- No one makes lagers quite like the brewers of Munich, Germany. When the Original Münchner was brewed for the first time at the end of the 19th Century, it was a spectacular success. With its hoppy taste, subtle, light and elegant. It's maintained its popularity to this day. It is currently the best sold Münchner Hellbier (lager beer) in the world and Paulaner's No. 1 export beer in over 30 countries
Interestingly enough, is usually drunk in the shade of a chestnut tree according to ancient German beer legend.

Congrats on your 1 k subscribers milestone guys well done
Merci!!
As I know that you are both great buddies I feel I can say this. Joe is really stepping up to the plate and balancing Alessandro's intimidating expertise ...I would be terrified to go up against Mr A...but Joe is rocking it!!!
His intimidating beer knowledge and good looks make for a formidable drinking partner, there's no doubt.
That beer is a legend!
Such a great lager
Agreed!
Paulaner is by far the best of the Munich breweries.
That doesn't say much for the others then.
Meh I have that only to say about Augustiner. Great beers tho
There's only 6 of them and they are all fairly similar due to various beer "purity laws" that intersect Munich (German, Bavarian and their own self-imposed "Munich Beer Association" rules). Honestly the difference between them is fairly minimal - with the exception of their wheel beers which aren't as uniformly regulated.
Drinking this with you as I watch. Such a classic beer
It really is a classic. Happy to hear you had one along with us! Cheers 🍻
For me Augustiner Hell is #1, and this one comes in as #5 following Weihenstephaner, Muchner Hofbraue , and Hacker_Pschorr as 2, 3, and 4 respectively. But overall, not much separates them in this tight pack of world class beers.
Probably my least favourite of the big six Helles. Saying that still top lager. Available in Tesco over here too 👍🍺🇬🇧 Cheese fellas
Could not agree more Jim. Not my favorite of the 6 Helles offerings either which is why I wound up giving it a score under 4, but still "oozes quality" like I couldn't stop repeating in the video. Top notch lager.
@@ErikToasthead yeah Hofbrau takes some beating
I’m shocked, this Helles is one of the most bready light lagers out there. Also, this is not the beer served at Oktoberfest. Great review though with excellent knowledge about the chestnut trees. Overall very enjoyable to watch but a bit lacking on overall beer knowledge. Keep it up though, great job.
love this.
Watched while drinking a paulandar hell
Yes! We love hearing that. It’s like you joined us in the pub for a paualaner hell.
Great beer, but the Augustiner brewery is my top choice. I've been to Munich twice and been to all of the big six BREWERIES and the Augustiner brew is considered the locals brew. It's off the beaten tourist track unlike hofbrauhaus. Went inside and had a brew tapped straight out of the wood barrel. Cleanest most refreshing beer I've ever had in my life. That barrel tapped brew is my personal 10. Augustiner brewery will always hold the crown for me!
Beer straight out of a barrel sounds incredible. I’ve seen that done at the czechvar brewery as well. Just have been such an amazing beer experience.
Unfortunately I’ve never seen any Augustiner beers available here in Canada, but I’ll keep my eye open now that you’ve mentioned it! Cheers 🍻
@BeerBrackets It's one of the big six breweries allowed to brew beer for oktoberfest in Munich. We have a store in the U.S. called Total Wine and they carry Augustiner beer. Not sure if you have that store in Canada. It's a hard beer to find.
This and Spaten helles are my go to
The Spaten Helles is so good! We’ll definitely be reviewing it this upcoming Oktoberfest season.
Those big Oktoberfest glasses are called Mass. The stone ones are even better on a hot day. If you chill the stone beforehand it will keep your beer great for a long time.
I didn’t know they had stone ones! That’s incredible, I just went down a deep Mass Google rabbit hole. 🐇 🕳
@@BeerBrackets I went to the Oktoberfest homepage and saw that they are just called Oktoberfest Jugs there. I have the one from 2011.
Next Lent I’ll be on a beer-only fast.. in honor of the monks…
My favorite hells lager. Its perfect. Anyone can drink it. I fill my paulaner Stein w 2 500ml cans
A stein of hells sounds like a little slice of heaven
Do the Hefeweizen!!
Thanks for the suggestion! What a classic beer. We’ll definitely get to to asap
Joe dropped his case of lager before filming
🤣
Facts
It shocks me that a variety of Munich German beer there is in the US but not Canada, i drink German beer styles daily
I know, it should be a crime
As a fan of German beers, I just tried a bottle for the first time. Regrettably, it's very average. In fact, I've tasted better lagers that were made in Britain. Not much body, little taste, and enough gas to bloat the stomach after a few mouth-fulls. This is what could be called 'a ladies drink'. It's not even in the same league as beers such as Warsteiner.
HB vs Paulaner ?
Fantastic suggestion!! Cheers my friend 🍻
Do you have Total Wine? They have every beer imaginable. I feel horrible cuz i can get these beers as long as i have money. You can get a 12 pack of Warsteiner pilsner and Dunkel at the grocery store for 12.99 a 12 pack. So a dollar and 10 cents a beer. The myth is true. America is the land of opportunity.
