- History fascinates me so I thought it would be a interesting idea to compare the history of Mass Effect to the history of our world. This video covers the beginning of the Mass Effect universe up to pre-council.

Citadel was created by reapers, not Protheans. I thought fan such as yourself wouldn't make such mistake. Haha. No big deal tho, even the in-game humans believed that up until Javik told them it is not true. (Vigil said it first, thanks Jordan Beeney for pointing it out)
There is a reason why I am bringing on someone to make Lore videos :). Despite all of the research I do and triple checking, I always miss one thing.
Hehe, of course, everyone misses something sometimes, I didn't blame you for it, just wanted to point it out. Either way, amazing and well composed video!
Snow Thank you!
I thought you were a fan; Vigil told them it was the Reapers, not Javik.
#GetRektByTheTrueFan XD
Jordan Beeney
Well, both of them said it. Vigil only said it first. Javik said something along the lines "They made you think we made it". So yeah. Get rekt "true fan".
Mass Effect universe would make a good tv series. In the right hands of course.
HBO "we'll bang, okay"
itd be game of thrones... boring old cliche story that everyone only watches for the sex.
+Shadow game of thrones is a huge success and it is one of the most popular tv series ever...so mass effect would be a major success by your comparison
Star Lord
yeah itd be a massive success but that doesnt mean its would be good, destiny sold 5 mil copies and made like 300 mil $ but it was a shit game as 95% of the playerbase agrees
+Shadow i don't know much about destiny and i agree that if something is successful it's not necessarily good (just look at justin bieber, one direction, etc.) but i really don't get the hate behind game of thrones since it is really fucking good. i only wish they made a witcher 3 kind of rpg of the show.
i would really like to hear the reasons you dislike got because most of the people that i see complaining are the ones that haven't watched the show at all or have just watch the first episode or just a hald of the first episode. i call it haiting on mainstream things, jumping on bandwagons and being a hipster. i'm not trying to start a fight or anything it's just what i observed.
meanwhile in our universe:
rain
yeah that caught my attention too
apparently, I would guess he is talking about the ice age melting and sea levels rising but I'm not sure.
He's talking about the Abbassia Pluvial - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abbassia_Pluvial
30,000 year long rainstorm is a bit of an overstatement...
the larch
Lol i love how whilst humanity were rubbing rocks together in a cave there was a massive galactic war going on xD
Sounds about right XD
That is what got me excited about making this video
Really puts things in perspective, doesn't it? ;)
where did you find he information on the 30,000 year rainstorm?
Abbassia Pluvial en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abbassia_Pluvial
Ah, the Hammerhead, making the Mako look like a reliable mode of transport.
Come Andromeda it soon will be ;)
I never had a problem with how the mako handles
Mako isn't the problem most of the time, it's the fucking uncharted worlds with almost 90° steep mountains.
+FuciMiNaKule just ride the mountains diagonally I love the uncharted world's and I never have a problems with the mountains. my only problem with the mako is how week the shields were and how long it took for them to regen
I'd be happy to fly the Hammerhead again.
The Citadel was not built by the Protheans.
It was created by the Reapers for the same purpose as Mass Relays. Also the Citadel is a Mass Relay itself.
Soku yeah, but he says it was built by the Protheans in his vid
sebo641
lol i know
chotto chotto idk if there is any lore info on that specifically. We just find out it was built by the Reapers and that every civilization used the Citadel as their central hub
chotto chotto Yeah, it seems weird that they would build a city. But maybe that's what their thralls did, such as the keepers.
When I played ME1 i always thought that those Inusannon statue's on Illos where, Protheans :D
those were inusannon statues?
Same here, then we saw Collectors and Javik.
Yeah, when I saw Collector I got Mind Fuck xD
Romaander originally they were the protheans, but bioware changed all that for me2
and the reapers also had a different reason for harvesting life
Romaander me too
Some of the information regarding Mass Effect's history that you are sharing is not true. The Reapers did not betray the Leviathans. It was the protocol of the Intelligence that caused the Reapers to turn against their creators - to prevent a war between organics and synthetics.
The Mass Relays were not created by the Protheans, they were built by the Reapers. This is the network that they use to travel around the galaxy faster.
The Citadel is also made by the Reapers.
Likewise for the first part of what you just said, the leviathans didn't create the reapers, they created the catalyst to solve the problem of organics and synthetics, the catalysts solution was to betray the leviathans and made the first reapers from the leviathans.
