We moved two years ago, but our former town had a no plow across the road rule. I used to do it, but made sure the winrows were cleaned up and I pushed well off of the road. When they repaved our street, I was talking to the town foreman handling the project. I had noticed they had flattened a large space by adding extra gravel directly across the street from our driveway. He pointed it out to me that they had done it. I commented that I knew I wasn’t really supposed to push across the street. He said, "no, you aren’t, but we keep an eye on those who do. You keep the street clean and push far enough off the road so our highway blades don’t hit your piles. Just thought we’d give you some extra space as a sign of appreciation." So, my extra time making sure I left the road cleaner that it was before I plowed paid off. Might not be the same in other municipalities, but my traditionally hard ass road department recognized my effort.
Same here in Maine but I know the guys that plow and I do allot for them and they don't say anything, plus I keep it clean with nothing that hinders their job or equipment. I will also go down the road a ways to push back banks on another road that they can't do with the big plow and clean the drifts of my road periodically so it don't bother people's driving and they don't have to. They appreciate my efforts and acknowledge that I'm trying to help them, so I hear absolutely no complaints.
If you think about it, Dan, snow on your property is yours. If you push it across the road you are making it someone else's problem. I bought a seven foot bucket and it is way better than a snow pusher. It makes moving snow so much faster and works great in the wood yard.
This is where a front or rear end snowblower would come in super handy...Thanks Mate
Yes Dan even on town roads can't push snow across the road here in NE WI.On my shelter I don't push the snow off anymore. After a couple of days the snow just slides off.I learned the hard way.I just put holes in it.I replaced the covering three times in the past 10yrs.Even my honey bee's are ready for spring.Stay safe, healthy and have fun.
I do it all the time. But I also plow several neighbors driveways and I push their snow across the street with puts it on my property. It all evens out at the end and I clean the street. Neighbors are all happy.
I live in Hampden,Ma, where I work for the Highway Dept. We have a town bylaw for plowing residential driveways across town
roads. $50.00 fine, I don’t think anyone has ever been fined however we have had to use a loader to scrape areas clean after they have frozen into speed bumps. Any time I see it happening while I’m plowing, I ask the driver to please clean it up. Lauren from Ma
In Montana we push snow across the road and sometimes blow snow into the street because the city doesn’t plow them any way
I use a push broom from the inside of my portable shelter or a roof rake from the outside. Yes in Ontario Canada it is illegal to push snow across a public road way. Thankfully spring is almost here!!
We still do it in Michigan just make sure you don't leave any in the road, clean it all up. Some people don't do it and theirs lumps laying in the road.
I like the roof rakes with the plastic slides but I also have a roof rake without the slide and I actually use it for stairs pulling from the top down
Invest in a rear blade. You will love it, save time and be able to maintain your gravel driveway with it. We snow across our road up here in southern Vermont all the time, although I live out in the hills on a very low traffic road. My plow guy does it, I do it when I'm cleaning up and the town could care less.
Same up here in the Minocqua, WI area. People still do it, and I've never heard of anyone receiving a ticket.
I've plowed snow using trucks for a long time, and used our open station Kubota L3600 to move back our banks using its bucket. Last year i bought a pusher for it, and blew my mind how much more efficient it was.
After an 170" season last year, decided to get a new tractor with a cab. After testing some things, we came away with a new 2022 Kioti RX7320, and picked up a 9 ft Hiniker scoop plow to deal with our big snows... which of course we never received this year! 😂 Oh well.
Here in Alaska it’s illegal they won’t bother property owners too much but if they catch a plow truck doing it it will get you a ticket. It might make it easier for someone people to just push across the road but there’s several reason’s not to.
1: people pushed snow across the road and removing any traction sand or gravel. This has put people in the ditch
2: it’s really dangerous when dealing with slush with runoff and refreezing
I just cleaned the last snow for Minnesota last we so you should be done with snow soon!!🤪Thanks for the video😁👍
I carry it across the street with the loader after a big lake effect event. I hate big piles at the end of our drive. The 150acre field across the road is a fine place for it to melt when it warms up.
Yes here in Michigan it is illegal to push snow across any roadway. Yet my neighbor does it. In the 27 years I have not done it.
Same where I live too. (Minnesota) No pushing snow across the street or I’ll be ticketed.
Hey …..
State of NH & Ma same , No plowing across the Road or shoveling snow in the road !!!!!
Keep up the good work 👍
I use those foam heads like the snow Joe commercials on a painters pole inside my shelter. Pushing snow across the road is a common practice in PA
That law is crazy! Glad your bundles are selling good.
