I face these kind of problems a lot, Sal and lead breaking as well. Now, using the wooden ones often.
Thanks so much! I bought this expensive Kaweco S 0.5. I unscrewed the bottom and clicked it upside down until those 3 parts that released the lead opened. That did the trick! 😊
Mine can't even open 💀
Yeah
Fr I was like but what if you can't open what do I do
I'd like to add another huge factor in lead dropping out and that's the 'lead protector', also called the sleeve by some folks. It's the metal tube at the tip of the pencil. It's main purpose is to protect the lead but it also grips the lead. When you press the button, the three-piece grabber does the ejecting with each press, but it's the sleeve that provides the friction to hold the lead so it doesn't fall. It can be seen stating at about the 1:20 mark in the video. The 'lead protector' can fail to hold the lead for a couple reasons. Firstly, if your lead is too small it won't create enough friction inside the tube to hold. Also, if the pencil has a lot of use with thicker leads, or colored leads, it can be polished on the inside and again your lead will fall out. Quick fix, remove the 'lead protector' as much as you can, and GENTLY tap it near the center with a heavy flat surface. A hammer would be too heavy, a wooden mallet works well, even the bottom of a coffee cup will do the trick. The idea is to make a gentle pinch in the tube. Then put your pencil back together and get back to work. 🙂
One last thing, if it's a quality writing instrument there's no need to dismantle your pencil, you can have the 'lead protector' replaced by a service center.
You are an absolute legend , removed the metal coating off the pencil , tapped and twisted a little and the lead is gripping again , tysm .
Can u make a video of how i am scared to make mistakes at my graph gear 1000
It’s not the first time I had such problem and I was particularly upset, since my pencil was 9€. But it was actually easier than I thought. The instructions were clear and easy to understand, even though English isn’t even my 2nd or 3rd language. Thx!!
Yes! You saved my beloved green mechanical pencil! I was using .5mm lead instead of .7mm.
Wow I actually got it working again!! Thank you!!!
I need to correct my previous comment.
Although that did work, it was short-lasting. I have since discovered that the white plastic part that fits into the tip was not properly placed, and therefore did not provide friction to the lead. I turned it slightly and it went in deeper (and tighter) into the tip, and now it stops the lead from sliding freely.
OH DAMN! Thank you so much man!
Bro thank you so much, it wasnt the same problem but your guide helped a lot
Good to hear. What was wrong?
Thank you so much. The lead was stuck inside the claw thingy lol
SHOOOOOT i feel so stoopid!!! i just realised i was trying to put .5 lead in .7 pencil!!! ty ty tysmmmmmm
Been there before
Oh my god- I thought my pencil broke. But after seeing ur comment I tried another lead and it worked!!
thank you sm!!! ive been trying to get my pencil to work for so long and this video helped alot
Hi, having tried your suggestions (with no change on my ZEBRA TAP 0.7) I thought the ring was perhaps not moving sufficiently fast.
I lubricated it and... BINGO! The lead no longer falls out.
You saver
Thanks alot
Thank you so much 😊😊😊
In my case the spring came out and when I put it in I am not able to use it properly is there anyway this can be fixed?
The three piece part is called a COLLET! 😇
Thanks. Totally blanked
It's also called a "pencil chuck / Chuck / clutch"
Can i ask why my mechanical pencil breaks the lead inside when im using it or when i use it it sometimes fall out into small cuttings or sum
what if my mechanical pencil can only open the eraser and the crew on. thing where the lead comes out from how do i disassemble it
1:44 You say you unlocked the clear tube but you didn't say HOW. Mine did not just apart, and I didn't want to force it. I finally tried using a small hex screwdriver that I gently but firmly pushed straight in to the right side white end. With a little steady light pressure the inner piece released. Maybe you could add a note about that if you don't want to record over again. It's a small but important detail.
And I still am overall very thankful though posted this clip. It was super helpful for me.
Thanks for the vid, this help me fix my Faber Castell pencil
Glad it helped!
Love @4:18 "...that's what happens when you put 0.5 or 0.3 mm lead inside a 0.7 pencil". Me, oh so I'm a dumb A$$. Didn't realize I had 0.5mm lead as I only have 0.7mm pencils now. LMAO
Thanks bro ❤❤❤😊😊
I'd also like mention that in the tip or pipe of a mechanical pencil there is usually a small hollow rubber cone-like piece that the lead goes through. It fits snug around the lead and provides extra grip. I don't know what they are called and its hard to find information online, but in older vintage pencils the rubber piece often comes loose and easily falls out.
After a little more research it seems to be called the Lead Retainer.
Retainer. Makes sense!
damn, i think thats why my pencil isnt working, do you know anywhere where i can buy this piece?
@@epicolimeo961 same I lost that thing now I can’t use it anymore for 2months😭
Ig this is my case.. how can i fix this ?
@@purplebear_16 Since I don't know anywhere to buy them on their own your best bet is to scrap one from another mechanical pencil. The classic Pentel P205 is affordable, comes in packs and have a lead retainer in the pipe.
goated video the wrong lead size thing saved me
Thanks!
Looking for two pen recommendation….
#1 I need a double or triple multi-pen without a pencil +1 that can use ultra fine ink (less then .4) refills. Preferably a metal body or at least something that can handle a physical working environment. No rubber grip.
#2 looking for a metal pen that can take a Pentel Energel or Pilot g2 refill. Clicker preferably. Modification is fine. Nothing from Pilot or Pentel has worked for me.
Good video bro!
Appreciate it
my problem was that there was lead stuck in a creavix of in the side walls of the tip. that stopped the metal tube thing to not be pushed out, hence not pushing out lead.
i removed the lead and now it works :))
But my mechanical pencil brand is bic 0.9 mm and it did not work for me
Hello sir, my mechanical pencil has a problem like whenever i try to draw, the lead goes inside, pls help 🙏
Usually this happened because the leaders are too short to the clutch isn’t working well.
@@unsharpen oh, thanks for helping :)
Can you review xiaomi mijia pen please?🙏

I was way to rough with it and I broke it completely😭😭
Mine can open of
I used to put a little bit of Vaseline inside the tip
Good tip thanks
I had this happen to my Pentel Orenz Nero, I think little fragments got stuck inside the chuck, you know any solutions that will dissolve pencil lead? Its the only way I can think of fixing it
I’d try shaking it a lot or taking it apart. Anything that dissolved the lead would probably wreck the plastic
5:17 will mine is pushed to far 😃😂😂
Same, were you able to push it back up? I can't:(((
The coil went out
what is this? how you fix lead pencil? what happened to you? i thought you were all about ballpoints? when are you going to review the Sarasa Nano? please come back to the side of good!
Haven’t been able to get a nano yet! Soon though
@@unsharpen ok, that's good to know, sorry about being so harsh but someone had to say something

Yes! You saved my beloved green mechanical pencil! I was using .5mm lead instead of .7mm.
