    Wonderful song! In Germany we call this "Ohrwurm" (Earworm)", which describes the phenomenon of not being able to get a song out of your consciousness for hours or days. Greetings.

    Oh, I'm American, living in the Cape Fear region of North Carolina, so I thought they were saying Cape Fear instead of Cape Clear. Maybe in another version I heard that. One of my favorite shanties!

      I believe they're referring to the officers.
      Here in the Royal Danish Navy, the officers rank insignia is sometimes mockingly called a "pigtail"