It's like that in central New York as well. Most just don't care and do what they want anyways
I couldn't tell you, but if it ever snows here in Florida I will certainly let you know!! 😎
It's a state law that's states it's illegal to push across the road!! Around here by me they don't really enforce it unless you don't clean off the road good or someone complains about it lol!! We got ice with a slight dusting of snow from that storm.....I used a lot of salt and salt/sand mixed!! Bundles are flying off the shelf hahaha!! Stay safe my friend 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
Here in S. E. Ohio it's not illegal to push snow across road but as a retired highway worker I can understand why it should. Nothing more aggravating than a get roads cleaned & cleared but someone will push their snow across road and they will leave a mess in road. Some will clean it up but there's that few that won't. Don't know why it's illegal in wis. but that's a my take on it. Maybe they should do here!!! Lol Dan you have a wonderful evening and see you next time
Up here in the greater Cleveland area. All city’s have ordnance’s against doing that. The trailings across the road create a hazard and nobody wants your snow in their yard.
Yes every place is different on snow removal. In My home town no piles of snow next to walkways or in streets .So have to pile up in the yard area.
Same here north of you about 3 hours. But that never stops some.
same here and also the law is that if you do that and leave snow in the road and it causes an accident you are responsible for all damages resulting from said incident!
Suck it up butter cup, same thing in Canada lol
Here in New Hampshire it's illegal to push snow across the road but people get away with it all winter.
We all have those problems.
Snowplow operators tend to leave wind rows
And it suck driving through them.
You understand.
At the end of my driveway I always push all of the snow to the opposite side of my drive from the direction that the muni snowplow comes from. That way the muni guy pushes very little snow into my drive when he comes by. Actually, he sees what I've done and takes care to move out into the road ever so little so as to dump even less into my driveway. I generally don't even have to redo it after he goes by unless we get dumped on with 8" - 15".
MN says the same thing. Can't push it across. However, there's always a however, or butt, push it all the way into the ditch on the other side, and it's not a problem. It's really meant to prevent people from pushing snow onto a roadway and expecting the city, county, state to clean it up and to prevent people from crashing into it.
i live on a private drive with 4 other houses so we do whatever we want with the snow... the downside is the town doesn't plow our road so it's up to us. 6 of one, half dozen of the other.
Same here in Western NY
A. Not enough snow to worry about. In Central NY, I don't bother with anything less than 4"
B. I use a back blade on my 27 HP Cub Cadet(Mitsubushi) diesel - very efficient
C. Of course it's illegal to plow across the road - should be obvious
Live in Ontario, Canada and you definitely can’t push your snow across the road for safety and liability reasons.
I use to push my snow for years but in my older years I have finally invested in a snow blower, best investment I have ever made.
Gets rid of the snow quickly and no more huge piles of snow that cause drifting later on.
Every municipality in the greater Cleveland, Ohio area has ordnance’s on the books making it illegal to push snow from one property to another. All snow removal must be deposited on the property it was removed from. The trails or tailings can create a road hazard you could technically be liable for if damages are incurred. Plus your neighbors don’t want you snow in their yard/property either.
I'm from Ashtabula it's the same here but they don't inforce it till someone gets hurt
Also, I picked up about 12" from this last storm in cental MN. I'm looking at over 2 feet of snow now. I'll have some videos on snow relocation efforts this weekend.
Same here in mn. If it gets hard it can really mess up a big plow truck
The same law applies here in Maine, although it doesn't seem to be enforced all that often. I am glad that most aren't pushing snow across the road, as all of the ridges from plowing freeze on the road and can cause a lot of serious accidents. Your driveway looks great, and you have lots of space to put your snow... you're one of the lucky ones.
Pushing across the road is ok, don't be a jerk and think a town plow is going to clean up after your pushes.
@@cerberus0413 It;s never ok to push snow across the roads, quite often those ridges left behind freeze on the road and cause accidents. Tractors/snowblowers all have the ability to put snow wherever you want it.
@@jackiegammon2065 Like I said, it is just fine to push across the road. Clean up after your pushes. Talking in absolutes in Maine which is 99% rural makes you sound like a bored HOE busy body.
Yes same in Iowa however it's still done, and no grass clippings on street.
That's the way it is most every where. Safety issue, most people leave some snow on the road. Also town snow plows hit the frozen piles and break equipment.
Vermont state law prohibits plowing across a public road but most towns don't enforce it.
Can't push snow across the road here either for about the last 30 years. They used to have a grader with a wing pushing the banks back a few days after the trucks plowed. Then they put wings on the plow trucks to push the banks back as they plowed. People would push snow out of their driveways across the road and it would be in a pile. When the next snow came, the wing on the plow truck would hit the pile which might have partially melted and re-froze and they would break the wing off. The wings on the trucks aren't as strong and the trucks are going faster. Unless you have a telehandler, you can't push it far enough off the road.
