Sometime Ago - Jazz guitar duet on Vintage Gibson L 5s - Clément Trimouille & Romain Vuillemin

- Hey guys, glad to invite again my friend Clément Trilouille on the channel today ! he brand a cool tune that piannist Sergio Mihanovich composed in the early 1960s. Apparently Jim Hall was on a trip in South America and met Sergio, he liked the tune and took it back with him and recorded in 1963 with the Art Farmer 4tet.
Clément is playing a 1936 Advanced Gibson L-5 (X braced, short scale, 17 inches archtop strung with Thomastik Benson Nickel strings roundwound gauge 12) and i'm playing a 1946 Gibson L-5 (Parallele braced, long scale, 17 inches archtop guitar strung with D'Addario nickel strings roundwound gauge 12). Wonderful! Thank you. It would be a great bonus if somehow you could switch guitars half way through, so you each played a lead and a rhythm part on each guitar. This would better illustrate how the guitars respond to your 2 different attacks/ styles. Just an idea🙏

Good one! I forgot about that tune. I definitely prefer the 1946 .. rounder sound, less truncated.
BTW: if you like early X-braced L-5s, I have a 1936 I'd sell. It's in good shape, with the original case. It's bright and loud, with a somewhat narrow bandwidth.
I'm on this one too, the 1946 sounded better. Brilliant playing though from both of you guys!

I like the guitar you’re playing it had a more mellow sound. The one Clement is playing is a bit more sharp sounding but also very nice. Parallel bracing compared to X?
Exactly, Clement is playing the x braced that is a bit more sharp, and the other has bigger bass and is parallele
Scale length affects string tension so a difference there as well as different strings being used . Also, in those days every Gibson was slightly different than others of the same model