@@PR-xm5zc Same thing, different wording - "the protocol of the intelligence caused the Reapers to turn against their creators" In other words - a loophole
Wan't the citadel made by the reapers ? As a backdoor from Dark Space to kickstart their invasion.
How could you even think to press space while speaking with Sovereign? It's probably the most terrifying and awesome conversation in the whole series!
Dude holy crap I thought I commented that
Even though that doesn't really make sense either as they are able to just fly normal and make it to the milkyway in a little over 2yrs, if they are that close the whole citadel thing seems pointless for immortal beings 2yrs is like a couple minutes, so they just waited for hundreds of years for sovereign to regain control of the citadel...when they could of just legged it in 2yrs
@@PR-xm5zc Vigil explained, The Reapers "don't rush into the unknown" Sovereign's purpose was to check the state of the Galaxy and then send a signal to the Citadel/Keepers to open allowing the Reapers to jump in from dark space outside of the galaxy.
They "legged" it into the Milky Way galaxy, and it is not mentioned how far outside of the galaxy they stayed and "slept", also it would make sense if they were to enter the Milky Way, apart from the Citadel, it would have to be the next closest or appropriate Mass Relay from with to stage their assault...which just happened to be Batarian space.
What do you think of this comparison? I also want to mention that the images I used for the Arthenn and the Thoi'Han are not official images. I couldn't find any images of those two races so I used alien races that were concept. Same goes for some early history images. I couldn't find exact images for what I was talking about but I tried my best.
is the gameplay at the start from the next game ?
wrong, dating human or animals remains isn't carbonated, with carbon has half life of 5000 years, they used other dating systems
Yeah, I really enjoy this idea, hope my first didn't come off rude, but looking forward to the next one
I enjoyed this and I've always enjoyed Lore. Please finish the series
Mitch Nyarady I am going to make a part 2 soon. Hopefully going to be out next week
4:35 Umm... no?
Protheans didn't create the citadel, reapers did long before protheans even existed, this was established even in the first game, it was a huge mass effect relay linking into the dark space where the reapers hid between the cycles.
Thank you! That was bugging me too.
Same thing with the mass relays which he also said was made by protheans.
Some relays were probably made by the Protheans. They would have been long around enough to create some.
@@toomanyaccounts no. Vigil says the protheans only barely started researching mass relay technology before the reapers came
remember red ending shows the relays being repaired and hence if you can rebuild them, then you should be able to build new ones. a miniature mass relay should be way harder to make work then a full size mass relay.
inu-sannon
thats how javik pronounced it anyway
ik its a nitpick but it bugged me
Same dude, but I didn't say anything.
I've always pronounced it: In-u-sai-non. Probably have butchered that multiple times.
being a grammar nazi in youtub comments wow you must have ample time i envy you brother
The "Shang Destiny" was my favorite.
*Dynasty
I thought this would be more alternate history vs real history but I guess Mass Effect doesn't have a lot of that. This did help me visualize when events of the Mass Effect universe took place much better.
The history of Earth is exactly the same as ours up until present day (2016) the Mass Effect universe, there's a reason why present day history references aren't widely mentioned in the ME Codex's.
+aceman67 Plus it's hundreds of years later maybe thousands can't remember
+Omar Alcazar it's about one hundred almost two. Mass effect 1-3 takes place in 2180's
It wasn't that far. What catapulted us was the discovery of Protheon Tech on mars, then the mass relay.
It was only a hundredish years from now. And is also why The aliens are so astonished by humans. By which the raw speed in-which we enriched ourselves compared to the other races.
Plus able to go toe to toe with the Turians. Then expand crazily though the galaxy economy when humans figured out what goods to make either culturally or mechanically that would get aliens to buy them in droves. Some of the minor races got pissed that humans were likely going to get a council seat in less then a hundred years while their race had waited over a 1000 years or more to get on the council.
Great vid. But, as I recall the "intelligence" actually stated that they started collecting genetic material not for the sake of collecting, but because they saw that as the only way to end conflict, which was their main purpose.
exactly
ahhh Mass Effect the only good series of game to rival the lore of Halo.......
Not surprising since the design team has roots in lore that dwarfs Halo.
Try Star Wars on for size, and remember that the same team (before they decided to branch into their own IP) created Knights of the Old Republic based on a deal that they had to either stay within canon on everything -OR- start in a part of the lore's history where the events would have no significant impact on the original trilogy, nor the (then being released) prequel trilogy, nor the many licensed novels already written.
Yeah, these people make lore like no other.