It's illegal in New York also but I'm a believer that if the snow is in my driveway, it's my problem. I don't have the right to move it to someone else's property regardless if it makes my job easier. Been plowing for almost 40 years and have always felt that way. It's a general rule in my life to not make my problem into someone else's.
Same thing here in Labrador. We cam get up to 20ft or more in snowfall some years.
Where I live in Wisconsin u can as long as you clean up the wind rows so as to not cause a traffic accident
Illegal here in Alaskas Mat-Su valley but it’s really only enforced when someone complains or a commercial operator does it. If someone put their snow in my yard I’d be tempted to take my tractor and return it to them.
Back when we lived in Minnesota when snowed I would plow the road in front of our property after plowing the driveway that way the plow trucks wouldn't plow the snow back into our drive. Then we move to a dead end road in Washington State and I plowed the whole road otherwise it didn't get plowed for over a week.
I didn’t know that was a thing. But I’m sure where I’m at there is no regulation against pushing snow across the road. We also never seem to get as much snow as forecasted.
Enjoyed a $1,000 fine 2 years ago clearing a circle between two buildings and I pushed the snow across the street and within 15 minutes I was pulled over in my skid steer on the property I was clearing and handed a ticket for unlawful/ illegal dumping of snow onto another property. Lesson learned 😑
In Maine, I believe you have to be contracted through your town to plow on the streets. That means even something like pushing snow across the street. Sounds silly, but there you go. Has to do with insurance and possibly damaging the road.
It's illegal in Michigan but people do it anyway. Just like in the summer people blow their grass in the road. And it makes the road slippery so motorcycles are always crashing.
We push ours across street...Phillip from Florida.
Same thing in southern newyork state. If you leave tailings on road clean it up! they do not enforce it unless your not cleaning up after your self!
In Southern Illinois, no laws that i am aware of. Maybe if we had snow a lot like 1982, things would be different. We are sending you a new wave of ice and snow your way!
The statute you are referring to is WI statute 346.94(5) which states: Placing injurious substance on highway. No person shall place or cause to be placed upon a highway any foreign substance which is or may be injurious to any vehicle or part thereof. It's not that you can't plow across the road, the problem is that many people leave lines or chunks of snow or ice which can cause accidents especially with the little compact cars many drive around in these days. I've had to deal with this one a number of times when I was a town supervisor. I should add that the other problem is that usually with a snowplow on a pickup they don't get it off the shoulder far enough which causes a problem with wings on the town/county plows.
Shifty got a different truck ! Nice !
Nice new to u truck as well
im in mb. canada its illegal here too, not only does it leave bumps but it also impedes the road clearing . the snow hasnt melted since it started falling in late oct so drifting becomes an issue
at my place south of montreal,it is not illegal but dangerous because of fast cars...even if it's a small road...but it' nice when people leave the road clean after...
We do in Iowa clean up the road rear blade would help you I have a 7ft blade reverse the blade when on grass seems to help not tear up the grass
Dan it is illegal to push snow across the road here too. There are some valid reasons for the law. Many people wouldn't spend the time to make sure they got all the snow off the road leaving piles for vehicles to hit. If the Town plows have already cleaned and salted the roads you will be removing the salt they just put down. If all the ditches were filled with snow they would take longer to melt and probably flooding would occur. Yes it's extra work to keep it on your own property but you have a nice tractor for the chores.
I live in southern New Mexico; no snow except once every ten years or so.
Sup Daniel 👍👍
I have taken a lot of heat for the way I plow in some of my videos. I never plow snow out into the street. It is illegal in Maine and I have never done it because of the liability and it just means I have to spend more time avoiding traffic.
Looks like you will be doing that again tomorrow. Nice truck! Take care.
People by where I used to live would plow there snow out in the road. There were times when when I would go out and shovel after dark back into the middle of their driveway clearing the road back. Took a while. I plow moms driveway with my tractor and I clean the mailbox area and when I'm done there are no spill off left in road
Here in n.w. wisconsin it's no problem we all do it
I don't know but I do just push it across. I have 3 drives to clear on the property. I do come back and push it back on the corners. I also clear the road better than the plow truck does.
Don't know about the legality of pushing snow across the road in Missouri but should be,have seen people do a half assed job pushing snow across the right of way and leave a lot of snow left on pavement if they caused a problem they would be responsible to pay damages they caused. With that little bit of snow in Mo we probably won't mess with it🤷♂️Unless ya needed something to do.
