    Nicely done. I’m going to Florida later this month to pickup an outfit I bought. I’ve been riding for over 50 years. I think it’s time for a sidecar. So, I bought a BMW R100RT with a Velorex 562. Your video was helpful in that it gives me some idea of what to expect. I’m also reading Rod Young’s, “The Sidecar Guide”.

    Thank you, that was really helpful and informative 😀 I'm in the process of setting up my first sidecar on my 2014 Royal Enfield Bullet, so I'm grateful for any advice, cheers!

    I remember in the late 1980s we used to put cotter pins in the front of the saddle bag lid so it wouldn’t fall off on the freeway. What a beautiful thing of beauty you have there.. 🥰👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    Back in the 80’s the Cops of the York Regional Police in the city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada had Harley-Davidson Shovelheads with sidecar units. They used to ride them year around on patrol, pretty cold in the winter about -10 F. I remember seeing 2 young Constables standing on the side of the road on a cloverleaf ramp of the 427 highway in January, they must have been practicing or goofing around but they had flipped their sidecar units on the tight right hand curve. The tow truck was attempting to flip them upright. Sidecar units can be dangerous, they can spin around, hit a curb and flip. Now we’re talking 1400lbs on top of you for the average Harley unit. You just have to go slower, think of it as the opposite of a street bike. They do handle better with some weight in them like a large adult. Turning left is ok, the gravity shifts to the sidecar wheel. Turning right is another story, here’s where you can lift the sidecar up off the ground if you’re going too fast. You have to be cautious on any tight curve, just go the posted speed limit. To hell with anyone behind you, they can wait. Just think of the tortoise and the hare. You are now the tortoise. 🐢
    That said, they go through a lot of rear tires, about every 3000- 5000 miles max. Your centre tread wears out bald as a cue ball. The reason for that is you are now pushing 1400 lbs on that rear tire. I met a guy one time who found a 5”x16” radial car tire for a rear tire. He said he got 85,000 miles on it. The problem with that is you can’t just detach the sidecar and run the bike solo without changing the tire. Fuel mileage is cut by 1/3. Keep an eye on your steering neck bearings on your frame. They usually wear out 30-50 thou miles. I’ve had two sidecar units for the dog to go along and grocery shopping, short runs to major events. One is a 2001 Harley Ultra with a Ultra sidecar which I sold, the other is a 1947 Indian Chief with a 1940 4 cyl Indian sidecar which hooks up to a Chief. Oh what fun, everybody wants a ride in it, and put their gear in it. You can haul tents, sleeping bags, beer……
    What they lack for in speed they make up for in ebullience.💁🏼‍♀️

      just be aware you will likely have to go aftermarket as the TLE sidecars work with the touring frame height/setup

    That’s a great looking outfit. I had a setup like that. They are a lot of fun 🤩. I put a seatbelt in mine with a full weather cover with a hoop over the passenger’s head. When I was learning, I kept veering into the gutter.

    Great Video. Thanks for helping me decide on going sidecar. Thanks also for Narragansett Beach. I haven’t been there since the 60s. I had the scare of my life there. Ii don’t want to bore you. But we learned the undertows are for real.

    I went on my first ride today and the front wheel started wobbling like crazy, and I was going really slowly. I must have set something up wrong?

    • @rhodeisland_roadking
      @rhodeisland_roadking  Před 3 měsíci +1

      There is a lot that goes into setup. Mounting points, lean angles, tire psi, wheel alignment. I'd start with alignment of the whole rig and tire psi.

    Sidecar is too light. It flies way too easy. Even worse 3 up. Got rid of it. Too dangerous.
