  • How to sculpt a Chinese Pavilion:
Make one of the 6 sides:
    - Frame, piece above the column, and roof support: draw profile with lathe tool. Lower division to 4 (top view is square). Tap on control points to make them sharp. Validate, rotate 45 degrees from the top view.
    - For the frame, project (flip) with rectangle to flatten 2 sides. Elongate.
    - Column and fence - Add cylinder, division 6 for column. Add cube, lower divisions, and adjust control points so that it looks like a plank of wood. Use smaller, thinner cubes for the fence rungs.
    - Roof: Add plane, x division is 8, y division 0. multires x2.
    - first layer: mask top, project (flip) bottom with ellipse. Stretch.
    - second layer: mask every other pair of vertical edges. gizmo down. this makes the arches.
    - third layer: mask every other horizontal line. gizmo move other lines up, down, like a staircase.
    - show all layers - combined effect is the roof.
    Mirroring
    - combine roof, frame, etc. (adjust & place as needed).
    - show the symmetry plane; flip across plane (so that you have columns on left and right sides).
    - set rotation snap to 30; rotate (align corner with plane from bottom view). Mirror flip left to right.
    - rotate, align, and mirror 2 more times until all 6 sides fill in.
    Final touches
    - add lathe for bulb at tip of roof.
    - roof edges: add lathe (similar to method for frame), mirror several times to extrude. Mask and rotate to align with roof edges. Repeat around roof.
    - (optional) 2-layer pavilion, duplicate, scale, place on top. trim.
    - (optional) border patterns, add design with triplanar (see this video: • Sculpt Chinese Border ... ).

something to watch out: Chinese architectures have special support beams called dougong, it is good to study dougong to make sure there are no empty spaces in the roofs

    You’re so good at modelling/sculpting!

every time i use the lathe tool the points never stay in place. they jump around while i am moving them and force other ones to jump around as well. so hard to make a shape with it... I don't know how yours isn't doing that, it seems fine for you... :\

Hm, what exactly are you seeing, do you mean the control points are jumping, or the vertices are jumping?
One thing I can think of is the number of division Y - if it’s too small, there won’t be enough divisions for the vertices to align with the control points one-to-one. Normally, the y division should automatically adjust, but if it doesn’t, it can be changed manually after unchecking constant density
