  • Fukuoka is known to have one of Japan's most active night life cultures. Streets filled with street food stalls (yatai) and ramen, operating until all hours of the night. Tonight... we put that legend to the test.

This is so bittersweet because the first thing we were going to do on our cancelled trip was go out in fukuoka at night to the yatai. Thanks for exploring it for us norm!

Always a pleasure to watch your videos on both channels Norm! Caught the end of the Osaka livestream. University student in Victoria British Columbia, Canada, studying Japanese and want to travel to Japan so bad!
    Anyways thanks for everything:)

Loving this one! Fukuoka wasn't originally on the itinerary for my trip ~2 years ago, but we added it at the last minute. Ended up exploring Canal Street on a whim, and the whole city was just so much fun.
    Thanks for bringing me back!

One other part of the city that I enjoyed exploring is Takeshita, the neighborhood around the Asahi beer garden. Wandered around there for a while to work off a nice liquid lunch.

Slowing down a bit on the watch through due to some work and family stuff but you’ve made a wonderful distraction from that. I love that amazing shopping center and the water features!😊

Hi Norm, I love your clips. At the 48.22 min you are looking at the Ferry Terminal. On 25 December 2023 I watched a clarinet (I think) player at the ferry terminal, wonderful performance, have you come across this person in your travels? Does anyone know who it is? I would love to see more of their music. Keep the clips coming. I love Fukuoka at Night and all the street performers.

Fukuoka is the best City in Japan on my trip in Oct. 2024.

  • @JapanMonAmourTheJapanHouse

Fukuoka is a very unusual city, pretty subdued when compared to Tokyo.. Canal city Hakata is quite interesting, the concept of canal city Hakata was brought to life in 1977, it took 19 years to complete and cost $1.4 billion in private funds and involved over 4,000 people. It opened on April 20th 1996. In all its 2.5 million square feet there are two hotels, 21 restaurants a game arcade a musical theatre, multiplex cinema, 170 stores and an office building

Another place I would love to go to. But I feel like it would be better at night. Maybe it's because of the yatai's.

I've partook of the Bunch o' Lunch at that Shakey's at Canal City, first time I had a dessert pizza. It was a smaller location, but good times! Most of my glasses are from the JINS here. I recommend heading out for a SoftBank Hawks baseball game at the Fukuoka PayPay Dome!
Love the yatai, always have to go when I'm in Hakata! ^_^
BTW Boat Tours, jazz dinner tours happen on that river by the yatai, under the bridge.
Yeah, I couldn't stay awake for 4:30 AM PST
Dude, the yatai thinned out! Where did they go?
Momochi beach is pretty cool in the summer. Someone I met there now has a curry restaurant on one of the islands in Kagoshima ken.
Daizaifu is a real good place too!
Close by on the Shinkansen is a TeamLabs Mountain pond exhibit, but when it opens, it's kinda hard to come back, so you gotta get in the first showing and come back to the station to catch the last train back, by taxi! Mifuneyama Rakuen, but it's in Saga