When you push snow across the street into the ditch across from your driveway, its like you are taking your snow problem and giving it to someone else to clean up. The ditches don't need your driveway snow, as it has a hard enough time taking all the snow from the road. Plus your piles of snow in the ditch turn into one big pile of ice that is very hard to move with any equipment. The piles of snow from driveways near the road put there by homeowners accumulate more snow by wind causing snow drifts. Don't push snow across the road.
same in NJ.. no snow in the street
Same here.
In the city, all snow is to be kept on your property, not pushed into the street.
Also, you are required to keep the sidewalk, even though it is not your property legally, clear or you could get a ticket.
Out in rural areas, the same as you, all snow is supposed to stay on private property.
Also, a private company or individual is NOT allowed to plow a government/public street/area.
Illegal here to and good reason for it, unsuspecting vehicles can come by and hit the mounds of snow that roll off the side of plow and knock them off the road in bad visibility or coming over ridge not being able to see the mound.
Farmer did it to me once, he pushed snow from his 300 foot driveway across and went back in to his driveway to get more then I came along over the hill and ridge of snow he left on the road broke my bumper, blew my fog lights out, and shot me off the road into his ditch!
We live so fat from town I can push it anywhere. There is not enough room to push it across the road so I have to push out in the road, down the road And back off the road on the same side.
Dang, thank goodness we don't have laws about snow. If we did I broke the law last year when it snowed here because I took the tractor and pushed that mess across the road.
Never had a problem
I do not do it but I see people doing it here in Maine. We are not allowed to push snow into the road, but across the road as long as there is a place for it is done.
Not sure what the law is here in Northern California but when we plow driveways up here we just push it across the road and then clean up the road we follow the county plow and bust his berm for him so he can just focus on getting the main part of road we live 31 miles from a town right before Lassen National forest
It is illegal in Pennsylvania,,,,however, they will over look it as long as you clean the roadway and not leave a mess.
That law is from the Highway Traffic Act for Ontario. Canada
I do not know of that law here in Pa ! I agree if u don't clean up after yourself it could be a hazard !
It is the same here Minnesota USA
I have been pushing snow across the road for years.
Hi Dan, what size is your tractor shelter? We can't plow snow across the road here in NY either.
I cut a hole in a tennis ball and put it on the end of a stick in order to pop snow of tarp. My brother drilled a hole in a softball and epoxied it to his stick for same deal. Doesn’t have sharp edges
I used my leaf blower to remove snow from my shelter. But I just replaced it with a metal shelter so no worries now.
I enjoyed your video and problem. What is the compact tractor model, it works well?.
In michigan it says it illegal but it also says if it obstructs traffic so to me if it has to go across the road then so be it,there are some driveways literally no where to put it.i push it into the neighbors front yard...never had a complaint but I dont peel grass
ALSO a no go here in Central New York. But it don't stop most people
Here in Petawawa Ontario is is also illegal to push the snow across the road. I know of a guy who is dead against anyone doing this. But: he does not mind drinking and driving. Go figure ! I have a BX 2816 that throws the snow away across the road though. It never touches the road area. When spring arrives so do the bugs. Luckily I can use the BX 2816 on them too.
I have the same thing where I live.
Here n Klamath County, Oregon i could guess it would b illegal but out n the country who really enforces the laws, there is some people who do it anyway
When they do the road, do they push snow into your yard or driveway entrance?
1st question do you own across the road. Snow melts and sometimes floods things. I've dealt with this on my property. Not a fan of mess in spring either, can make my own.
The problem is people leave wind rows and even if you clean them up you still leave a bare street if you don't salt it it turns to Ice so you co.e off that snow covered road and hit that patch of ice then people are wrecking
It is to protect you so you’re not in the road with oncoming traffic and you cannot remove the snow you leave across the road in time if a vehicle is coming and it has killed people here in Wisconsin.
The same in Alberta
It only takes a couple of passes down by the road with the front plow or rear snowblower- the 600 yards to get there and my neighbour’s connected driveway take a lot longer. Would probably be a pain with the bucket though.
I used to move a lot of snow with the bucket. I’ve upgraded to an inverted blower.
It would make his clean up so much easier
The reason most towns states and provinces don't want you plowing across the road is you might cause an accident by getting T-boned by someone texting and driving. And it would be your fault. Have you ever considered installing an orange flasher for when you are plowing close to the road??? Even plowing next to the road can be hairy as hell.
When I had a shelter for my tractor, I used a shop push broom from inside to get the snow off. A little easier on the canvas. Great video as usual.