I am sorry, but Mass Effect lore is an anthropocentric nonsence. Like when every planet in the galaxy has the same axial tilt as the Earth.
"Less fortunate regions have not progressed beyond 20th century technology". Are they telling me that Africa and India and what else have not progressed beyond the year 2000 technology in the year 2180?
That somebody can put this on paper is one thing, but that anybody can think this level of writing is good is mind f blowing.
the elder scrolls has very deep and interesting lore, i would bring up the witcher but that's based of a series of 5 full length novels so it doesnt really fit
Halo lore is horrible ME is much better.
+Zo Senjack Lol no.
im still seeing things ive never seen before in mass effect, like that vehicle in the opening
AND IVE NEVER SEEN THE LEVIATHAN EITHER
The Hammerhead, it's in one of Mass Effect 2's DLC.
Memorandom hm, didnt know that
+dragon to kill (linc) firewalker is free but Overlord isn't
+Memorandom lol then i doubt he would of got the argument in the cargo hold with James protesting that the Hammerhead is better then the Mako
Hold on. Hold on. The gameplay in the video. Is this Mass Effect DLC? Or a mod? I don't recall seeing anything like this before.
Mass Effect 2 Overlord DLC
Great video. Always wanted you guys to do something like this!
Did he really just say Xiang destiny 😂😂😂???? Dynasty bro, dynasty.
Nice video, but the citadel wasn't built by the protheans but the reapers. :) Hence massive relay. also the reason why the protheans lost. their capital was also in the citadel and that got qiped out in an instant
That music.... as soon as I hear that music I get such an urge to go back and play through the trilogy, sounds like I'll be starting another run soon :D
One of the best explanations of timing I've seen... nicely done 👏👏👏
You my friend earned a subscriber. Can't wait for part 2
Great video man, thanks!!! also, I'm definitely excited for video 2...
it's the Shang DYNASTY, not destiny...................
He also says nucular instead of nuclear.
Such a cool idea for a video! Keep up the great work! :D
I have been looking for a reliable Mass Effect channel for a while and I think u are it. You've got my subscription, this was fascinating. I wasn't even aware of some of the ancient parts of human history
Thank you for the subscription. Part 2 will come out hopefully next week if I can find the time to do it.
MassEffectFollower No prob bro ^^
Can't wait to see what you got in store for us next!
The Protheans did not make the mass effect relays and the citadel, those were made by the reapers...
The Protheans merely found them like all the cycles before them.
subscribed, awesome video!! can't wait for part 2 :D
I was rewatching this old gem when I realized something. The Krogan reached the nuclear age *19,000 years ago*. If they hadn't screwed themselves over, they could have discovered mass effect technology only a few centuries down the line. And since they have a mass relay in their system, it's highly likely they'd become a intragalatic superpower tens of thousands of years before the asari even left their home system
Just found your channal, and i.m glad i found it! Keep up the good work
Looking forward to part 2.
nice always wanted to see someone do this
Saw both vids and came back to this one to congratulate you on a very well done job!
lol at Samara and the Spaniards, I actually remembered that! :)
awesome vid dude keep up the good work 👍
Fascinating, I never knew about this prior to going in but damn this is a very good informative video!
Thank you!
Love the parallels in this. The asari were discovering the citadel when we were having our first Olympic games. Definitely would like more of this.
Are the photos you presented for the prehistoric races official art, or renders from a fan?
The Abbassia Pluvial wasn't a storm that lasted for 30,000 years. It rained ALOT back then, but it wasn't just one ever-lasting storm.
this is the video ive been looking for!
“Citadel was created by the Protheans”
Everyone, including the Reapers: “And I took that personally”
Wow, that was a lot of work and effort! Great video:
Most of the work was the research. Thanks for the compliments and get ready for Part 2 soon (when I can work on it)
The Thoi’Han look badass.
It seems like the Asari would be further along in my opinion because per ME3 they had direct access to the Prothean Beacon on Thessia (but obviously kept it hidden from the rest of the Galaxy).
Jericho is not the oldest civilization. Gobeklitepe is the oldest. It is a recent discovery though
I said that Jericho is the oldest civilization that is still inhabited. The city of Jericho is still populated. The one you sent me (which good find by the way, didn't know about this one), was abandoned about 10,000 years ago
Probably misheard it then. Sorry
It wasn't abandoned 10 000 years ago, it's older then 10 000 B.C., and had temples before 6 000 B.C., after that it became undeground and they used place on the surface for farming..
