Thanks so much! I bought this expensive Kaweco S 0.5. I unscrewed the bottom and clicked it upside down until those 3 parts that released the lead opened. That did the trick! 😊

I'd like to add another huge factor in lead dropping out and that's the 'lead protector', also called the sleeve by some folks. It's the metal tube at the tip of the pencil. It's main purpose is to protect the lead but it also grips the lead. When you press the button, the three-piece grabber does the ejecting with each press, but it's the sleeve that provides the friction to hold the lead so it doesn't fall. It can be seen stating at about the 1:20 mark in the video. The 'lead protector' can fail to hold the lead for a couple reasons. Firstly, if your lead is too small it won't create enough friction inside the tube to hold. Also, if the pencil has a lot of use with thicker leads, or colored leads, it can be polished on the inside and again your lead will fall out. Quick fix, remove the 'lead protector' as much as you can, and GENTLY tap it near the center with a heavy flat surface. A hammer would be too heavy, a wooden mallet works well, even the bottom of a coffee cup will do the trick. The idea is to make a gentle pinch in the tube. Then put your pencil back together and get back to work. 🙂
One last thing, if it's a quality writing instrument there's no need to dismantle your pencil, you can have the 'lead protector' replaced by a service center.

You are an absolute legend , removed the metal coating off the pencil , tapped and twisted a little and the lead is gripping again , tysm .

It’s not the first time I had such problem and I was particularly upset, since my pencil was 9€. But it was actually easier than I thought. The instructions were clear and easy to understand, even though English isn’t even my 2nd or 3rd language. Thx!!

I need to correct my previous comment.
Although that did work, it was short-lasting. I have since discovered that the white plastic part that fits into the tip was not properly placed, and therefore did not provide friction to the lead. I turned it slightly and it went in deeper (and tighter) into the tip, and now it stops the lead from sliding freely.

1:44 You say you unlocked the clear tube but you didn't say HOW. Mine did not just apart, and I didn't want to force it. I finally tried using a small hex screwdriver that I gently but firmly pushed straight in to the right side white end. With a little steady light pressure the inner piece released. Maybe you could add a note about that if you don't want to record over again. It's a small but important detail.
And I still am overall very thankful though posted this clip. It was super helpful for me.

I'd also like mention that in the tip or pipe of a mechanical pencil there is usually a small hollow rubber cone-like piece that the lead goes through. It fits snug around the lead and provides extra grip. I don't know what they are called and its hard to find information online, but in older vintage pencils the rubber piece often comes loose and easily falls out.
After a little more research it seems to be called the Lead Retainer.

    Looking for two pen recommendation….
#1 I need a double or triple multi-pen without a pencil +1 that can use ultra fine ink (less then .4) refills. Preferably a metal body or at least something that can handle a physical working environment. No rubber grip.
#2 looking for a metal pen that can take a Pentel Energel or Pilot g2 refill. Clicker preferably. Modification is fine. Nothing from Pilot or Pentel has worked for me.
