If my understanding is correct then this is the wrong way to get the Q1 and Q3 , when there is a decimal like in this case 10.25 .
The correct method in this case should be
1) search for 10.25 in the Cum Freq
2) the closet number to 10.25 is 18 so we take X value of 18 which is 6 , but because there is a decimal what we do is we use the below formula
10th value + decimal ( 11th value - 10 th value )
that is 6 [ because closet value for 10 was 18 and X value for 18 is 6 ] + .25 ( 6 (11th item) - 6 ( 10 th item) since value of 11th Item would also be same as 18th , because 18 is greater than 11 )
therefore
Q1 = 6 + .25 ( 6-6)
= 6 + .25 (0)
= 6 + 0
= 6
Refer to Q3 to see how this formula makes a diffrence
For Q3 the item number we got is 30.75
Q3 = if we look at CF we see we have a value for 30
so using the above method we get
Q3 = 30th item value + .75 ( 30th item - 31st item )
= 8 + .75 ( 10-8 )
= 8 + .75 (2)
= 8+ 1.5
therefore Q3 = 9.5
Note: This method does not apply to Continuous series
