Still very confused about the Shaw concern, as a United fan I know he can be inconsistent when he's in bad from but right now I have no concerns nor have I ever when he's in an England top - He's solid, contributes to attacks and we have no one better.
The Kane question is ridiculous, if he is playing bad, we have subs but to not start one of our only world class players is crazy.

Agreed with Shaw. I think people are being a bit harsh on him. As far as the fullbacks go I don't think there's been a big difference between any of them. I think the only reason he came off yesterday for Tripps was to give him a rest.
Shaw always makes himself available in space for a simple pass. Something which, in my opinion, is still missing from the English game despite decades of us complaining about not being able to retain possession.

I have head criticism of Kane and I can’t believe it.
Yes, he’s the captain and a striker and his job is to score goals, but people that understand football know, he’s more than that. He can play.
He has a brilliant footballing brain and his passing is on another level.
He will come good and when it matters he will score.
My only concern is he tired but I was pleased that Southgate took him off.
In fact Southgate’s game management and substitutions have been on point.
Similar to Jesus at Arsenal but let's be honest you want GOALS from your main striker. I love Jesus at Arsenal but fully understand why he doesn't start for Brazil.

Harry Kane always starts slow, but I think he really only needs 1 goal to kickstart him.
So far both Harry Kane and Callum Wilson are looking to make the right pass and assist especially for our wingers who cut in.
Southgate has been managing players, I really believe he kept Harry Kane in against USA so that Kane could try to get his 1st goal of the tournament.
Almost all forwards need a goal for their confidence.
It's going to be a tough tournament for England.
France probably will have the hardest route in the knockout phase, followed by England.
I think saka should still start next match. Maybe but rashford on the left over Sterling. But foden or maddison over mount in that cam position. Jude and Rice in the midfield. Shaw, maguire, stones and walker. And pickford in goal but wouldnt mind seeing ramsdale

I think Bellingham playing in that transitional role between the front 3 and the defensive mids is perfect. Even against a very defensive Wales he unlock a lot of doors with his ability. I think that requires have Rice and Hendo or Rice and Phillips behind him (I prefer hendo as he provides a bit more width, intelligence and leadership) but I think that midfield 3 give the perfect balance we need.
Walker played last night like he needs to start the rest of the tournament, did everything so cleanly and countered any potential pace of Dan James. Especially with Trippier not blowing anyone away so far he would slot in perfectly for me, which makes the back 4 and easy selection.
I think Kane, Rashford and Saka are probably the 3 to play as they all bring something different. You get the width and running at Players with Saka, Kane dropping deep to make space and play others through and then Rashford getting inbehind the defensive and looking really powerful. It's a shame Foden to not make the XI but he's the perfect sub if you need someone to get on the ball and create those angles and either play as a 10 or slot in for Saka if he's not getting much success.
I'd rate last night an 8, strong performance against a very defensive team. Could've been better but 2 decent halves more so the second and I'm looking forward to our next game.

This is the best team after the group games. Hendo is a fantastic leader on the pitch - very vocal, g's up his teammates, old school captain. He also allows Bellingham to get forward. Rashford has been good in spurts, but he's better off the bench against tired legs. Saka is a bit more effective in and around the box and in tight areas.
Agreed, I prefer Rashford and Sterling off the bench. Unleash the extra pace later on in the game.
Confused... Luke Shaw has been one of our best players...? He was one a few plus points against USA. Trppier hasnt been great left back or right back when he has played.
The slander against Rashford is disgusting. The guy scored 2 goals and is disrespected because of the chance he missed the first half. This James guy thinks he knows it all. Bias AF.

I’m a fan of trippier but he hasn’t played particularly well this WC. His passing has been off and he’s not contributing much going forward. Can’t see the sense in moving him to LB.

kane not scoring is a tactical issue, he doesnt drop so deep so often at spurs, only when spurs arent getting the ball and having chances, so thats southgates problem, but it also seems like rn kanes role is more creative than a finisher, he’s made the best chances which has allowed the others to score so much

Southgate thinks hes worked it out with playing 3 defenders in midfield to win the ball high up the pitch for the attackers to be able to score from. Why can't we have midfielders that can pass the ball to the strikers instead? because high press won't work against good talented teams, Brazil won't get scared by Hendo running around like a headless chicken.

Someone's got to say it... keep your feet firmly on the ground!! England could have played any combination of players and easily walked through Wales. They were pretty abysmal in every aspect of their game if we're being completely honest. All the praise being given to Foden and Rashford is a little bit OTT considering they did a combined nothing particularly great in the first half and had 25 minutes of genuinely quality play in the second. My biggest concern is with the incoming abuse when this same England team can't break down Senegal in 90 minutes because they have some semblance of quality like the USA had...

Still don't see what Walker adds that Trent or Trips are not much better at. He's a good RCB in this squad but in a back 4 there isn't a spot for him.
The decision to start Foden on the right was a mistake by Southgate. He isnt going to play there later on in the tournament, and his best position is on the left anyway, so why even bother trying it. Foden - Kane - Saka, Jude as the attacking b2b, and we will have so much more creativity than mount sterling.
That guy with the glasses is a friend Of Gareth Southgate, and is definitely knows more about Southgates thinking than meets the eye. Praising Mason Mount?? Also saying Luke Shaw has been average? They can not be more wrong. Mount has been trash, and Shaw has been one the best left backs in the World Cup so far. I feel these guys know Southgate will play trippier as a LB and Mount as a number 10 in KO rounds, so they're praising the players he will pick.

Shaw's not perfect and I would've had Chilwell starting at the Euros last year, but he's consistent and I'd say his place is the one least in doubt rn lol

Basically every England fan know if you play a creative number 10 in Englands midfield Foden with the two pivots behind that England would come alive but he just won't do it. 3 DMs is overkill, I know people call Bellinghams all action which he is but he is not like a Scholes or Gazza or Zidane or something... hes a box to box and doesn't create what a foden or grealish could playing in there.

Phoden is good but I don't think we need to get the tissues out, played well but goal could've been scored by any player in that position, think the lad needs to come on alot before he's starting 11, same with rash 1 gr8 goal, 1 scruffy goal, fair few dropped passes an touches, scrub up an they should both be there as starters but neither seem ready yet IMO

I was raging in the first half. England were going backwards again!, every time they passed it backwards! even when there was space to turn and go forwards. Why didn't we attack like we did in the 2nd half.....why didn't we do that in the first half!
We didn't do it in the first half cause there was no freekick goal to drag us out of a rut. If rashford didn't score the freekick the second half performance would've been the same as the first. No plan just luck

This might be a weird take but I feel Trent and Philips should come in for Walker and Rice, cuz they were able to feed the ball more into the forward players than Walker who was finding it difficult to find a pass....and Rice cuz he likes to dribble forward with the ball and he can't do that cuz he is a sitting 6, when Philips plays he has the passing range to find the channel balls...and when he was on instantly he found two passes for Rashy... ‼️
Rice is the man. Nobody talks about him but you know he's there. He gives extra confidence to the flair players.