Which gives whole new meaning to word "acceleration" (of progress).
If thingls will keep going they were going, we are going to colonize Andromeda in 100 years =)
Jesus Christ we really weren't ready for Spectre status. He barely knew how to walk and they were flying. Awesome video, man 10/10
Mousterian Pluvial, a 20,000 year long period when North Africa saw regular rainfall. Which turned the Sahara Desert into a lush green area.
The Pluvian events blew my mind!
great video! maybe i'm fals but isn't the citadel build by the reapers and not by the protheans but most thought it would be prothean work but in fact it was the mass portal to the orcus nebular fpr the reapers?
No, you are right. That was a mistake I made as a mistype in my script that I didn't review. A BIG MISTAKE I MADE.
I noticed.lol...Great video though.
I know it's a game but when it's put into perspective; Humans were just learning how to create pottery while the other major races were mastering interstellar travel. It's easy to see from a lore perspective why the other races (especially the council) aren't too fond of human ambition, it took them entire eons of existence to get where they are and it only took us a few hundred thousand years to become the next major players on the Galactic stage.
that rainstorm 120.000 years ago, could you write the name down? i dont find anything about a rainstorm then, and cant tell how to spell it from you saying it
LutzDerLurch Abbassia Pluvial.
Russell J
thanks
Thank You!
Kinda wished Bioware would do more with the Pre prothean lore.
Kinda stupid history if you think about it.
If the leviathans were so smart, why did they think the solution to AI, was to create an AI?
So so stupid.
Hey guys, the other species are getting rekt by their own AIs, what should we do about it?
Hey, how about we make an AI to stop that.
Yeah that should work.
Any objections? No, alrighty then.
R.I.P. the leviathans.
Just poor writing/storytelling.
They thought themselves so superior that it wouldn't happen to them.
Hubris. They were gods of the Milky Way. They thought they could do it correctly.
That's because Drew Karpyshyn left the project and writing in Mass Effect 3 has gone out the window completely. What about the reasoning of the Reapers? 'We will kill you because you will create AI and they will kill you, so its better that we do it"!?
This was really interesting! Looking forward to part 2! Do you think you could go past 2016 though and go off the mass effect Lore? That would be interesting! You know, with man discovering the blue prints the the mass relay on Mars ETC?
I might but for now, I just have it planned to line up with our history.
Please make a Part 2 I always wanted to see some one make a video like this!
Good work mate
This is a really cool idea for a video, a few things weren't totally right or were a bit skimmed over, but this whole video would take a fair bit of work, but I look forward to the next episode.
Learning that humans are barely new to interglacial space travel make me wonder if we never found the prothien tech on Mars we would have spearheaded the next galactic civilization
Awesome video, too fan of Mass Effect, subscribed now 😊
4:40 actually the citadel was created by the reapers, not the Protheans :D
Wow man, I ended up here because of ME Legendary Edition, amazing video, congratulations!
Newcomer here. While playing the Citadel DLC, it was cool seeing how the galaxy was expanding even during our earliest days
I had this playing in the background, so when you suddenly said what I thought was "the intelligence created puns" at 1:31 I had to do a rewind. That was funny.
Now I'm just imagining the Leviathans hiding down there becayse they got tired of the Catalyst's constant bad puns.
Can anyone tell me what the song is called from the beginning to 0:50 and then some? It's like the main theme of mass effect 2 but I cant find it on itunes.
Where'd you get all these pictures like of the Thoi'Han? They were never shown in game.
You should have mentioned Göbeklitepe in Turkey which is the oldest known temple structure built around 12,500 BC. Much of it looks similar to Stonhenge but far older.
Pretty good video. Does anyone know the the concept art for the very old races (the ones not seen in game) Is official or is it like fan art or something? I know one of them was used as statues in Illos or something so i know that ones official
What armor is Shepard wearing when he's talking to the leviathan in the video?
Quite right the citadel is reaper Tec and the where the the intelligence has always lived, and as stated every previous cycle is driven to make it their capital, and also a trap laid by the reapers so they can wipe out their leadership, and the citadel is literally a mass relay.
Music in background is OST of Mass Effect: Infiltrator! I love this OST.
BonesFnafGamer CZ Nice catch
MassEffectFollower I played Mass Effect : Infiltrator, I have got Mass Effect trilogy on my PC and I have got Mass Effect 3 figure Commander Shepard LOL.
BonesFnafFan CZ Its also the music in the Galaxy map in Mass Effect 1
Logan Hoehn I remember too, it was main menu OST in mobile game Mass Effect: Infiltrator.
