comfort in knowing that we do not expect you to be okay and we would not be very good supporters if we didn’t understand that. We lost duke also. We have watched him for years along with you. I have cried with you for the last three vlogs also because we love you and duke. Grief does not have a time frame. Take this time to heal properly. Heal at your own pace. We will see you when the time is better and until then, we grieve with you ❤

What more is there in life but to have loved ❤

Enjoy your time off, your such a bubbly girl and a joy to watch. When i lost my auntie who was my best friend i went through hard depression. I leant about stages of grief and then i heard a professional say "do not feed into the negative thoughts". And i stopped doing that by reminding myself that we're all leaving one after the other humans, animals it's not like i was eternal myself!...and i stopped the "what if". 2 years later i lost my grand parents and my father and I'm doing well because i leant how to deal with loss. It's ok to be sad but it is important to be rational in these situations. It comes with time and repetition. You can do it amelia and anybody else who's experiencing grief...you're not alone

Yes take time off. Also, grief changes you wholly as a person. I’ve found that also takes time to grow into those changes. Grief is a growing pain in life. So don’t be hard on yourself or feel the need to push hard into “getting back”. All the broken pieces you’re holding will find their way back into new places.

A quote that resonated for me; your heart will never be the same and while the cracks will never be be sealed you can find joy again. It is like having a broken leg that never fully heals completely and still hurts when the weather gets cold, but you learn to Dance with a limp. Lost my partner five years ago in December still hurts and I am not the same person but I do in fact find joy again in life. I also have a 4 year old golden doodle and he is my reason to get up on those days that still are too difficult. Sending light and love Amelia 💞

Dukey was a beautiful lil soul and U loved him with all Ur heart, for ALL his life. That's all U can do. Let urself be. It's grief. Try and not be so hard to push thru. Just be in it when it comes. Give urself a hug and reassurance. This too shall pass. ❤

Amelia, I think you're doing the right thing taking a break. I lost my pet 3 days after my birthday in August and it took quite a while for me to genuinely smile again - I tried smiling most days, but a genuine one felt different. I cried A LOT and am still sad but have happy times too and can now think of him without crying. It takes time and you'll always miss Duke, but you WILL feel happiness again xx

It was the hardest months of my life: but you must feel truly grateful for having such amazing memories with your 🐶 and you gave so much love care affection until their last breath. Sadly Death is inevitable and that’s the harsh reality of life. You must be strong and rejoice in all the happy memories you have shared .. stay strong Amelia! Feel for u 😢

The ball in the box analogy was accurate for me when I lost my dog.it’s basically explaining that grief is like a big ball inside a box that has a pain button inside. When you first lose someone that ball is often so big that the pain button constantly gets triggered, however over time the ball gets smaller and it hits the pain button less frequently. My dog was put to sleep about 3 years ago and I still cry and get upset sometimes but it’s much less frequent and it feels much less painful. I don’t think it ever goes away completely but you feel much more able to function day to day ❤️

Amelia, I have been a watching your videos for so many years and I have crewed twice when I was watching them. One was when your engagement fell apart and Duke passing…… whenever Duke appear at your video-it put extra smile on my face. I have 7 years old puddle and I am hugging him not and crying at the same time…. And he is licking my tears…. Thinking of you. We never move on from our heart break but we move forward. Sending you lots of love from New York.❤

Amelia love, you will not be crying for years. You will grieve and always have a special place for Duke but you will process and with time move on but never forget. Please don’t think this level of grief will not end. I am a therapist and can tell you this with certainty (and if it doesn’t that is another conversation between you and your therapist/gp and is ok too and also can be addressed). Take time for yourself and take good care. I find that knowing what happens in the cycle of grief is comforting and that the thought that you will never feel better again will create a lot of fear. You are doing all the right things. Big hugs from San Francisco. Xx

Amelia, I understand so deeply what you are going through. I lost my Spike in 2021. It was a similar story to Duke's. He had been sick, more and more vet visits, but his death still felt sudden and far too soon. I cry for him all the time. I can barely say his name without crying. BUTTT I also have a lot of peace because I know that he wasn't meant to live forever. He was here to show me unconditional love and hopefully make me a better person. Wether he left me in 2021 or today or in 10 years the pain would never get easier. So I am grateful for our time together and at peace knowing he had a great life and maybe I will see him again some day :).

Aww sending so much love to help a little with the heartbreak. I've lost a couple of Dogs over the years and it's so hard to let go. My biggest loss to date has been my horse, yes your personal happiness and joy does return but there is always that missing piece. I still can't discuss my horse and it's two years it was such a traumatic loss to me, she was my solemate. We just learn to adjust and move past the void, the emotion comes and goes and occasionally feels fresh and raw but allowing this wave is healthy and normal. You are strong and you do exactly what you need to do to enable your page to turn. xx

Amelia, please don't be so hard on yourself. It is completely normal to feel this way hun. The loss of such a loving animal is extremely difficult and like everything there will be your good days and your bad days. Sometimes you will cry when remembering them and sometimes you will smile and even laugh at the silly little things they used to do. Take comfort in the fact that you gave Duke an incredible and happy life. He was very lucky to have you and your friends and family which loved him very much and he knew that. You will get through this I have no doubt and if you have tot take some time then of course do that, no shame in that at all hun you are human not AI. Take the time to slowly get yourself back. Losing duke will always hurt, sometime more than others but I promise it will get better with time. And hopefully maybe in the future you might give another lucky dog the chance of a full and happy life like you did Duke.

So, I’m sending you loving vibes, so you can enjoy your beautiful life again. 💗

Dear Amelia, I am so sorry about Duke. I know how you are feeling because I recently lost my pet cat. I say recently because I genuinely have blocked the date when it happened. It could be a month since it happened or 4. It hurt really really bad for a few weeks after it happened. But i think I am on the other end of that intense grief. I do still cry but I am also able to mention him in conversations without bursting into tears. I am now able to smile and laugh thinking about the good times. And i tell myself that his life has been cut short because the universe wanted him to have an even better life, that he’s already born somewhere into cat royalty. I want to assure you that it gets better, you will start feeling less and less broken with time. This initial phase will pass and you will start laughing wholeheartedly again without the pain.

Duke was a part of your family as ppl sat our pets are like our children if ur child ,best friend and family passed away suddenly u wouldn't be expected to get over it. If u feel u need the time u should take it but if ur doing it to please others or if talking to the vlog helps then continue to do so. Xoxo
