      Thanks 😊 and I just finished editing the Sennheiser EW300 IEM video haha. It will be out on Tuesday. I don’t know about the XSW, but I believe it’s similar. Spoiler alert: both are great, but I usually recommend sennheiser if you can afford the $200 more 👍 But both are great units

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  Před 2 lety

      I actually just googled the XSW. I hadn’t seen those. Those seem to actually be the competitors to these Shure PSM300. They both have 24mhz of frequencies to find a clear signal. So my guess is the sennheiser makes the most sense because it’s cheaper for the same number of channels. But I’ve never used it so I can’t be 100% positive

      Had sennheiser xsw-iem spent more than an hour to tune the hissing/noisy sound down no luck returned it.and bought psm300/p3ra j13 perfect for Las Vegas. Took me 2 minutes to set up and bingo super happy with it...using Panasonic eneloop 2450 mAh or ikea ladda 2450 mAh both coming from the same factory made in Japan I get more than 7hrs close to 8 hrs make sure battery is from Panasonic factory get the ikea cheaper.

    Great video, thank you! Quick question, I've heard it's best practice to scan for the best frequency at every gig to minimize the like of interference. Do you need to sync the receiver & transmitter everytime after the frequency scan or do they stay connected after the first sync?

It is not clear from the markings - thanks

    • @ScottUhlMusic

      Yeah you can control the panning with stereo wireless controllers. If you set it to mono it will change the volume of what’s plugged into the left or the right.

    Hi Scott, do you know if you need a licence for the particular frequency bandwidth that the psm300 offers? I’m based in the UK if that helps. Or can you use the psm300 for free with no issues?

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  Před 2 lety +1

      All wireless depends on the country. 2.4ghz and 5.8ghz are universally allowed (which can lead to crowding). But usually you can find out which frequencies are allowed in your country. Most of the time you cannot buy ones that are not allowed in your country at the store. So I’m the USA, I cannot buy a wireless above 608mhz from a store or online US store 👍

    I saw a video with Hetfield talking about Metallica using hearing protection and how many bands have downplayed the idea. He never said what he was using in the short video though. Do you know if they use special musician specific earplugs or maybe they use in ears now. I just bought some Alpine Pro plugs and have yet to try them out. I've never used in ears. Does it take away from playing live? Thanks for vids!

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  Před 2 lety

      With in ear monitors you don’t need to have very loud volume because the sound goes directly to your ears instead of having to do the volume wars with the wedges. Especially since you have to have the wedges be louder than the drummer. IEMs are probably the best investment a musician can make in my opinion. It helps save your hearing (assuming you don’t blast your ears haha) and it’s just a better mix over all

  • @seandrummond8861
    @seandrummond8861 Před rokem

    Hi Scott, First of all, thank you for the time you spend doing these videos! For someone like me who is cursed with having to do hours and hours of research just to find a guitar pick I would try, trying to find guitar and IEM wireless systems has been easier to deal with thanks to you.
    That said, I picked up and have been using an Anleon S2 unit I found used locally but recently learned that that system is not good for a full band, bringing me to the Shure PSM300 and Senn G3/G4. Most of the cons on the PSM is the horrible battery life. A lot of people are saying that they can't even get through a 4 hour show with having to swap batts. I also can't decide between the G3 and G4. Depending on the band, the G3 is getting harder to find and I'm not sure if the upgrade from 3 to 4 is worth it...?
    Also, I'm not sure if you've reviewed this IEM, but I picked up a pair of Linsoul KZ AS10 5 driver buds but since I don't know what a good in ear monitor should sound like, i'm not sure if they're decent or not. Curious as to your thoughts on this subject too.
    Thank you again, and so sorry for the lengthy questionaire.

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  Před rokem +1

      PSM300s do survive more than 4 hours. I know that for certain. G3 and G4 are extremely similar. If you get a better deal on the G3 it’s completely fine. They just make G4 now, but both are great 🤘

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  Před 2 lety

      Whatever the threshold level is… setting the threshold to -3db will mean that the limiter will kick in 3db below that point. That’s how I always understood it

    • @ScottUhlMusic

      Yup. An antenna combiner is what you will need. That’s too many antennas piled on top of each other. Or you can move yours from the rack and place it elsewhere on stage with a longer cable. But too many wireless in a rack is definitely a problem 👍

    hi, I'm a complete technophobe and don't understand what the 'group' and 'channel' are for and what settings I should put them on? I just want to plug in and play to hear myself.....not bothered at all about getting a 'mix' of other musicians on stage. Also, given this, should I just stick to 'mono' input and line in? please explain. Thank you again!

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  Před 2 lety +1

      Group and channel just set the frequency. If you are just using one or a few, you don’t really have to worry about it. Just scan for the best channel, sync it, and you’ll be good. Mono is if you want mono or stereo.
      I will say in general to your “technophobe” comment… If you are musician using gear, you should commit to understanding it. With any gear… guitars/wireless/pedals. Not understanding any gear is a recipe for disaster. So I do recommend you learn a bit more about it. Sennheiser EW 300 IEM g4 had more frequencies available, so I prefer the sennheiser over the Shure PSM 300

    Very disappointed with Shure P3T cannot sync up a G20 receiver I just bought brand new to my system. Had 3 other receivers work just fine. Unable to add new receiver to chain

      @@GordyGarris you could just have gotten a bad body pack in that case. Especially if you bought it used. If it’s new, you almost always can return it and get it replaced

      @@ScottUhlMusic Thanks a lot bro, my band rehearse 4 times a week, and it´s incredible tired to use amps, so we start to use Nady IEM, but its a nightmare, a lot of interference, our problem as you can imagen is we are in a low budget, we need a stereo signal and 4 bodypacks, do you think this is the best option for us? I really appreciatte the time you take to answer.