Damn, I really want a prequel Mass Effect about the Leviathans and the Protheans.
nice video it made me think about history thanks
Awesome job!
I love this video, history fascinates me even if its made up lore so having them side by side is amazing. I havent seen many videos like this one, its a great idea!
Thank you. Script for part 2 should be done tomorrow
I don't know if anyone else mentioned it already but from what I remember from the games wasn't the intelligence's goal to find a solution to the organic vs synthetic problem not to save organic life? after all that's the reason the synthesis and harvest options was even viable from it point of view because even if people continued to fight each other so long as everyone was both synthetic and organic it would fill it's prime directive
Organic life was the entire problem , that was the answer of synthetics (the indoctrinated Geth and "Reapers")
Awesome, bro, keep it up
There are some many cool stories in the ME codex and new bulletins. One I
particularly remember is a news bulletin about a planet being
discovered which previously contained a intelligent civilization but was
destroyed by nuclear warfare making it the sixth (or something) planet
discovered in the galaxy on which intelligent life was destroyed by
nuclear warfare. Can't find the entry on wikia anymore though, too bad..
I think it was in either ME 1 or 2... Would like to read it once again
without having to play through all the ME games again, anyone got source
on this?
Awesome job man. :))
Good video, I hope you carry the timeline to joining of the council, because there is some interesting stuff that happened on Earth in between now and that time like the 2nd American civil war
I am going through comparing our actual history to that of Mass Effect. I have been tossing the idea of a "And after that" of events a timeline after the time of 2016, but our new lore video editor might take that over :)
this is the craziest history i've ever seen
I really enjoyed this video... I think it adds a great deal of more insight into the continuity of the lore. I am a Krogan supporter through and through and I am not sure they had nuclear weapons though in 19,000 BC I mean if that was the case, they for sure would have destroyed the reapers single handed by the time they came but then again they did anyway....
I always understood the deal with Leviathans, Reapers, "betrayal" etc. as a kind of literal mided misunderstanding. "Preserve all organic life forever" - as in record EVERYTHING there is to record about it, digitalize it to the last, tiniest bit, up to disintegrating and scanning each specimen; repeat until there is no organic life in the galaxy anymore. After the individual Reapers became self-aware regardless of the Catalyst, they started sort of enjoying it, but still were simply following orders. Kind of like "save all humans" in the Doctor Who episode with the library, realised by uploading their consciousnesses(?) to a virtual reality and getting rid of the bodies.
Humans: I have created fire!
Meanwhile Krogans: I am become death, destroyer of worlds.
What I would like to see is a complete history and evolution of the Asari.
Abbasian pluvial was not a constant rainstorm. If it was Sahara would be underwater for that time. I also think that it's physically impossible to rain non stop for 30k years just like it's impossible not to rain (or snow) for 30k years. Even the most arid place on Earth gets rain every 40 years or so.
How do you spell the name of that 30k year rainstorm?
Abbassia Pluvial
woah how come i've never heard of these giant rainstorms before. thanks for the new knowledge
Out of all the historic events I mentioned, people really seem to latch onto the huge rainstorms
Humans are the Bad Luck Brians of the mass effect saga.
Discovers mass effect space travel, alien races, biotic powers and all things cools
> get the Reaper cycle only three decades after it
It’s nice that Bam Margera is narrating Mass Effect CZcams vids.
I love the archeological lessons. I had no idea first sculptures by humans was almost 50,000 years ago!
4:21 it looks like a blueprint on how to weave
the inusannon look like the ood from dr who.
"... and they create the citadel"
*gets triggert*
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Amazing video :)
where did you find those images of the thoi han and inusannon?? very cool looks like war frame characters lol
The Thoi'Han isn't an official image as we have NO IDEA what they look like. That is a "Concept" I found for a Mass Effect race and used it. The Inusannon is a fan made drawing since I didn't want to use the statue we see on Ilos
oh ok cool good work the images help with the story time line you told
This was Amazing I NEED more ☺
You're missing an untapped market brother. I'm a gamer and I'm high and watching this and it's the best thing in ever. Ever.
This was awesome!
0:29... how do you predict the past?
You're missing the first Human-Prothean interaction Shepard discovered from a Prothean sphere during ME 1, I believe it a Neanderthal they interacted with
wish I could lived forever to make journals of historic activity logs...i really want to learn more about our entire universe and witness all that...and this game is amazing since its close to reality but still sci-fiction
