- Wilko Johnson & Roger Daltrey play Going Back Home and Some Kind of Hero live at the Shepherds Bush Empire in London on 25 February 2014. Review & album/poster links below.
Going Back Home 0:00* Some Kind of Hero 3:38
*Apologies for the wobbles on Going Back Home, all very exciting and quite difficult not to 'dance' with my neighbours!
Both songs are included on Wilko and Roger's new album, 'Going Back Home', due for release on 24 March 2014. Pre-order here and pick up a copy of the totally awesome (old school boxing style) poster for the show for half-price: store.universal-music.co.uk/ic...
This highly anticipated and very special one-off show featured impressive support from The Standard Lamps, and a short set from Wilko and his regular band (Norman Watt-Roy and Dylan Howe), the latter of which included blistering versions of Barbed Wire Blues and (personal favourite) Doctor Dupree. For the 'main event' the band was then joined by Roger Daltrey, Mick Talbot (Merton Parkas, Dexy's Midnight Runners, Style Council etc) on keyboards and the great Steve 'West' Weston on blues harmonica. Opening with title track (and Dr Feelgood classic) Going Back Home, Roger, Wilko & co stormed through pretty much all of the album, including a cover of Bob Dylan's Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window and even throwing in fabulous version of The Who's I Can't Explain for good measure! All in all, a pretty special night.

So sad to hear about the passing of the great Wilko Johnson today aged 75. Remember him this way!
Agree totally. I live in Guernsey, where Wilko has played a few times, but travelled to London for this gig thinking it would the last performance of his I would see. Happily not so !
I don't usually hold with audience shot videos but I'm glad there's a record of this one.
Proper rock that only us old guys can play properly.....Love it. Rock on forever.....

Ten original songs by Wilko and no "paradise"? For shame. Wouldve loved to see Daltrey's interpretation.

wonderful but give me The Pirates every time on this one
Superb! But who is playing the harmonica? I need to know!
It's the amazing Steve 'West' Weston. Check out my video of West Weston's Bluesonics playing 'It's You That Wears The Ring" at the Railway Hotel, Southend. He's awesome!
steve weston bruv.
I cant disagree with you. He is one of the best harmonica player in the world and in my book on the same level as Kim Wilson. I like the fact that he is from Canvey Island and grew up heavily influenced by Dr Feelgood.
I Dont see roger playing it as he normaly would, that guy to his left is > steve weston.
MAXIMUM R&B inglaterra.

Orbital1 esoteric???? , orbital???? beam me up scotty. ??? ok.
Eh, not bad for a bunch of old gits! :) How many of today's X-Factor 'stars' will still be able to pull it off when they're drawing their pensions?
They'll be long forgotten by the time pension time.
John Flynn they'll be long forgotten in 6 months :)
King of the Mods Too right King, this is serious heavy duty rockin
Heavy duty & undiluted, the real deal.
but I'd still choose the pirates if they were all alive! Sad.
Need a bass player guys?
What is your problem with the bassist???? noticed a few derogatory remarks on other videos of Wilko and Daltrey.
Normwatt is fantastic. . perhaps the comment from taff is just a request to join a band?? hope thats all it is. why cant some people not just enjoy the fun and stop trying to pick holes . they enjoyed playing and they would hope and wish most of the audience enjoyed it with them. nothing wrong with enjoyment.
I'd hate it if someone was waving an ipad around in front of me when I was trying to watch a gig. Inconsiderate in the extreme
I know is Roger Daltrey singing and he is about 70 years old,,but it doesn't sound as good as Lee Brilleaux, no even closer...
dont matter shit, just enjoy for what it is. it aint a contest, it aint a competition. its called rocking music for enjoyment. positive pleasure. its not for comparisons. just take it for all that it is. live with it.like it .
Unfortunately Lee Brilleaux is dead. Fortunately Roger Daltrey isn't.
